Job 9
1 Then Job answered and said:
तब अय्योब ने और कहा:
2 Of a truth, I know that it is so: For how can man be just before God?
“वस्तुतः मुझे यह मालूम है कि सत्य यही है. किंतु मनुष्य भला परमेश्वर की आंखों में निर्दोष कैसे हो सकता है?
3 If he choose to contend with him, He cannot answer him to one charge of a thousand.
यदि कोई व्यक्ति परमेश्वर से वाद-विवाद करना चाहे, तो वह परमेश्वर को एक हजार में से एक प्रश्न का भी उत्तर नहीं दे सकेगा.
4 He is excellent in wisdom, mighty in strength: Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?
वह तो मन से बुद्धिमान तथा बल के शूर हैं. कौन उनकी हानि किए बिना उनकी उपेक्षा कर सका है?
5 He removeth the mountains, and they know it not; He overturneth them in his anger.
मात्र परमेश्वर ही हैं, जो विचलित कर देते हैं, किसे यह मालूम है कि अपने क्रोध में वह किस रीति से उन्हें पलट देते हैं.
6 He shaketh the earth out of her place, And the pillars thereof tremble.
कौन है जो पृथ्वी को इसके स्थान से हटा देता है, कि इसके आधार-स्तंभ थरथरा जाते हैं.
7 He commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, And he sealeth up the stars.
उसके आदेश पर सूर्य निष्प्रभ हो जाता है, कौन तारों पर अपनी मोहर लगा देता है?
8 He alone spreadeth out the heavens, And walketh upon the high waves of the sea.
कौन अकेले ही आकाशमंडल को फैला देता है, कौन सागर की लहरों को रौंदता चला जाता है;
9 He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the secret chambers of the South.
किसने सप्त ऋषि, मृगशीर्ष, कृतिका तथा दक्षिण नक्षत्रों की स्थापना की है?
10 He doeth great things past finding out, Yea, wonderful things without number.
कौन विलक्षण कार्य करता है? वे कार्य, जो अगम्य, आश्चर्यजनक एवं असंख्य भी हैं.
11 Lo! he goeth by me, but I see him not; He passeth along, but I do not perceive him.
यदि वे मेरे निकट से होकर निकलें, वह दृश्य न होंगे; यदि वह मेरे निकट से होकर निकलें, मुझे उनका बोध भी न होगा.
12 Lo! he seizeth, and who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What doest thou?
यदि वह कुछ छीनना चाहें, कौन उन्हें रोक सकता है? किसमें उनसे यह प्रश्न करने का साहस है, ‘यह क्या कर रहे हैं आप?’
13 God will not turn away his anger; The proud helpers are brought low before him.
परमेश्वर अपने कोप को शांत नहीं करेंगे; उनके नीचे राहाब के सहायक दुबके बैठे हैं.
14 How much less shall I answer him, And choose out words to contend with him?
“मैं उन्हें किस प्रकार उत्तर दे सकता हूं? मैं कैसे उनके लिए दोषी व निर्दोष को पहचानूं?
15 Though I were innocent, I would not answer him; I would cast myself on the mercy of my judge.
क्योंकि यदि मुझे धर्मी व्यक्ति पहचाना भी जाए, तो उत्तर देना मेरे लिए असंभव होगा; मुझे अपने न्याय की कृपा के लिए याचना करनी होगी.
16 Should I call, and he make answer to me, I could not believe that he listened to my voice, —
यदि वे मेरी पुकार सुन लेते हैं, मेरे लिए यह विश्वास करना कठिन होगा, कि वे मेरी पुकार को सुन रहे थे.
17 He who falleth upon me with a tempest, And multiplieth my wounds without cause!
क्योंकि वे तो मुझे तूफान द्वारा घायल करते हैं, तथा अकारण ही मेरे घावों की संख्या में वृद्धि करते हैं.
18 Who will not suffer me to take my breath, But filleth me with bitterness!
वे मुझे श्वास भी न लेने देंगे, वह मुझे कड़वाहट से परिपूर्ण कर देते हैं.
19 If I look to strength, “Lo! here am I!” [[saith he, ]] If to justice, “Who shall summon me to trial?”
यदि यह अधिकार का विषय है, तो परमेश्वर बलशाली हैं! यदि यह न्याय का विषय है, तो कौन उनके सामने ठहर सकता है?
20 Though I were upright, yet must my own mouth condemn me; Though I were innocent, He would prove me perverse.
यद्यपि मैं ईमानदार हूं, मेरे ही शब्द मुझे दोषारोपित करेंगे; यद्यपि मैं दोषहीन हूं, मेरा मुंह मुझे दोषी घोषित करेंगे.
21 Though I were innocent, I would not care for myself; I would despise my life.
“मैं दोषहीन हूं, यह स्वयं मुझे दिखाई नहीं देता; मुझे तो स्वयं से घृणा हो रही है.
22 It is all one; therefore I will affirm, He destroyeth the righteous and the wicked alike.
सभी समान हैं; तब मेरा विचार यह है, ‘वे तो निर्दोष तथा दुर्वृत्त दोनों ही को नष्ट कर देते हैं.’
23 When the scourge bringeth sudden destruction, He laugheth at the sufferings of the innocent.
यदि एकाएक आई विपत्ति महामारी ले आती है, तो परमेश्वर निर्दोषों की निराशा का उपहास करते हैं.
24 The earth is given into the hands of the wicked; He covereth the face of the judges thereof; If it be not He, who is it?
समस्त को दुष्ट के हाथों में सौप दिया गया है, वे अपने न्यायाधीशों के चेहरे को आवृत्त कर देते हैं. अगर वे नहीं हैं, तो वे कौन हैं?
25 My days have been swifter than a courier; They have fled away; they have seen no good.
“मेरे इन दिनों की गति तो धावक से भी तीव्र है; वे उड़े चले जा रहे हैं, इन्होंने बुरा समय ही देखा है.
26 They have gone by like the reed-skiffs; Like the eagle, darting upon his prey.
ये ऐसे निकले जा रहे हैं, कि मानो ये सरकंडों की नौकाएं हों, मानो गरुड़ अपने शिकार पर झपटता है.
27 If I say, I will forget my lamentation, I will change my countenance, and take courage,
यद्यपि मैं कहूं: मैं अपनी शिकायत प्रस्तुत नहीं करूंगा, ‘मैं अपने चेहरे के विषाद को हटाकर उल्लास करूंगा.’
28 Still am I in dread of the multitude of my sorrows; For I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
मेरे समस्त कष्टों ने मुझे भयभीत कर रखा है, मुझे यह मालूम है कि आप मुझे निर्दोष घोषित नहीं करेंगे.
29 I shall be found guilty; Why then should I labor in vain?
मेरी गणना दुर्वृत्तों में हो चुकी है, तो फिर मैं अब व्यर्थ परिश्रम क्यों करूं?
30 If I wash myself in snow, And cleanse my hands with lye,
यदि मैं स्वयं को बर्फ के निर्मल जल से साफ कर लूं, अपने हाथों को साबुन से साफ़ कर लूं,
31 Still wilt thou plunge me into the pit, So that my own clothes will abhor me.
यह सब होने पर भी आप मुझे कब्र में डाल देंगे. मेरे वस्त्र मुझसे घृणा करने लगेंगे.
32 For He is not a man, as I am, that I may contend with him, And that we may go together into judgment;
“परमेश्वर कोई मेरे समान मनुष्य तो नहीं हैं, कि मैं उन्हें वाद-विवाद में सम्मिलित कर लूं, कि मैं उनके साथ न्यायालय में प्रवेश करूं.
33 There is no umpire between us, Who may lay his hand upon us both.
हम दोनों के मध्य कोई भी मध्यस्थ नहीं, कि वह हम दोनों के सिर पर हाथ रखे.
34 Let him take from me his rod, And not dismay me with his terrors,
परमेश्वर ही मुझ पर से अपना नियंत्रण हटा लें, उनका आतंक मुझे भयभीत न करने पाए.
35 Then I will speak, and not be afraid of him: For I am not so at heart.
इसी के बाद मैं उनसे बिना डर के वार्तालाप कर सकूंगा, किंतु स्वयं मैं अपने अंतर में वैसा नहीं हूं.
