Job 9
1 Then Job answered and said:
Hiob antwortete und sprach:
2 Of a truth, I know that it is so: For how can man be just before God?
Ja wohl, ich weiß, daß es so ist, - wie könnte der Mensch je Recht behalten gegen Gott!
3 If he choose to contend with him, He cannot answer him to one charge of a thousand.
Wenn er geruhte, mit ihm zu streiten, - nicht auf eins von Tausend könnt' er ihm erwidern!
4 He is excellent in wisdom, mighty in strength: Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?
Der weisen Sinnes und von gewaltiger Kraft ist - wer hat ihm je getrotzt und blieb unversehrt?
5 He removeth the mountains, and they know it not; He overturneth them in his anger.
Er, der unvermerkt Berge versetzt, indem er sie umstürzt in seinem Grimm;
6 He shaketh the earth out of her place, And the pillars thereof tremble.
der die Erde aufbeben macht von ihrer Stätte, daß ihre Säulen ins Wanken geraten,
7 He commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, And he sealeth up the stars.
der der Sonne verbietet, aufzustrahlen, und die Sterne unter Siegel legt;
8 He alone spreadeth out the heavens, And walketh upon the high waves of the sea.
der den Himmel ausspannt allein und einher schreitet auf den Höhen des Meers,
9 He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the secret chambers of the South.
der den Bären schuf, den Orion und die Pleiaden und die Kammern des Südens;
10 He doeth great things past finding out, Yea, wonderful things without number.
der große Dinge thut, die unerforschlich, und Wunder, die nicht aufzuzählen sind.
11 Lo! he goeth by me, but I see him not; He passeth along, but I do not perceive him.
Fürwahr, er zieht an mir vorüber, aber ich sehe ihn nicht; er schwebt dahin, aber ich gewahre ihn nicht.
12 Lo! he seizeth, and who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What doest thou?
Rafft er hinweg, wer will ihm wehren? Wer darf zu ihm sprechen: “Was thust du da?”
13 God will not turn away his anger; The proud helpers are brought low before him.
Gott wehrt nicht seinem Zorn - krümmten sich doch Rahabs Helfer unter ihm! -
14 How much less shall I answer him, And choose out words to contend with him?
geschweige, daß ich ihm erwidern dürfte, ihm gegenüber meine Worte wählen könnte,
15 Though I were innocent, I would not answer him; I would cast myself on the mercy of my judge.
der ich, auch wenn ich Recht habe, keine Antwort bekomme, zu meinem Widerpart um Gnade flehen muß.
16 Should I call, and he make answer to me, I could not believe that he listened to my voice, —
Wenn ich ihn riefe und er gäbe mir Antwort, so würde ich's doch nicht glauben, daß er mich anhören werde.
17 He who falleth upon me with a tempest, And multiplieth my wounds without cause!
Vielmehr, im Sturmwind würde er mich anschnauben und meine Wunden ohne Ursach' mehren,
18 Who will not suffer me to take my breath, But filleth me with bitterness!
würde mich nimmer aufatmen lassen, sondern mich sättigen mit bitterem Weh.
19 If I look to strength, “Lo! here am I!” [[saith he, ]] If to justice, “Who shall summon me to trial?”
Gilt's Kraft des Starken, so ist er da, aber gilt's den Rechtsweg - “wer darf mich vorfordern?”
20 Though I were upright, yet must my own mouth condemn me; Though I were innocent, He would prove me perverse.
Wär' ich im Recht - mein Mund würde mich verdammen, wäre ich unschuldig - er würde mich zum Betrüger machen!
21 Though I were innocent, I would not care for myself; I would despise my life.
Unschuldig bin ich - was kümmert mich mein Leben! ich verachte mein Dasein!
22 It is all one; therefore I will affirm, He destroyeth the righteous and the wicked alike.
Eins ist es, drum spreche ich's aus: er bringt den Frommen wie den Frevler um!
23 When the scourge bringeth sudden destruction, He laugheth at the sufferings of the innocent.
Wenn die Geißel jählings tötet, so lacht er über die Verzweiflung Unschuldiger.
24 The earth is given into the hands of the wicked; He covereth the face of the judges thereof; If it be not He, who is it?
Die Erde ist in der Frevler Hand gegeben, die Augen ihrer Richter hält er zu: wenn er nicht - wer denn sonst?
25 My days have been swifter than a courier; They have fled away; they have seen no good.
und meine Tage eilten schneller dahin, als ein Läufer, entflohen, ohne Glück geschaut zu haben,
26 They have gone by like the reed-skiffs; Like the eagle, darting upon his prey.
fuhren dahin wie Binsenkähne, wie ein Adler, der auf Beute stößt.
27 If I say, I will forget my lamentation, I will change my countenance, and take courage,
Wenn ich denke: Ich will meinen Jammer vergessen, will meinen Unmut lassen und heiter blicken,
28 Still am I in dread of the multitude of my sorrows; For I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
so schaudre ich vor allen meinen Schmerzen: ich weiß, daß du mich nicht lossprechen wirst.
29 I shall be found guilty; Why then should I labor in vain?
Ich, ich soll schuldig sein, wozu mich da noch vergeblich abmühen?
30 If I wash myself in snow, And cleanse my hands with lye,
Wenn ich mich auch mit Schnee wüsche und meine Hände mit Lauge reinigte,
31 Still wilt thou plunge me into the pit, So that my own clothes will abhor me.
so würdest du mich in den Pfuhl eintauchen, daß meine Kleider vor mir Abscheu hätten.
32 For He is not a man, as I am, that I may contend with him, And that we may go together into judgment;
Denn er ist nicht ein Mensch wie ich, daß ich ihm Antwort geben, daß wir miteinander vor Gericht treten könnten.
33 There is no umpire between us, Who may lay his hand upon us both.
Kein Schiedsmann ist zwischen uns, der auf uns beide seine Hand legen könnte.
34 Let him take from me his rod, And not dismay me with his terrors,
Er nehme seinen Stock von mir hinweg und lasse seinen Schrecken mich nicht ängstigen,
35 Then I will speak, and not be afraid of him: For I am not so at heart.
so will ich reden, ohne ihn zu fürchten, denn so steht es mit meinem Innern nicht!
