Job 8
1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:
Niin vastasi Bildad Suasta ja sanoi:
2 How long wilt thou speak such things? How long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
Kuinka kauvan sinä tahdot näitä puhua? ja sinun suus puheet ovat niinkuin väkevä tuuli?
3 Will God pervert judgment? Or will the Almighty pervert justice?
Väärinkö Jumala tuomitsee, eli rikkooko Kaikkivaltias oikeuden?
4 As thy children sinned against him, He hath given them up to their transgression.
Jos poikas ovat syntiä tehneet hänen edessänsä, niin hän on hyljännyt heitä heidän pahain tekoinsa tähden.
5 But if thou wilt seek early to God, And make thy supplication to the Almighty, —
Mutta jos sinä aikanansa etsit Jumalaa, ja rukoilet Kaikkivaltiasta hartaasti,
6 If thou wilt be pure and upright, Surely he will yet arise for thee, And prosper thy righteous habitation;
Ja jos sinä olet puhdas ja hyvä, niin hän herättää sinun, ja taas tekee rauhalliseksi hurskautes majan.
7 So that thy beginning shall be small, And thy latter end very great.
Ja kussa sinulla oli ennen vähä, pitää tästedes sinulle sangen paljon lisääntymän.
8 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, And mark what hath been searched out by their fathers;
Sillä kysy nyt entisiltä sukukunnilta, ja rupee kysymään heidän isiltänsä.
9 (For we are of yesterday and know nothing, Since our days upon the earth are but a shadow; )
Sillä me olemme niinkuin eilen tulleet, ja emme mitään tiedä: meidän elämämme on niinkuin varjo maan päällä.
10 Will not they instruct thee, and tell thee, And utter words from their understanding?
Heidän pitää opettaman sinua, ja sanoman sinulle, ja tuoman puheensa edes sydämestänsä.
11 “Can the paper-reed grow up without mire? Can the bulrush grow without water?
Kasvaako kaisla, ellei seiso loassa? eli kasvaako ruoho ilman vettä?
12 While it is yet in its greenness, and is not cut down, It withereth before any other herb.
Koska se vielä kukoistaa ennenkuin se niitetään, kuivettuu se ennenkuin heinä korjataan.
13 Such is the fate of all who forget God; So perisheth the hope of the ungodly.
Niin käy kaikkein niiden, jotka Jumalan unhottavat, ja ulkokullattuin toivo katoo.
14 His confidence shall come to nought, And his trust shall prove a spider's web.
Sillä hänen toivonsa tulee tyhjäksi, ja hänen uskalluksensa niinkuin hämähäkin verkko.
15 He shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; He shall lay fast hold on it, but it shall not endure.
Hän luottaa huoneensa päälle, ja ei se pidä seisoman; hän turvaa siihen, ja ei se pidä pysyväinen oleman.
16 He is in full green before the sun, And his branches shoot forth over his garden;
Se viheriöitsee kyllä ennen auringon nousemaa, ja sen heikot oksat kasvavat hänen yrttitarhassansa.
17 His roots are entwined about the heap, And he seeth the place of stones;
Hänen juurensa seisoo paksuna lähteen tykönä, ja huoneet kivien päällä.
18 When he shall be destroyed from his place, It shall deny him, saying, 'I never saw thee.'
Mutta koska hän nielee sen paikastansa, kieltää hän sen, niinkuin ei olis nähnytkään sitä.
19 Lo! such is the joy of his course! And others shall spring up from his place”
Katso, tämä on hänen menonsa riemu; ja toiset taas kasvavat tuhasta.
20 Behold, God will not cast away an upright man; Nor will he help the evil-doers.
Sentähden katso, ei Jumala hyviä hylkää, eikä vahvista pahain kättä,
21 While he filleth thy mouth with laughter, And thy lips with gladness,
Siihen asti että sinun suus naurulla täytetään ja huules riemulla.
22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, And the dwelling-place of the wicked shall come to nought.
Mutta ne jotka sinua vihaavat, pitää häpiään tuleman; ja jumalattomain asuinsia ei pidä pysyväinen oleman.
