Job 5
1 Call now, see if any will answer thee! And to which of the holy ones wilt thou look?
Chama agora; ha alguem que te responda? e para qual dos sanctos te virarás?
2 Verily grief destroyeth the fool, And wrath consumeth the weak man.
Porque a ira destroe o louco; e o zelo mata o tolo.
3 I have seen an impious man taking root, But soon I cursed his habitation.
Bem vi eu o louco lançar raizes; porém logo amaldiçoei a sua habitação.
4 His children are far from safety; They are oppressed at the gate, and there is none to deliver them.
Seus filhos estão longe da salvação; e são despedaçados ás portas, e não ha quem os livre.
5 His harvest the hungry devour, Carrying it even through the thorns; And a snare gapeth after his substance.
A sua sega a devora o faminto, e até d'entre os espinhos a tira; e o salteador traga a sua fazenda.
6 For affliction cometh not from the dust, Nor doth trouble spring up from the ground;
Porque do pó não procede a afflicção, nem da terra brota o trabalho.
7 Behold, man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward.
Mas o homem nasce para o trabalho, como as faiscas das brazas se levantam para voarem.
8 I would look to God, And to God would I commit my cause,
Porém eu buscaria a Deus; e a Elle dirigiria a minha falla.
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable; Yea, marvellous things without number;
Elle faz coisas tão grandiosas, que se não podem esquadrinhar; e tantas maravilhas, que se não podem contar.
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, And sendeth water upon the fields;
Que dá a chuva sobre a terra, e envia aguas sobre os campos,
11 Who placeth the lowly in high places, And restoreth the afflicted to prosperity;
Para pôr aos abatidos n'um logar alto: e para que os enlutados se exaltem na salvação.
12 Who disappointeth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprises;
Elle aniquila as imaginações dos astutos, para que as suas mãos não possam levar coisa alguma a effeito.
13 Who taketh the wise in their own craftiness, And bringeth to nought the counsel of the artful.
Elle apanha os sabios na sua propria astucia; e o conselho dos perversos se precipita.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime; They grope at noon as if it were night.
Elles de dia encontrem as trevas; e ao meio dia andem como de noite, ás apalpadelas.
15 So he saveth the persecuted from their mouth; The oppressed from the hand of the mighty.
Porém ao necessitado livra da espada, e da bocca d'elles, e da mão do forte.
16 So the poor hath hope, And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
Assim ha esperança para o pobre; e a iniquidade tapa a sua bocca.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth; Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Eis que bemaventurado é o homem a quem Deus castiga; pois não desprezes o castigo do Todo-poderoso.
18 For he bruiseth, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Porque elle faz a chaga, e elle mesmo a liga: elle fere, e as suas mãos curam.
19 In six troubles will he deliver thee; Yea, in seven shall no evil touch thee.
Em seis angustias te livrará; e na setima o mal te não tocará.
20 In famine he will redeem thee from death, And in war from the power of the sword.
Na fome te livrará da morte; e na guerra da violencia da espada.
21 Thou shalt be safe from the scourge of the tongue, And shalt not be afraid of destruction, when it cometh.
Do açoite da lingua estarás encoberto; e não temerás a assolação, quando vier.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, And of the wild beasts of the land shalt thou not be afraid.
Da assolação e da fome te rirás, e os animaes da terra não temerás.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; Yea, the beasts of the forest shall be at peace with thee.
Porque até com as pedras do campo terás a tua alliança; e os animaes do campo serão pacificos comtigo.
24 Thou shalt find that thy tent is in peace; Thou shalt visit thy dwelling, and not be disappointed.
E saberás que a tua tenda está em paz; e visitarás a tua habitação, e não falharás.
25 Thou shalt see thy descendants numerous, And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Tambem saberás que se multiplicará a tua semente e a tua posteridade como a herva da terra.
26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in full age, As a shock of corn gathered in its season.
Na velhice virás á sepultura, como se recolhe o feixe de trigo a seu tempo.
27 Lo! this we have searched out; so it is: Hear it, and lay it up in thy mind!
Eis que isto já o havemos inquirido, e assim é; ouve-o, e medita n'isso para teu bem.
