Job 5
1 Call now, see if any will answer thee! And to which of the holy ones wilt thou look?
Zawołajże tedy, jeźli kto jest, coćby odpowiedział? a do któregoż się z świętych obrócisz?
2 Verily grief destroyeth the fool, And wrath consumeth the weak man.
Zaiste głupiego zabija gniew, a prostaka umarza zawiść.
3 I have seen an impious man taking root, But soon I cursed his habitation.
Jam widział głupiego, iż się rozkorzenił; alem wnet źle tuszył mieszkaniu jego.
4 His children are far from safety; They are oppressed at the gate, and there is none to deliver them.
Oddaleni będą synowie jego od zbawienia, i starci będą w bramie, a nie będzie, ktoby ich wyrwał.
5 His harvest the hungry devour, Carrying it even through the thorns; And a snare gapeth after his substance.
Żniwo jego głodny pożre, i z samego ciernia wybierze je; a połknie chciwy bogactwa takowych.
6 For affliction cometh not from the dust, Nor doth trouble spring up from the ground;
Albowiem nie z prochu wychodzi utrapienie, ani z ziemi wyrasta kłopot.
7 Behold, man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward.
Ale człowiek na kłopot się rodzi jako iskry z węgla latają w górę.
8 I would look to God, And to God would I commit my cause,
Zaiste jabym szukał Boga, Bogubym przełożył sprawę swoję;
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable; Yea, marvellous things without number;
Który czyni rzeczy wielkie i niewybadane, dziwne, którym liczby niemasz;
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, And sendeth water upon the fields;
Który daje deszcz na ziemię, i spuszcza wody na pola;
11 Who placeth the lowly in high places, And restoreth the afflicted to prosperity;
Który sadza pokornych wysoko, a smutnych wywyższa ku zbawieniu;
12 Who disappointeth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprises;
Który w niwecz obraca myśli chytrych, tak, iż ręce ich nie sprawią nic skutecznego;
13 Who taketh the wise in their own craftiness, And bringeth to nought the counsel of the artful.
Który chwyta mądrych w chytrości ich, a radę przewrotnych prędko niszczy.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime; They grope at noon as if it were night.
We dnie taczają się jako w ciemnościach, a jako w nocy macają w południe.
15 So he saveth the persecuted from their mouth; The oppressed from the hand of the mighty.
Który zachowuje ubogiego od miecza, od ust ich, i od ręki gwałtownika.
16 So the poor hath hope, And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
Mać uciśniony nadzieje; ale nieprawość stuli usta swe.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth; Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Oto błogosławiony człowiek, którego Bóg karze; przetoż karaniem Wszechmocnego nie pogardzaj,
18 For he bruiseth, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Bo on zrania i zawiązuje; uderza, a ręce jego uzdrawiają.
19 In six troubles will he deliver thee; Yea, in seven shall no evil touch thee.
Z sześciu ucisków wyrwie cię, a w siódmym nie tknie się ciebie złe.
20 In famine he will redeem thee from death, And in war from the power of the sword.
W głodzie wybawi cię od śmierci, a na wojnie z rąk miecza.
21 Thou shalt be safe from the scourge of the tongue, And shalt not be afraid of destruction, when it cometh.
Przed biczem języka ukryty będziesz, a nie ulękniesz się w spustoszeniu, gdy przyjdzie.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, And of the wild beasts of the land shalt thou not be afraid.
W spustoszeniu i w głodzie śmiać się będziesz, a zwierząt ziemskich bać się nie będziesz.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; Yea, the beasts of the forest shall be at peace with thee.
Bo z kamieniem polnym będzie przymierze twoje, a okrutny zwierz polny spokojnym ci się stawi.
24 Thou shalt find that thy tent is in peace; Thou shalt visit thy dwelling, and not be disappointed.
I poznasz, że jest spokojny przybytek twój, i nawiedzisz mieszkanie twoje, a nie zgrzeszysz.
25 Thou shalt see thy descendants numerous, And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Doznasz też, iż rozmnożone będzie nasienie twoje, a potomstwo twoje będzie jako ziele ziemi.
26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in full age, As a shock of corn gathered in its season.
Wnijdziesz w sędziwości do grobu, jako znoszone bywa zboże w stóg czasu swego.
27 Lo! this we have searched out; so it is: Hear it, and lay it up in thy mind!
Otośmy tego doszli, że tak jest: słuchajże tego, a uważaj to sam u siebie.
