Job 5
1 Call now, see if any will answer thee! And to which of the holy ones wilt thou look?
Appelle donc, s’il y a quelqu’un qui te réponde, et tourne-toi vers quelqu’un des saints.
2 Verily grief destroyeth the fool, And wrath consumeth the weak man.
Certes, le courroux tue l’insensé, et l’envie fait mourir le jeune enfant.
3 I have seen an impious man taking root, But soon I cursed his habitation.
Moi, j’ai vu l’insensé avec une forte racine, et j’ai maudit sa beauté aussitôt.
4 His children are far from safety; They are oppressed at the gate, and there is none to deliver them.
Ses fils se trouveront loin du salut, et ils seront brisés à la porte, et il n’y aura personne qui les délivre.
5 His harvest the hungry devour, Carrying it even through the thorns; And a snare gapeth after his substance.
Le famélique mangera sa moisson: l’homme armé le ravira lui-même, et ceux qui ont soif boiront ses richesses.
6 For affliction cometh not from the dust, Nor doth trouble spring up from the ground;
Rien sur la terre ne se fait sans cause, et ce n’est pas du sol que provient la douleur.
7 Behold, man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward.
L’homme naît pour le travail, et l’oiseau pour voler.
8 I would look to God, And to God would I commit my cause,
C’est pourquoi je prierai le Seigneur, et c’est à Dieu que j’adresserai ma parole,
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable; Yea, marvellous things without number;
Lui qui fait des choses grandes, impénétrables et admirables, sans nombre;
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, And sendeth water upon the fields;
Qui donne de la pluie sur la face de la terre, et arrose d’eaux tous les lieux;
11 Who placeth the lowly in high places, And restoreth the afflicted to prosperity;
Qui élève les humbles, ranime ceux qui sont abattus en les protégeant;
12 Who disappointeth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprises;
Qui dissipe les pensées des méchants, afin que leurs mains ne puissent accomplir ce qu’elles avaient commencé;
13 Who taketh the wise in their own craftiness, And bringeth to nought the counsel of the artful.
Qui surprend les sages dans leur finesse, et dissipe le conseil des pervers.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime; They grope at noon as if it were night.
Dans le jour ils rencontreront des ténèbres, et comme dans la nuit, ainsi ils tâtonneront à midi.
15 So he saveth the persecuted from their mouth; The oppressed from the hand of the mighty.
Mais Dieu sauvera l’indigent du glaive de leur bouche, et le pauvre de la main du violent.
16 So the poor hath hope, And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
Et il y aura de l’espérance pour l’indigent, mais l’iniquité contractera sa bouche.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth; Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Heureux l’homme qui est corrigé par Dieu! ne repousse donc pas le châtiment du Seigneur,
18 For he bruiseth, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Parce que lui-même blesse, et il donne le remède; il frappe, et ses mains guériront.
19 In six troubles will he deliver thee; Yea, in seven shall no evil touch thee.
Dans six tribulations il te délivrera, et, à la septième, le mal ne te touchera pas.
20 In famine he will redeem thee from death, And in war from the power of the sword.
Dans la famine, il te sauvera de la mort, et à la guerre, de la main du glaive.
21 Thou shalt be safe from the scourge of the tongue, And shalt not be afraid of destruction, when it cometh.
Tu seras mis à couvert du fouet de la langue, et tu ne craindras pas la calamité lorsqu’elle viendra.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, And of the wild beasts of the land shalt thou not be afraid.
Dans la désolation et la faim tu riras, et tu ne redouteras pas les bêtes de la terre.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; Yea, the beasts of the forest shall be at peace with thee.
Il y aura même un accord entre toi et les pierres des champs; et les bêtes de la terre seront pacifiques pour loi.
24 Thou shalt find that thy tent is in peace; Thou shalt visit thy dwelling, and not be disappointed.
Et tu verras que ton tabernacle aura la paix; et, visitant ta beauté, tu ne pécheras pas.
25 Thou shalt see thy descendants numerous, And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Tu verras aussi que ta race se multipliera, et ta postérité croîtra comme l’herbe de la terre.
26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in full age, As a shock of corn gathered in its season.
Tu entreras dans l’abondance au sépulcre, comme un monceau de blé qui est rentré en son temps.
27 Lo! this we have searched out; so it is: Hear it, and lay it up in thy mind!
Vois, ceci est comme nous l’avons observé: ce que tu as entendu, repasse-le en ton esprit.
