Job 35

1 Moreover Elihu proceeded, and said:

ויען אליהו ויאמר

2 Dost thou then think this to be right? Thou hast said, “I am more righteous than God.”

הזאת חשבת למשפט אמרת צדקי מאל

3 For thou askest, “What advantage have I? What have I gained, more than if I had sinned?”

כי-תאמר מה-יסכן-לך מה-אעיל מחטאתי

4 I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.

אני אשיבך מלין-- ואת-רעיך עמך

5 Look up to the heavens, and see! And behold the clouds, which are high above thee!

הבט שמים וראה ושור שחקים גבהו ממך

6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against Him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou to him?

אם-חטאת מה-תפעל-בו ורבו פשעיך מה-תעשה-לו

7 If thou art righteous, what dost thou give him? Or what receiveth he at thy hand?

אם-צדקת מה-תתן-לו או מה-מידך יקח

8 Thy wickedness injureth only a man like thyself, And thy righteousness profiteth only a son of man.

לאיש-כמוך רשעך ולבן-אדם צדקתך

9 The oppressed cry out on account of the multitude of wrongs; They cry aloud on account of the arm of the mighty.

מרב עשוקים יזעיקו ישועו מזרוע רבים

10 But none saith, “Where is God, my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;

ולא-אמר--איה אלוה עשי נתן זמרות בלילה

11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of heaven?”

מלפנו מבהמות ארץ ומעוף השמים יחכמנו

12 There they cry aloud on account of the pride of the wicked; But he giveth no answer.

שם יצעקו ולא יענה-- מפני גאון רעים

13 For God will not hear the vain supplication, Nor will the Almighty regard it;

אך-שוא לא-ישמע אל ושדי לא ישורנה

14 Much less when thou sayest thou canst not see him: Justice is with him, —only wait thou for him!

אף כי-תאמר לא תשורנו דין לפניו ותחולל לו

15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Nor taken strict note of transgression,

ועתה--כי-אין פקד אפו ולא-ידע בפש מאד

16 Therefore hath Job opened his mouth rashly, And multiplied words without knowledge.

ואיוב הבל יפצה-פיהו בבלי-דעת מלין יכבר
