Job 31

1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; How then could I gaze upon a maid?

۱ «با چشمان خود عهد بسته‌ام، پس چگونه بر دوشیزه‌ای نظر افکنم؟

2 For what is the portion appointed by God from above, And the inheritance allotted by the Almighty from on high?

۲ زیراقسمت خدا از اعلی چیست؟ و نصیب قادرمطلق، از اعلی علیین؟

3 Is not destruction for the wicked, And ruin for the workers of iniquity?

۳ آیا آن برای شریران هلاکت نیست؟ و به جهت عاملان بدی مصیبت نی؟

4 Doth He not see my ways, And number all my steps?

۴ آیا او راههای مرا نمی بیند؟ و جمیع قدمهایم را نمی شمارد؟

5 If I have walked with falsehood, And if my foot hath hasted to deceit,

۵ اگر با دروغ راه می‌رفتم یا پایهایم با فریب می‌شتابید،

6 Let him weigh me in an even balance; Yea, let God know my integrity!

۶ مرا به میزان عدالت بسنجد، تا خدا کاملیت مرا بداند.

7 If my steps have turned aside from the way, And my heart gone after mine eyes, Or if any stain hath cleaved to my hand,

۷ اگرقدمهایم از طریق آواره گردیده، و قلبم در‌پی چشمانم رفته، و لکه‌ای به‌دستهایم چسبیده باشد،

8 Then I may sow, and another eat; And what I plant, may it be rooted up!

۸ پس من کشت کنم و دیگری بخورد، ومحصول من از ریشه‌کنده شود.

9 If my heart hath been enticed by a woman, Or if I have watched at my neighbor's door,

۹ اگر قلبم به زنی فریفته شده، یا نزد در همسایه خود در کمین نشسته باشم،

10 Then let my wife grind for another, And let other men lie with her!

۱۰ پس زن من برای شخصی دیگرآسیا کند، و دیگران بر او خم شوند.

11 For this were a heinous crime, Even a transgression to be punished by the judges;

۱۱ زیرا که آن قباحت می‌بود و تقصیری سزاوار حکم داوران.

12 Yea, it were a fire that would consume to destruction, And root out all my increase.

۱۲ چونکه این آتشی می‌بود که تا ابدون می‌سوزانید، و تمامی محصول مرا از ریشه می‌کند.

13 If I have refused justice to my man-servant or maid-servant, When they had a controversy with me,

۱۳ اگر دعوی بنده و کنیز خود را ردمی کردم، هنگامی که بر من مدعی می‌شدند.

14 Then what shall I do when God riseth up? And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

۱۴ پس چون خدا به ضد من برخیزد چه خواهم کرد؟ و هنگامی که تفتیش نماید به او چه جواب خواهم داد؟

15 Did not He that made me in the womb make him? Did not one fashion us in the womb?

۱۵ آیا آن کس که مرا در رحم آفریداو را نیز نیافرید؟ و آیا کس واحد، ما را در رحم نسرشت؟

16 If I have refused the poor their desire, And caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

۱۶ «اگر مراد مسکینان را از ایشان منع نموده باشم، و چشمان بیوه‌زنان را تار گردانیده،

17 If I have eaten my morsel alone, And the fatherless hath not partaken of it;

۱۷ اگرلقمه خود را به تنهایی خورده باشم، و یتیم از آن تناول ننموده،

18 (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And I have helped the widow from my mother's womb; )

۱۸ و حال آنکه او از جوانیم با من مثل پدر پرورش می‌یافت، و از بطن مادرم بیوه‌زن را رهبری می‌نمودم.

19 If I have seen any one perishing for want of clothing, Or any poor man without covering;

۱۹ اگر کسی را از برهنگی هلاک دیده باشم، و مسکین را بدون پوشش،

20 If his loins have not blessed me, And he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

۲۰ اگر کمرهای او مرا برکت نداده باشد، و از پشم گوسفندان من گرم نشده،

21 If I have shaken my hand against the fatherless, Because I saw my help in the gate, —

۲۱ اگر دست خود را بر یتیم بلند کرده باشم، هنگامی که اعانت خود را دردروازه می‌دیدم،

22 Then may my shoulder fill from its blade, And my fore-arm be broken from its bone!

۲۲ پس بازوی من از کتفم بیفتد، و ساعدم از قلم آن شکسته شود.

23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, And before his majesty I could do nothing.

۲۳ زیرا که هلاکت از خدا برای من ترس می‌بود و به‌سبب کبریایی او توانایی نداشتم.

24 If I have made gold my trust, Or said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

۲۴ اگر طلا را امیدخود می‌ساختم و به زر خالص می‌گفتم تو اعتمادمن هستی،

25 If I have rejoiced, because my wealth was great, And my hand had found abundance;

۲۵ اگر از فراوانی دولت خویش شادی می‌نمودم، و از اینکه دست من بسیار کسب نموده بود،

26 If I have beheld the sun in his splendor, Or the moon advancing in brightness,

۲۶ اگر چون آفتاب می‌تابید بر آن نظرمی کردم و بر ماه، هنگامی که با درخشندگی سیرمی کرد.

27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, And my mouth hath kissed my hand,

۲۷ و دل من خفیه فریفته می‌شد و دهانم دستم را می‌بوسید.

28 This also were a crime to be punished by the judge; For I should have denied the God who is above.

۲۸ این نیز گناهی مستوجب قصاص می‌بود زیرا خدای متعال را منکرمی شدم.

29 If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, And exulted when evil came upon him;

۲۹ اگر از مصیبت دشمن خود شادی می‌کردم یا حینی که بلا به او عارض می‌شد وجدمی نمودم،

30 (Nay, I have not suffered my mouth to sin, By asking with curses his life; )

۳۰ و حال آنکه زبان خود را از گناه ورزیدن بازداشته، بر جان او لعنت را سوال ننمودم.

31 If the men of my tent have not exclaimed, “Who is there that hath not been satisfied with his meat?”

۳۱ اگر اهل خیمه من نمی گفتند: کیست که از گوشت او سیر نشده باشد،

32 The stranger did not lodge in the street; I opened my doors to the traveller.

۳۲ غریب درکوچه شب را به‌سر نمی برد و در خود را به روی مسافر می‌گشودم.

33 Have I, after the manner of men, hidden my transgression, Concealing my iniquity in my bosom,

۳۳ اگر مثل آدم، تقصیر خود رامی پوشانیدم و عصیان خویش را در سینه خودمخفی می‌ساختم،

34 Then let me be confounded before the great multitude! Let the contempt of families cover me with shame! Yea, let me keep silence! let me never appear abroad!

۳۴ از این جهت که از انبوه کثیرمی ترسیدم و اهانت قبایل مرا هراسان می‌ساخت، پس ساکت مانده، از در خود بیرون نمی رفتم.

35 O that there were one who would hear me! Behold my signature! let the Almighty answer me. And let mine adversary write down his charge!

۳۵ کاش کسی بود که مرا می‌شنید، اینک امضای من حاضر است. پس قادر مطلق مرا جواب دهد. و اینک کتابتی که مدعی من نوشته است.

36 Truly I would wear it upon my shoulder; I would bind it upon me as a crown.

۳۶ یقین که آن را بر دوش خود برمی داشتم و مثل تاج برخود می‌بستم.

37 I would disclose to him all my steps; I would approach him like a prince.

۳۷ شماره قدمهای خود را برای اوبیان می‌کردم و مثل امیری به او تقرب می‌جستم.

38 If my land cry out against me, And its furrows bewail together;

۳۸ اگر زمین من بر من فریاد می‌کرد و مرزهایش با هم گریه می‌کردند،

39 If I have eaten of its fruits without payment, And wrung out the life of its owners,

۳۹ اگر محصولاتش را بدون قیمت می‌خوردم و جان مالکانش را تلف می‌نمودم،

40 Let thorns grow up instead of wheat, And noxious weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

۴۰ پس خارها به عوض گندم وکرکاس به عوض جو بروید.» سخنان ایوب تمام شد.
