Job 29

1 Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:

ایوب به سخنان خود ادامه داده، گفت:

2 O that I were as in months past, In the days when God was my guardian;

ای کاش روزهای گذشته بازمی‌گشت، روزهایی که خدا، نگهدار من بود

3 When his lamp shined over my head, And when by his light I walked through darkness!

و راهی را که در پیش داشتم روشن می‌ساخت و من با نور او در دل تاریکی قدم برمی‌داشتم!

4 As I was in the autumn of my days, When the friendship of God was over my tent;

بله، در آن روزها کامران بودم و زیر سایهٔ خدا زندگی می‌کردم.

5 When the Almighty was yet with me, And my children were around me;

خدای قادر مطلق همراه من بود و فرزندانم در اطراف من بودند.

6 When I bathed my steps in milk, And the rock poured me out rivers of oil!

من پاهای خود را با شیر می‌شستم و از صخره‌ها برای من چشمه‌های روغن زیتون جاری می‌شد!

7 When I went forth to the gate by the city, And took my seat in the market-place,

در آن روزها به دروازهٔ شهر می‌رفتم و در میان بزرگان می‌نشستم.

8 The young men saw me and hid themselves, And the aged arose and stood.

جوانان با دیدن من با احترام کنار می‌رفتند، پیران از جا برمی‌خاستند،

9 The princes refrained from speaking, And laid their hand upon their mouth.

ریش‌سفیدان قوم خاموش شده، دست بر دهان خود می‌گذاشتند

10 The nobles held their peace, And their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

و بزرگان سکوت اختیار می‌کردند.

11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; And when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me.

هر که مرا می‌دید و حرفهایم را می‌شنید از من تعریف و تمجید می‌کرد؛

12 For I delivered the poor, when they cried; And the fatherless, who had none to help him.

زیرا من به داد فقرا می‌رسیدم و یتیمانی را که یار و یاور نداشتند کمک می‌کردم.

13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, And I caused the heart of the widow to sing for joy.

کسانی را که دم مرگ بودند یاری می‌دادم و ایشان برایم دعای خیر می‌کردند و کاری می‌کردم که دل بیوه‌زنان شاد شود.

14 I clothed myself with righteousness, and it clothed itself with me; And justice was my robe and diadem.

هر کاری که انجام می‌دادم از روی عدل و انصاف بود؛ عدالت جامه من بود و انصاف تاج من.

15 I was eyes to the blind, And feet was I to the lame;

برای کورها چشم و برای لنگان پا بودم؛

16 I was a father to the poor, And the cause of him I knew not I searched out;

برای فقرا پدر بودم و از حق غریبه‌ها دفاع می‌کردم.

17 And I broke the teeth of the wicked, And plucked the spoil from his jaws.

دندانهای ستمگران را می‌شکستم و شکار را از دهانشان می‌گرفتم.

18 Then said I, “I shall die in my nest; I shall multiply my days as the sand.

در آن روزها فکر می‌کردم که حتماً پس از یک زندگی خوش طولانی به آرامی در جمع خانوادۀ خود خواهم مرد.

19 My root is spread abroad to the waters, And the dew abideth on my branches.

زیرا مانند درختی بودم که ریشه‌هایش به آب می‌رسید و شاخه‌هایش از شبنم سیراب می‌شد.

20 My glory is fresh with me, And my bow gathereth strength in my hand.”

پیوسته افتخارات تازه‌ای نصیبم می‌شد و به قدرتم افزوده می‌گشت.

21 To me men gave ear, and waited, And kept silence for my counsel.

همه با سکوت به حرفهایم گوش می‌دادند و برای نصیحت‌های من ارزش قائل بودند.

22 To my words they made no reply, When my speech dropped down upon them.

پس از اینکه سخنانم تمام می‌شد آنها دیگر حرفی نمی‌زدند، زیرا نصایح من برای آنها قانع کننده بود.

23 Yea, they waited for me as for the rain; They opened their mouths wide as for the latter rain.

آنها مانند کسی که در زمان خشکسالی انتظار باران را می‌کشد، با اشتیاق در انتظار سخنان من بودند.

24 If I smiled upon them, they believed it not; Nor did they cause the light of my countenance to fall.

وقتی که دلسرد بودند، با یک لبخند آنها را تشویق می‌کردم و بار غم را از دلهایشان برمی‌داشتم.

25 When I came among them, I sat as chief; I dwelt as a king in the midst of an army, As a comforter among mourners.

مانند کسی بودم که عزاداران را تسلی می‌دهد. در میان ایشان مثل یک پادشاه حکومت می‌کردم و مانند یک رهبر آنها را راهنمایی می‌نمودم.
