Job 28
1 Truly there is a vein for silver, And a place for gold, which men refine.
“Hay minas de plata y lugares donde se refina el oro.
2 Iron is obtained from earth, And stone is melted into copper.
El hierro se extrae de la tierra y el cobre se funde a partir de su mineral.
3 Man putteth an end to darkness; He searcheth to the lowest depths For the stone of darkness and the shadow of death.
Los mineros llevan lámparas a la oscuridad del subsuelo y buscan el mineral hasta donde pueden llegar en las sombras y la penumbra.
4 From the place where they dwell they open a shaft; Forgotten by the feet, They hang down, they swing away from men.
Cavan una mina lejos de donde vive la gente o lejos de donde la gente pueda pasar. Se agarran de cuerdas que cuelgan en las fosas.
5 The earth, out of which cometh bread, Is torn up underneath, as it were by fire.
El pan sale de la tierra, pero debajo parece que el fuego le ha dado la vuelta.
6 Her stones are the place of sapphires, And she hath clods of gold for man.
Aquí las rocas contienen lapislázuli y el polvo contiene oro.
7 The path thereto no bird knoweth, And the vulture's eye hath not seen it;
Ningún ave de rapiña puede ver estos caminos, ningún ojo de halcón puede percibir.
8 The fierce wild beast hath not trodden it; The lion hath not passed over it.
Ninguna fiera ha pasado por ese camino; el león no ha andado por allí.
9 Man layeth his hand upon the rock; He upturneth mountains from their roots;
Los mineros atacan la dura roca; derriban las raíces de las montañas.
10 He cleaveth out streams in the rocks, And his eye seeth every precious thing;
Hacen túneles en la roca, buscando cuidadosamente cada piedra preciosa.
11 He bindeth up the streams, that they trickle not, And bringeth hidden things to light.
Ponen diques en las fuentes de los ríos, y sacan a la luz lo que está oculto.
12 But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?
“Pero, ¿dónde se puede encontrar la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar para obtener el entendimiento?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof, Nor can it be found in the land of the living.
Los seres humanos no conocen el camino de la sabiduría; no se encuentra entre los vivos.
14 The deep saith, It is not in me; And the sea saith, It is not with me.
Las aguas profundas dicen: ‘No está aquí’, y el mar dice: ‘Tampoco está aquí’.
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, Nor shall silver be weighed out as the price thereof.
No se puede comprar con oro ni con plata.
16 It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir, With the precious onyx or the sapphire.
Su valor no se puede medir, ni siquiera con el oro de Ofir; es más precioso que el ónix o el lapislázuli.
17 Gold and crystal are not to be compared with it; Nor can it be purchased with jewels of fine gold.
El oro o el cristal fino no se pueden comparar con la sabiduría; no se puede cambiar por joyas de oro.
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; For wisdom is more precious than pearls.
El coral y el cristal no son dignos de mención; el precio de la sabiduría está muy por encima de los rubíes.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, Nor can it be purchased with pure gold.
El topacio de Etiopía no se puede comparar con ella; ni se puede comprar con el oro más puro.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
“Entonces, ¿de dónde viene la sabiduría? ¿Dónde se adquiere el entendimiento?
21 Since it is hidden from the eyes of all living, And kept close from the fowls of the air.
La sabiduría está oculta de la vista de todos los seres vivos, incluso las aves del cielo no pueden verla.
22 Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.
Abadón y la Muerte dice: ‘Sólo hemos oído un rumor sobre ella’.
23 God knoweth the way to it; He knoweth its dwelling-place.
“Sólo Dios comprende el camino de la sabiduría; él sabe dónde se encuentra.
24 For he seeth to the ends of the earth, And surveyeth all things under the whole heaven.
Porque él mira hasta el final de la tierra; ve todo lo que hay bajo el cielo.
25 When he gave the winds their weight, And meted out the waters by measure;
Él decidió cuál sería la fuerza del viento y reguló las aguas.
26 When he prescribed a law to the rain, And a path to the thunder-flash, —
Fijó el límite de la lluvia e hizo un camino para el rayo.
27 Then did he see it, and make it known; He established it, and searched it out.
Luego consideró la sabiduría. La examinó, le dio su aprobación y la declaró buena.
28 But he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.
Dijo a los hombres: ‘Reverenciar al Señor es la sabiduría, y apartarse del mal es el entendimiento’”.
