Job 1
1 In the land of Uz lived a man whose name was Job. He was an upright and good man, fearing God and departing from evil.
Ûs ülkesinde Eyüp adında bir adam yaşardı. Kusursuz, doğru bir adamdı. Tanrı'dan korkar, kötülükten kaçınırdı.
2 He had seven sons and three daughters.
Yedi oğlu, üç kızı vardı.
3 His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses, and a great number of servants; so that he was the greatest of all the inhabitants of the East.
Yedi bin koyuna, üç bin deveye, beş yüz çift öküze, beş yüz çift eşeğe ve pek çok köleye sahipti. Doğudaki insanların en zengini oydu.
4 Now it was the custom of his sons to make a feast in their houses, each on his day, and to send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
Oğulları sırayla evlerinde şölen verir, birlikte yiyip içmek için üç kızkardeşlerini de çağırırlardı.
5 And when the days of their feasting had gone round, Job used to send for them and sanctify them, and to rise up early in the morning and offer burnt-offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and have renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
Bu şölen dönemi bitince Eyüp onları çağırtıp kutsardı. Sabah erkenden kalkar, “Çocuklarım günah işlemiş, içlerinden Tanrı'ya sövmüş olabilirler” diyerek her biri için yakmalık sunu sunardı. Eyüp hep böyle yapardı.
6 Now on a certain day the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, and Satan also came among them.
Bir gün ilahi varlıklar RAB'bin huzuruna çıkmak için geldiklerinde, Şeytan da onlarla geldi.
7 And Jehovah said to Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From wandering over the earth, and walking up and down in it.
RAB Şeytan'a, “Nereden geliyorsun?” dedi. Şeytan, “Dünyada gezip dolaşmaktan” diye yanıtladı.
8 And Jehovah said to Satan, Hast thou observed my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, an upright and good man, fearing God and departing from evil?
RAB, “Kulum Eyüp'e bakıp da düşündün mü?” dedi, “Çünkü dünyada onun gibisi yoktur. Kusursuz, doğru bir adamdır. Tanrı'dan korkar, kötülükten kaçınır.”
9 Then Satan answered Jehovah, Is it for nought that Job feareth God?
Şeytan, “Eyüp Tanrı'dan boşuna mı korkuyor?” diye yanıtladı.
10 Hast thou not placed a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all his possessions? Thou hast prospered the work of his hands, and his herds are greatly increased in the land.
“Onu, ev halkını, sahip olduğu her şeyi sen çitle çevirip korumadın mı? Elleriyle yaptığı her şeyi bereketli kıldın. Sürüleri bütün ülkeye yayıldı.
11 But only put forth thy hand, and touch whatever he possesseth, and to thy face will he renounce thee.
Ama elini uzatır da sahip olduğu her şeyi yok edersen, yüzüne karşı sövecektir.”
12 And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; but upon him lay not thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.
RAB Şeytan'a, “Peki” dedi, “Sahip olduğu her şeyi senin eline bırakıyorum, yalnız kendisine dokunma.” Böylece Şeytan RAB'bin huzurundan ayrıldı.
13 Now on a certain day the sons and daughters of Job were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
Bir gün Eyüp'ün oğullarıyla kızları ağabeylerinin evinde yemek yiyip şarap içerken
14 when a messenger came to Job, and said, The oxen were ploughing, and the asses feeding beside them,
bir ulak gelip Eyüp'e şöyle dedi: “Öküzler çift sürüyor, eşekler onların yanında otluyordu.
15 and the Sabaeans fell upon them, and took them away; the servants also they slew with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
Sabalılar baskın yaptı, hepsini alıp götürdü. Uşakları kılıçtan geçirdiler. Yalnız ben kaçıp kurtuldum sana durumu bildirmek için.”
16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God hath fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
O daha sözünü bitirmeden başka bir ulak gelip, “Tanrı ateş yağdırdı” dedi, “Koyunlarla uşakları yakıp küle çevirdi. Yalnızca ben kaçıp kurtuldum durumu sana bildirmek için.”
17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldaeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and carried them away; the servants also they slew with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
O daha sözünü bitirmeden başka bir ulak gelip, “Kildaniler üç bölük halinde develere saldırdı” dedi, “Hepsini alıp götürdüler, uşakları kılıçtan geçirdiler. Yalnızca ben kurtuldum durumu sana bildirmek için.”
18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house;
O daha sözünü bitirmeden başka bir ulak gelip, “Oğullarınla kızların ağabeylerinin evinde yemek yiyip şarap içerken
19 and, lo! there came a great wind from the desert, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
ansızın çölden şiddetli bir rüzgar esti” dedi, “Evin dört köşesine çarptı; ev gençlerin üzerine yıkıldı, hepsi öldü. Yalnız ben kurtuldum durumu sana bildirmek için.”
20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped;
Bunun üzerine Eyüp kalktı, kaftanını yırtıp saçını sakalını kesti, yere kapanıp tapındı.
21 and said, Naked came I forth from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah!
Dedi ki, “Bu dünyaya çıplak geldim, çıplak gideceğim. RAB verdi, RAB aldı, RAB'bin adına övgüler olsun!”
22 In all this Job sinned not, nor uttered vain words against God.
Bütün bu olaylara karşın Eyüp günah işlemedi ve Tanrı'yı suçlamadı.
