Jeremiah 1
1 The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests, who dwelt in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin;
Paroles de Jérémie, fils d’Helcias, un des prêtres qui demeuraient à Anathoth, dans la terre de Benjamin.
2 to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign;
Parole du Seigneur qui lui fut adressée dans les jours de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, en la treizième année de son règne.
3 to whom it also came in the days of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem into captivity in the fifth month.
Elle lui fut aussi adressée dans les jours de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu’à la transmigration de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois,
4 The word of Jehovah came to me, saying:
Elle me fut donc adressée la parole du Seigneur, disant:
5 Before I formed thee in the womb, I knew thee; and before thou camest into the world, I chose thee; I appointed thee to be a prophet to the nations.
Avant que je t’eusse formé dans le sein de ta mère, je t’ai connu, et avant que tu fusses sorti de ses entrailles, je t’ai sanctifié, et je t’ai établi prophète parmi les nations.
6 Then said I, Alas, O Lord Jehovah! Behold, I am not able to speak; for I am a child.
Et je dis: A, a, a, Seigneur Dieu; voyez, je ne sais point parler, parce que moi, je suis un enfant.
7 But Jehovah said to me, Say not, I am a child; but go to whomever I send thee, and speak whatever I command thee!
Et le Seigneur me dit: Ne dis pas: Je suis un enfant, puisque partout où je t’enverrai, ta iras; et que tout ce que je te commanderai, tu le diras.
8 Be not afraid of them! For I am with thee to help thee, saith Jehovah.
Ne crains pas à cause d’eux, parce que moi, je suis avec toi, afin que je te délivre, dit le Seigneur.
9 Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. Jehovah also said to me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Et le Seigneur étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche; et le Seigneur me dit: Voilà que j’ai mis ma parole en ta bouche.
10 Behold, I have set thee this day over nations and over kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to overthrow; and to build, and to plant.
Voilà qu’aujourd’hui je t’ai établi sur les nations et sur les royaumes, afin que tu arraches et que tu détruises, et que tu perdes et que tu dissipes, et que tu édifies et que tu plantes.
11 Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, I see a rod of almond-wood.
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut encore adressée, disant: Que vois-tu, toi, Jérémie? Et je dis: Je vois une verge qui veille.
12 And Jehovah said to me, Thou hast seen right; for I am watchful over my word to perform it.
Et le Seigneur me dit: Tu as bien vu, parce que je veillerai sur ma parole, afin que je l’accomplisse.
13 And the word of Jehovah came to me a second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling pot, whose face is turned from the north.
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée une seconde fois, disant: Que vois-tu, toi? Et je dis: Je vois une marmite bouillante, et sa face venant de la face de l’aquilon.
14 And Jehovah said to me, From the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Et le Seigneur me dit: C’est de l’aquilon que se déploiera le mal sur tous les habitants de la terre;
15 For, behold, I will call all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all her walls around, and against all the cities of Judah.
Parce que voici que moi, je convoquerai toutes les familles des royaumes de l’aquilon, dit le Seigneur; et elles viendront, et elles établiront chacune son trône à l’entrée des portes de Jérusalem, et sur tous ses murs à l’entour, et dans toutes les villes de Juda.
16 And I will pronounce my judgments against them for all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshipped the work of their own hands.
Et je leur dirai mes jugements sur toute la malice de ceux qui m’ont délaissé, qui ont fait des libations à des dieux étrangers et ont adoré l’ouvrage de leurs mains.
17 Thou, therefore, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command thee; be not afraid of them, lest I confound thee before them.
Toi donc, ceins tes reins, et lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que moi, je te commande. Ne crains pas devant leur face; car je ferai que tu ne craignes pas leur visage.
18 For, behold, I make thee this day a fortified city, and a pillar of iron, and a wall of brass against all this land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Car c’est moi qui t’ai établi aujourd’hui comme une ville fortifiée, et une colonne de fer, et un mur d’airain sur toute la terre, contre les rois de Juda, ses princes, et ses prêtres et son peuple.
19 They shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee; for I will be with thee, saith Jehovah, to help thee.
Et ils combattront contre toi, et ne prévaudront point, parce que moi je suis avec toi, dit le Seigneur, afin que je te délivre.
