Jeremiah 1
1 The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests, who dwelt in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin;
Les paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkija, d'entre les Sacrificateurs qui étaient à Hanathoth, au pays de Benjamin;
2 to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign;
Auquel fut [adressée] la parole de l'Eternel, aux jours de Josias fils d'Amon Roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne;
3 to whom it also came in the days of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem into captivity in the fifth month.
Laquelle lui fut aussi [adressée] aux jours de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, Roi de Juda, jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, Roi de Juda, [savoir] jusqu’au temps que Jérusalem fut transportée, ce qui arriva au cinquième mois.
4 The word of Jehovah came to me, saying:
La parole donc de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant:
5 Before I formed thee in the womb, I knew thee; and before thou camest into the world, I chose thee; I appointed thee to be a prophet to the nations.
Avant que je te formasse dans le ventre [de ta mère], je t'ai connu; et avant que tu fusses sorti de [son] sein, je t'ai sanctifié, je t'ai établi Prophète pour les nations.
6 Then said I, Alas, O Lord Jehovah! Behold, I am not able to speak; for I am a child.
Et je répondis: Ha! ha! Seigneur Eternel! voici, je ne sais pas parler; car je suis un enfant.
7 But Jehovah said to me, Say not, I am a child; but go to whomever I send thee, and speak whatever I command thee!
Et l'Eternel me dit: ne dis point: je suis un enfant; car tu iras partout où je t'enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je te commanderai.
8 Be not afraid of them! For I am with thee to help thee, saith Jehovah.
Ne crains point [de te montrer] devant eux, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Eternel.
9 Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. Jehovah also said to me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Et l'Eternel avança sa main, et en toucha ma bouche, puis l'Eternel me dit: voici, j'ai mis mes paroles en ta bouche.
10 Behold, I have set thee this day over nations and over kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to overthrow; and to build, and to plant.
Regarde, je t'ai établi aujourd'hui sur les nations, et sur les Royaumes, afin que tu arraches et que tu démolisses, que tu ruines, et que tu détruises; que tu bâtisses, et que tu plantes.
11 Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, I see a rod of almond-wood.
Puis la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant: que vois-tu, Jérémie? Et je répondis: je vois une branche d'amandier.
12 And Jehovah said to me, Thou hast seen right; for I am watchful over my word to perform it.
Et l'Eternel me dit: tu as bien vu; car je me hâte d'exécuter ma parole.
13 And the word of Jehovah came to me a second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling pot, whose face is turned from the north.
Alors la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée] pour la seconde fois, en disant: que vois-tu? Et je répondis: je vois un pot bouillant, dont le devant est tourné vers l'Aquilon.
14 And Jehovah said to me, From the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Et l'Eternel me dit: le mal se découvrira du côté de l'Aquilon sur tous les habitants de ce pays-ci.
15 For, behold, I will call all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all her walls around, and against all the cities of Judah.
Car voici, je m'en vais appeler toutes les familles des Royaumes de l'Aquilon, dit l'Eternel; et elles viendront, et mettront chacune son trône à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, et près de toutes ses murailles à l'environ, et près de toutes les villes de Juda.
16 And I will pronounce my judgments against them for all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshipped the work of their own hands.
Et je leur prononcerai mes jugements, à cause de toute leur malice, par laquelle ils m'ont délaissé, et ont fait des parfums à d'autres dieux, et se sont prosternés devant l'ouvrage de leurs mains.
17 Thou, therefore, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command thee; be not afraid of them, lest I confound thee before them.
Toi donc, trousse tes reins, et te lève, et dis-leur toutes les choses que je te commanderai; ne crains point [de te montrer] devant eux, de peur que je ne te fasse mettre en pièces en leur présence.
18 For, behold, I make thee this day a fortified city, and a pillar of iron, and a wall of brass against all this land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Car voici, je t'ai aujourd'hui établi comme une ville forte; et comme une colonne de fer, et comme des murailles d'airain, contre tout ce pays-ci, c'est-à-dire, contre les Rois de Juda, contre les principaux du pays, contre ses Sacrificateurs, et contre le peuple du pays.
19 They shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee; for I will be with thee, saith Jehovah, to help thee.
Et ils combattront contre toi, mais ils ne seront pas plus forts que toi; car je suis avec toi, dit l'Eternel, pour te délivrer.
