Jeremiah 49
1 Concerning the children of Ammon. Thus saith Jehovah: Hath Israel no sons? Hath he not an heir? Why then doth Milcom inherit Gad, And his people dwell in his cities?
Contre les enfants d'Ammon. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Israël n'a-t-il pas de fils, n'a-t-il pas d'héritier? Pourquoi Melchom a-t-il pris possession de Gad, et son peuple s'est-il installé dans ses villes?
2 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, That I will cause a cry of war to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, And she shall become a ruinous heap, And her daughters shall be burned with fire; And Israel shall take possession of their land, who took possession of his.
C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où je ferai retentir à Rabba des enfants d'Ammon le cri de guerre. Elle deviendra un monceau de ruines, et ses filles seront livrées au feu, et Israël héritera de ceux qui ont hérité de lui, — oracle de Yahweh.
3 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste! Cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, Gird yourselves with sackcloth, lament, And run ye to and fro within the fences! For Milcom goeth into captivity, His priests and his princes together.
Lamente-toi, Hésébon, car Haï a été saccagée; poussez des cris, filles de Rabbah, ceignez-vous de sacs, lamentez-vous; errez le long des clôtures; car Melchom s'en va en exil, et avec lui, ses prêtres et ses chefs.
4 Wherefore dost thou glory in the valleys? Thy valley shall flow [[with blood]], O perverse daughter, That gloriest in thy treasures, [[Saying, ]] “Who shall come against me?”
Pourquoi te glorifier de tes vallées? — elle est riche, ta vallée! — fille rebelle, toi qui te confies dans tes trésors, disant: " Qui oserait venir contre moi? "
5 Behold, I will bring a terror upon thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, From all those that are around thee, And ye shall be driven out, every one right forth, And there shall be none to gather up the fugitives.
Voici que j'amène contre toi la terreur, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh des armées, de tous les alentours; vous serez chassés, chacun droit devant soi, et personne ne ralliera les fuyards.
6 But after this will I bring back the captivity of the sons of Ammon, saith Jehovah.
Mais après cela, je ramènerai les captifs des enfants d'Ammon, — oracle de Yahweh.
7 Concerning the Edomites. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? Is counsel passed away from the prudent? Is their wisdom vanished?
Contre Edom. Ainsi parle Yahweh, des armées: N'y a-t-il plus de sagesse en Théman? Les avisés sont-ils à bout de conseils? Leur sagesse s'est-elle évanouie?
8 Flee ye, turn ye back, Dwell in deep places, O ye inhabitants of Dedan! For the destruction of Esau do I bring, The time of his punishment upon him.
Fuyez, retournez sur vos pas, blottissez-vous, habitants de Dédan car j'amènerai sur Esaü la ruine, au temps où je le visite.
9 If grape-gatherers had come upon thee, Would they not have left some gleanings? If thieves by night, They would have destroyed only till they had enough.
Si des vendangeurs viennent chez toi, ils ne laissent rien à grappiller; si ce sont des voleurs de nuit, ils pillent tout leur soûl.
10 But I will make Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding-places, So that he shall not be able to hide himself. His offspring shall be destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors, And he shall be no more.
Car c'est moi qui ai mis à nu Esaü et découvert ses retraites, et il ne peut plus se cacher; sa race est ravagé, ses frères, ses voisins, — et il n'est plus.
11 Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive, And thy widows, let them trust in me!
Abandonne tes orphelins, c'est moi qui les ferai vivre, et que tes veuves se confient en moi!
12 For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, they who ought not to have drunk the cup have deeply drunken, And shalt thou go altogether unpunished? Thou shalt not go unpunished; Thou shalt surely drink.
Car ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici que ceux qui ne devaient pas boire cette coupe la boiront sûrement; et toi, tu en serais tenu quitte? Non, tu n'en seras pas tenu quitte, tu la boiras sûrement!
13 For by myself have I sworn, saith Jehovah, That Bozrah shall become an astonishment, A reproach, a desolation, and a curse; And all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.
Car je l'ai juré par moi-même, — oracle de Yahweh: Bosra sera un sujet d'étonnement et d'opprobre, un lieu désert et maudit, et toutes ses villes seront des ruines à jamais.
14 I have heard a proclamation from Jehovah, And an ambassador hath been sent among the nations, [[Saying, ]] “Assemble yourselves, and come against her, And arise to battle!”
J'en ai appris de Yahweh la nouvelle, et un messager a été envoyé parmi les nations: " Rassemblez-vous et marchez contre lui! Levez-vous pour le combat! "
15 For, behold, I will make thee small among the nations, Despised among men.
Car voici que je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations, méprisé parmi les hommes.
16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, The pride of thy heart, Because thou dwellest in the recesses of the rock, And holdest the height of the hill. Though thou set thy nest on high, like the eagle, From thence will I bring thee down, saith Jehovah.
La terreur que tu inspirais t'a égaré, ainsi que la fierté de ton cœur, toi qui habites le creux des rochers, qui occupes le sommet de la colline. Mais quand tu élèverais ton aire comme l'aigle, de là je te ferai descendre, — oracle de Yahweh.
17 And Edom shall be an astonishment: Every one that passeth by her shall be astonished, And shall hiss on account of all her plagues.
Edom sera un sujet d'étonnement; tous les passants s'étonneront, et siffleront à la vue de toutes ses plaies.
18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, And their neighboring cities, saith Jehovah, There shall not a man abide there, Nor a son of man dwell within her.
Ce sera comme la catastrophe de Sodome, de Gomorrhe et des villes voisines, dit Yahweh; personne n'y habitera, aucun fils de l'homme n'y séjournera.
19 Behold, he [[the enemy]] cometh up like a lion from the pride of Jordan against the habitation of the rock; Suddenly will I drive him [[Edom]] thence, And him who is chosen by me will I set over her. For who is like me, Or who will summon me to trial? Or who is the shepherd that will stand up against me?
Pareil à un lion, voici qu'il monte des halliers du Jourdain au pâturage perpétuel; soudain j'en ferai fuir Edom, et j'y établirai celui que j'ai choisi. Car qui est semblable à moi? Qui me provoquerait, et quel est le berger qui me tiendrait tête?
20 Therefore, hear ye the purpose of Jehovah, Which he hath formed against Edom, And the designs which he meditateth against the inhabitants of Teman! Surely he [[the enemy]] shall drag them forth like feeble sheep; Surely he shall come upon them, And make their pastures desolate.
Ecoutez donc la résolution qu'a prise Yahweh contre Edom, et les desseins qu'il a médités contre les habitants de Théman: Oui, on les entraînera comme de faibles brebis; oui, leur pâturage en sera dans la stupeur.
21 At the noise of their fall the earth trembleth, Even to the Red Sea is their cry heard.
Au bruit de leur chute, la terre tremble; le bruit de leur voix se fait entendre jusqu'à la mer Rouge.
22 Behold, like an eagle, he [[the enemy]] cometh up, And spreadeth his wings over Bozrah; And the hearts of the heroes of Edom, in that day, Shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Voici qu'il monte et prend son vol comme l'aigle, il étend ses ailes sur Bosra; et le cœur des guerriers d'Edom est en ce jour comme le cœur d'une femme en travail.
23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath and Arpad are confounded; They faint, because they have heard evil tidings. There is anxiety at the sea; It cannot be at rest.
Contre Damas. Hamath et Arphad sont dans la confusion, parce qu'elles ont reçu une mauvaise nouvelle; elles se fondent de peur; c'est la mer en tourmente, qui ne peut s'apaiser.
24 Damascus is faint-hearted; She turneth herself to flee; Trembling hath seized on her; Anguish and pangs have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail.
Damas est sans force, elle se tourne pour fuir, et l'effroi s'empare d'elle; l'angoisse et les douleurs la saisissent, comme une femme qui enfante.
25 “Why is not the praised city left, The city of my joy?”
A quel point n'est-elle pas abandonnée, la ville glorieuse, la cité de délices, de joie!
26 Yea, her young men shall fall in her streets, And all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, Saith Jehovah of hosts.
Aussi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places, ainsi que tous ses hommes de guerre; ils périront en ce jour-là, — oracle de Yahweh des armées.
27 Yea, I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, Which shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.
J'allumerai un feu dans les murs de Damas, et il dévorera les palais de Ben-Hadad.
28 Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, smote. Thus saith Jehovah: Arise ye, go up against Kedar, And spoil the sons of the East!
Contre Cédar et les royaumes de Hasor, que frappa Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Debout! Marchez contre Cédar, exterminez les fils de l'Orient!
29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away; They shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their furniture, and their camels, And men shall cry to them, “Terror is on every side.”
Qu'on prenne leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux! Qu'on leur enlève leurs tentures, tous leurs bagages et leurs chameaux! Et qu'on leur crie: Terreur de toutes parts!
30 Flee, get you far off, dwell in deep places, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith Jehovah. For Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, meditates a design against you, And has formed a purpose against you.
Sauvez-vous, fuyez de toutes vos forces, blottissez-vous, habitants de Hasor! — oracle de Yahweh. Car Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, a formé contre vous un dessein, il a conçu un projet contre vous.
31 Arise ye, go up against a nation at ease, That dwelleth securely, saith Jehovah; Which hath neither gates nor bars; Which dwelleth alone.
Debout! Marchez contre un peuple tranquille, en assurance dans sa demeure, — oracle de Yahweh, qui n'a ni portes ni barres, qui vit à l'écart.
32 And their camels shall be a booty, And the multitude of their cattle a spoil; And I will scatter to all the winds them that shave the cheeks, And from every side will I bring their calamity, saith Jehovah.
Leurs chameaux seront votre butin, et la multitude de leurs troupeaux vos dépouilles. Je les disperserai à tous les vents, ces hommes aux tempes rasées, et de tous côtés je ferai venir sur leur ruine, — oracle de Yahweh.
33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for jackals, A desolation forever. There shall not a man abide there, Nor any son of man dwell therein.
Et Hasor deviendra un repaire de chacals, une solitude pour toujours; personne n'y demeurera, aucun fils d'homme n'y séjournera.
34 The word of Jehovah which came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah, saying: —
La parole de Yahweh qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, pour Élam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, en ces termes:
35 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I break the bow of Elam, The chief part of their strength.
Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Voici que je vais briser l'arc d'Élam, principe de sa force.
36 And I will bring against Elam The four winds from the four extremities of the heavens, And I will scatter them to all these winds, And there shall be no nation To which the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
Je ferai venir sur Élam quatre vents, des quatre coins du ciel, et je le disperserai à tous ces vents; et il n'y aura pas une nation où n'arrivent pas des fugitifs d'Élam.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, And before them that seek their life. And I will bring evil upon them, The fierceness of my anger, saith Jehovah. And I will send after them the sword, Until I have consumed them.
Je ferai trembler Élam devant ses ennemis, et devant ceux qui en veulent à sa vie. Et j'amènerai sur eux des malheurs, le feu de mon ardente colère, — oracle de Yahweh. Et j'enverrai après eux l'épée, jusqu'à ce que je les aie anéantis.
38 And I will set up my throne in Elam, And I will destroy from thence king and princes, saith Jehovah.
Je placerai mon trône en Élam, et j'en exterminerai roi et chefs, — oracle de Yahweh.
39 But it shall come to pass in future times, That I will bring back the captivity of Elam, saith Jehovah.
Mais à la fin des jours, je ramènerai les captifs d'Élam, — oracle de Yahweh.
