James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
| אל שנים עשר השבטים שפזורים בתפוצות. מאת יעקב, עבדו של אלוהים ושל ישוע המשיח. שלום וברכה לכולכם! |
2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various temptations;
| אחים יקרים, אם יש לכם צרות ובעיות, ואם אתם עומדים בפני פיתויים חזקים, תחשיבו זאת כהזדמנות לשמחה גדולה. |
3 knowing that the trying of your faith worketh endurance.
| שכן צרות, בעיות ופיתויים מחזקים את כוח הסבל. |
4 But let endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting in nothing.
| לכן אל תברחו מהבעיות, אלא תנו לסבלנותכם להתחזק. כאשר תהיה סבלנותכם חזקה די הצורך, לא יחסר לכם דבר, אופייכם יהיה חזק מן הרגיל ותהיו מסוגלים לכל דבר. |
5 But if any one of you is wanting in wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it will be given him.
| ברצונכם לדעת מה רוצה האלוהים שתעשו? שאלו אותו והוא יגיד לכם ברצון. ה׳ מוכן תמיד להעניק חכמה באהבה וברוחב לב למי שמבקש ממנו, בלי לגעור בו על שביקש. |
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting; for he that doubteth is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.
| אך עליכם להאמין, ללא צל של ספק, שהוא באמת ייתן לכם מה שאתם מבקשים ממנו, כי אדם ספקן וחסר־אמונה דומה לגל בים הנישא וניזרק על־ידי הרוח. |
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord,
| אדם ספקן הוא אדם הפכפך שמשנה את דעתו בכל רגע, שכן אינו בטוח בהחלטותיו. אם אינכם מבקשים באמונה, אל תצפו מה׳ להיענות לכם. |
8 a double-minded man as he is, unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree glory in that he is exalted;
| מאמין משיחי הנחשב לעני בעולם הזה צריך לשמוח, כי בעיני אלוהים הוא חשוב מאוד, |
10 but the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass he will pass away.
| והמאמין העשיר צריך לשמוח על שעושרו חסר כל ערך בעיני ה׳. כי כמו הפרח שמאבד את יופיו, מתייבש בקרני השמש הצורבות וָמֶת, כך ימותו העשירים תוך זמן קצר וישאירו אחריהם את כל רכושם. |
11 For the sun rose with its burning heat, and withered the grass, and its flower fell off, and the beauty of its appearance perished; so also will the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is approved, he will receive the crown of life, which He promised to them that love him.
| טוב לאדם שעומד בפיתויים ולא נכשל, כי הוא יקבל פרס – את כתר החיים שהבטיח ה׳ לכל האוהבים אותו. |
13 Let no one when he is tempted, say, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he tempteth no one.
| זכרו, אלוהים אף פעם אינו מנסה לפתותכם לעשות מעשים רעים, כי אלוהים עצמו שונא את הרע. לכן, אם אתם עומדים לפני פיתויים שונים, אל תאשימו את אלוהים! |
14 But each one is tempted when by his own lust he is led away and enticed;
| מקור הפיתויים הוא בלב האדם, בתשוקותיו ובמחשבותיו הרעות. |
15 then lust, having conceived, bringeth forth sin, and sin, when completed, bringeth forth death.
| המחשבות האלה מולידות מעשים רעים. כאשר נותנים לחטא לצמוח, זה מוליד מוות. |
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
| לכן, אחים יקרים, אל תטעו בשום פנים. |
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no change, nor shadow from turning.
| כל המתנות הטובות והמושלמות ניתנות לנו מהאלוהים אשר ברא את כל האורות, ואשר בעצמו מקרין אור נפלא שאינו משתנה ואינו נחלש לעולם. |
18 Of his own will he begot us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.
| אלוהים בחר מרצונו החופשי לתת לנו חיים חדשים, באמצעות האמת שבכתבי־הקודש, וכך הפכנו להיות הילדים הראשונים במשפחתו החדשה. |
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
| זכרו, אחים יקרים, כולם צריכים להיות מהירים להקשיב, אך איטיים לדבר ואיטיים להתרגז, |
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
| כי הרוגז מכער אותנו ואת אופיינו, ואילו ה׳ רוצה שנהיה טובים ומושלמים. |
21 Wherefore put off all filthiness, and excess of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
| על כן היפטרו מכל דבר רע בחייכם, מבפנים ומבחוץ, וקבלו בשמחה ובענווה את דבר אלוהים אשר בכוחו להושיענו. |
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
| עליכם לבצע את דבר אלוהים הלכה למעשה, כי אם אתם מקשיבים ואינכם מקיימים, אתם מרמים את עצמכם. |
23 For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass;
| מי שמקשיב בלבד ואינו מקיים את אשר שמע, דומה לאדם שמביט בדמותו במראה; |
24 for he beholds himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.
| ברגע שהוא מפנה את גבו למראה, שוב אינו יכול לראות את בבואתו ושוכח כיצד הוא נראה. |
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty, and remains there, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in his deed.
| אך החוקר והלומד את תורת החופש שנתן ה׳ לבני אדם, לא זו בלבד שיזכור את הכתוב, הוא גם יבצע אותו הלכה למעשה, ואלוהים יברכו בכל מעשיו. |
26 If any one thinks that he is religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
| הטוען שהוא מאמין משיחי, אך אינו מסוגל לשלוט בלשונו, מרמה את עצמו, ואמונתו אינה שווה הרבה. |
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God, the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep one's self unspotted from the world.
| אמונה טהורה ואמיתית בעיני אלוהים האב פירושה לדאוג לאלמנות וליתומים בצרתם, ולסרב להשפעה המטמאת של העולם. |
