James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
૧વિખેરાઈ ગયેલા બારે કુળને, ઈશ્વરના તથા પ્રભુ ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્તનાં દાસ યાકૂબની સલામ.
2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various temptations;
૨મારા ભાઈઓ, જયારે તમને વિવિધ પ્રકારની કસોટીઓ થાય છે ત્યારે તેમાં પૂરો આનંદ ગણો;
3 knowing that the trying of your faith worketh endurance.
૩કેમ કે તમે જાણો છો કે તમારા વિશ્વાસની પરીક્ષામાં પાર ઊતર્યાથી ધીરજ ઉત્પન્ન થાય છે.
4 But let endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting in nothing.
૪તમે પરિપક્વ તથા સંપૂર્ણ થાઓ અને કશામાં અપૂર્ણ રહો નહિ, માટે ધીરજને પોતાનું કામ પૂરેપૂરું કરવા દો.
5 But if any one of you is wanting in wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it will be given him.
૫તમારામાંનો જો કોઈ જ્ઞાનમાં અપૂર્ણ હોય, તો ઈશ્વર જે સર્વને ઉદારતાથી આપે છે અને ઠપકો આપતા નથી, તેમની પાસેથી તે માગે; એટલે તેને તે આપવામાં આવશે.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting; for he that doubteth is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.
૬પરંતુ કંઈ પણ સંદેહ રાખ્યા વગર વિશ્વાસથી માગવું; કેમ કે જે કોઈ સંદેહ રાખીને માગે છે, તે પવનથી ઊછળતા તથા અફળાતા સમુદ્રના મોજાના જેવો છે.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord,
૭એવા માણસે પ્રભુ તરફથી તેને કંઈ મળશે એવું ન ધારવું.
8 a double-minded man as he is, unstable in all his ways.
૮આવા પ્રકારના મનુષ્ય બે મનવાળો હોય છે અને પોતાના સઘળા માર્ગોમાં અસ્થિર છે.
9 Let the brother of low degree glory in that he is exalted;
૯જે ભાઈ ઊતરતા પદનો છે તે પોતાના ઉચ્ચપદમાં અભિમાન કરે;
10 but the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass he will pass away.
૧૦જે શ્રીમંત છે, તે પોતાના ઊતરતા પદમાં અભિમાન કરે કેમ કે ઘાસનાં ફૂલની પેઠે તે વિલીન થઈ જશે.
11 For the sun rose with its burning heat, and withered the grass, and its flower fell off, and the beauty of its appearance perished; so also will the rich man fade away in his ways.
૧૧કેમ કે સૂર્ય ઊગે છે અને ગરમ પવન વાય છે ત્યારે ઘાસ ચીમળાય છે; તેનું ફૂલ ખરી પડે છે અને તેના સૌંદર્યની શોભા નાશ પામે છે તેમ શ્રીમંત પણ તેના વ્યવહારમાં વિલીન થઈ જશે.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is approved, he will receive the crown of life, which He promised to them that love him.
૧૨જે મનુષ્ય પરીક્ષણમાં પાર ઊતરે છે તે આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે પાર ઊતર્યા પછી, જીવનનો જે મુગટ પ્રભુએ પોતાના પર પ્રેમ રાખનારાઓને આપવાનું આશાવચન આપ્યું છે તે તેને મળશે.
13 Let no one when he is tempted, say, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he tempteth no one.
૧૩કોઈનું પરીક્ષણ થયું હોય તો ઈશ્વરે મારું પરીક્ષણ કર્યું છે, એમ તેણે ન કહેવું; કેમ કે દુષ્ટતાથી ઈશ્વરનું કદાપિ પરીક્ષણ થતું નથી અને તે કોઈને પરીક્ષણમાં લાવતા પણ નથી.
14 But each one is tempted when by his own lust he is led away and enticed;
૧૪પણ દરેક મનુષ્ય પોતાની દુષ્ટ ઇચ્છાઓથી ખેંચાઈને તથા લલચાઈને પરીક્ષણમાં પડે છે.
15 then lust, having conceived, bringeth forth sin, and sin, when completed, bringeth forth death.
૧૫પછી દુષ્ટ ઇચ્છાઓ ગર્ભ ધરીને પાપને જન્મ આપે છે અને પાપ પરિપક્વ થઈને મોતને ઉપજાવે છે.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
૧૬મારા વહાલાં ભાઈઓ, તમે છેતરાતા નહિ.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no change, nor shadow from turning.
૧૭દરેક ઉત્તમ દાન તથા દરેક સંપૂર્ણ દાન ઉપરથી હોય છે અને પ્રકાશોના પિતા જેમનાંમાં પરિવર્તન થતું નથી, તેમ જ જેમનાંમાં ફરવાથી પડતો પડછાયો પણ નથી, તેમની પાસેથી ઊતરે છે.
18 Of his own will he begot us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.
૧૮તેમણે પોતાની ઇચ્છાથી સત્યનાં વચન દ્વારા આપણને જન્મ આપ્યો છે, જેથી આપણે તેમના ઉત્પન્ન કરેલાંઓમાં પ્રથમફળ જેવા થઈએ.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
૧૯મારા વહાલાં ભાઈઓ, તમે તે જાણો છો. દરેક મનુષ્ય સાંભળવામાં ચપળ, બોલવામાં મંદ, તથા ક્રોધ કરવામાં નરમ થાય;
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
૨૦કેમ કે મનુષ્યના ક્રોધથી ઈશ્વરનું ન્યાયપણું કામ કરતું નથી.
21 Wherefore put off all filthiness, and excess of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
૨૧માટે તમે સર્વ મલિનતા તથા દુષ્ટતાની અધિકતા તજી દો અને તમારા હૃદયમાં વાવેલું જે વચન તમારા આત્માનો ઉદ્ધાર કરવાને શક્તિમાન છે તેને નમ્રતાથી ગ્રહણ કરો.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
૨૨તમે વચનના પાળનારા થાઓ, પોતાને છેતરીને કેવળ સાંભળનારાં જ નહિ.
23 For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass;
૨૩કેમ કે જે કોઈ માણસ વચન પાળતો નથી, પણ કેવળ સાંભળે છે, તે પોતાનું સ્વાભાવિક મુખ દર્પણમાં જોનાર મનુષ્યના જેવો છે.
24 for he beholds himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.
૨૪કેમ કે તે પોતાને જુએ છે, પછી ત્યાંથી ખસી જાય છે, એટલે તે પોતે કેવો હતો, એ તે તરત ભૂલી જાય છે.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty, and remains there, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in his deed.
૨૫પણ જે મુક્તિના સંપૂર્ણ નિયમમાં ધ્યાનથી નિહાળે છે અને તેમાં રહે છે, જે સાંભળીને ભૂલી જનાર નહિ, પણ કામ કરનાર થાય છે, તે જ મનુષ્ય પોતાના વ્યવહારમાં આશીર્વાદિત થશે.
26 If any one thinks that he is religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
૨૬જો તમારામાંનો કોઈ માને કે હું પોતે ધાર્મિક છું, પણ પોતાની જીભને કાબૂમાં રાખતો નથી, તે પોતાના હૃદયને છેતરે છે, તેવા મનુષ્યની ધાર્મિકતા વ્યર્થ છે.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God, the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep one's self unspotted from the world.
૨૭વિધવાઓ અને અનાથોના દુઃખના સમયે મુલાકાત લેવી અને જગતથી પોતાને નિષ્કલંક રાખવો એ જ ઈશ્વરની એટલે પિતાની, આગળ શુદ્ધ તથા સ્વચ્છ ધાર્મિકતા છે.
