James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Jakobus, ein Knecht Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus, entbietet den zwölf Stämmen in der Zerstreuung seinen Gruß.
2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various temptations;
Seid hocherfreut, meine Brüder, wenn ihr in allerlei Anfechtungen fallt!
3 knowing that the trying of your faith worketh endurance.
Ihr wißt ja, daß die Prüfung eures Glaubens Beharrlichkeit zur Folge hat.
4 But let endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting in nothing.
Und diese Beharrlichkeit sollt ihr in all euerm Handeln betätigen, damit ihr zur vollen geistlichen Reife kommt und es euch an keiner Tugend mangele.
5 But if any one of you is wanting in wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it will be given him.
Fehlt es aber einem von euch an Weisheit, der bitte Gott darum, und dann wird sie ihm gegeben werden; denn Gott gibt allen gern und hält es nachher niemand vor.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting; for he that doubteth is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.
Er bitte aber im Glauben, ohne zu zweifeln. Denn der Zweifler gleicht einer Meereswoge, die vom Sturm getrieben und geschaukelt wird.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord,
Ein solcher Mensch darf nicht erwarten, etwas von dem Herrn zu empfangen.
8 a double-minded man as he is, unstable in all his ways.
Er hat gleichsam zwei Seelen in seiner Brust und schwankt ohne inneren Halt auf allen seinen Wegen hin und her.
9 Let the brother of low degree glory in that he is exalted;
Der arme, geringe Bruder rühme sich seiner (künftigen) Erhöhung,
10 but the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass he will pass away.
der reiche dagegen denke an seine Erniedrigung; denn wie des Grases Blume wird er vergehen.
11 For the sun rose with its burning heat, and withered the grass, and its flower fell off, and the beauty of its appearance perished; so also will the rich man fade away in his ways.
Die Sonne geht auf mit ihrer Glut und versengt das Gras; dann fällt seine Blume ab, und ihre Schönheit ist dahin. So wird auch der Reiche in all seinem Treiben verwelken.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is approved, he will receive the crown of life, which He promised to them that love him.
Heil dem Mann, der in Anfechtung ausharrt! Denn hat er sich bewährt, dann soll er das (ewige) Leben empfangen als Siegeskranz, den der Herr verheißen hat denen, die ihn lieben.
13 Let no one when he is tempted, say, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he tempteth no one.
Keiner, der versucht wird, behaupte: "Ich werde von Gott versucht." Denn Gott, dem alles Böse fremd ist, versucht niemand (zum Bösen).
14 But each one is tempted when by his own lust he is led away and enticed;
Sondern ein jeder wird versucht, indem er von seiner eigenen Lust (zum Bösen) gereizt und verlockt wird.
15 then lust, having conceived, bringeth forth sin, and sin, when completed, bringeth forth death.
Wenn dann die Lust empfangen hat, so gebiert sie die Sünde. Ist aber die Sünde völlig ausgereift, so gebiert sie den Tod.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Laßt euch also nicht täuschen, meine geliebten Brüder!
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no change, nor shadow from turning.
Jede vortreffliche Gabe und jede vollkommene Schenkung kommt von oben herab, von dem Vater der Lichter. Bei ihm gibt's keine Veränderung, keinen Wechsel von Licht und Schatten.
18 Of his own will he begot us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.
Er hat uns nach dem Ratschluß seines Willens durch das Wort der Wahrheit gezeugt, damit wir gleichsam eine Erstlingsschar unter seinen Geschöpfen wären.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
Das wißt ihr, meine geliebten Brüder. Darum sei jeder schnell bereit zum Hören, langsam zum Reden, (und namentlich) langsam zum Zorn.
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Denn ein zorniger Mensch tut nicht, was Gott gefällt.
21 Wherefore put off all filthiness, and excess of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
So trennt euch nun von allem unsauberen Wesen und dem letzten Überrest der Bosheit und nehmt das Wort, das euch eingepflanzt werden soll, mit Sanftmut auf! Denn es hat die Kraft, eure Seelen zu erretten.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Werdet Täter des Wortes und beschränkt euch nicht aufs Hören: sonst betrügt ihr euch selbst!
23 For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass;
Denn wer nur ein Hörer des Wortes ist, aber kein Täter, der gleicht dem Mann, der sein Äußeres im Spiegel beschaut.
24 for he beholds himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.
Er betrachtet sich wohl, aber er geht weg und vergißt sofort wieder, wie er ausgesehen hat.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty, and remains there, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in his deed.
Wer aber beharrlich in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit blickt und dabei nicht ein vergeßlicher Hörer, sondern ein wirklicher Täter ist, ein solcher Mensch wird sich glücklich fühlen bei seinem Tun.
26 If any one thinks that he is religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Meint einer, er diene Gott, und hält dabei seine Zunge nicht im Zaum, sondern betrügt sein Herz, des Gottesdienst hat keinen Wert.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God, the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep one's self unspotted from the world.
Ein in Gottes, des Vaters, Augen reiner und fleckenloser Gottesdienst ist es, wenn man Witwen und Waisen in ihrer Trübsal besucht und sich von der Welt unbefleckt bewahrt.
