Isaiah 54

1 Sing, O thou barren, that didst not hear! Break forth into singing, and shout for joy, thou that wast not in travail! For more are the children of the desolate Than of the married woman, saith Jehovah.

Giubila, o sterile, tu che non partorivi! Da’ in gridi di gioia ed esulta, tu che non provavi doglie di parto! Poiché i figliuoli della derelitta saran più numerosi dei figliuoli di colei che ha marito, dice l’Eterno.

2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, And let the canopy of thy habitation be extended! Spare not; lengthen thy cords, And make fast thy stakes!

Allarga il luogo della tua tenda e si spieghino le tele delle tue dimore, senza risparmio; allunga i tuoi cordami, rafforza i tuoi piuoli!

3 For on the right hand and on the left shalt thou burst forth with increase; And thy posterity shall inherit the nations, And people the desolate cities.

Poiché tu ti spanderai a destra ed a sinistra; la tua progenie possederà le nazioni e popolerà le città deserte.

4 Fear not, for thou shalt not be confounded; Blush not, for thou shalt not be put to shame. For thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, And the reproach of thy widowhood thou shalt remember no more.

Non temere, poiché tu non sarai più confusa; non aver vergogna, ché non avrai più da arrossire; ma dimenticherai l’onta della tua giovinezza, e non ricorderai più l’obbrobrio della tua vedovanza.

5 For thy husband is thy Maker; Jehovah of hosts is his name. Thy redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Poiché il tuo creatore è il tuo sposo; il suo nome è: l’Eterno degli eserciti; e il tuo redentore è il Santo d’Israele, che sarà chiamato l’Iddio di tutta la terra.

6 For as a woman forsaken, and deeply afflicted, hath Jehovah recalled thee, And as a wife wedded in youth, that hath been rejected, saith thy God.

Poiché l’Eterno ti richiama come una donna abbandonata e afflitta nel suo spirito, come la sposa della giovinezza ch’è stata ripudiata, dice il tuo Dio.

7 For a little moment I have forsaken thee, But with great mercy will I gather thee.

Per un breve istante io t’ho abbandonata, ma con immensa compassione io ti raccoglierò.

8 In overflowing wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment. But with everlasting kindness will I have mercy upon thee, Saith thy redeemer, Jehovah.

In un accesso d’ira, t’ho per un momento nascosta la mia faccia, ma con un amore eterno io avrò pietà di te, dice l’Eterno, il tuo redentore.

9 As in the time of the waters of Noah, so shall it be now; As I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, So do I swear that I will not be angry with thee, nor rebuke thee.

Avverrà per me come delle acque di Noè; poiché, come giurai che le acque di Noè non si spanderebbero più sopra la terra, così io giuro di non più irritarmi contro di te, e di non minacciarti più.

10 For the mountains shall depart, And the hills be overthrown, But my kindness shall not depart from thee, Nor shall my covenant of peace be overthrown, Saith Jehovah, that hath pity on thee.

Quand’anche i monti s’allontanassero e i colli fossero rimossi, l’amor mio non s’allontanerà da te, né il mio patto di pace sarà rimosso, dice l’Eterno, che ha pietà di te.

11 O thou afflicted, beaten with the storm, destitute of consolation! Behold, I lay thy stones in cement of vermilion, And thy foundations with sapphires.

O afflitta, sbattuta dalla tempesta, sconsolata, ecco, io incasserò le tue pietre nell’antimonio, e ti fonderò sopra zaffiri.

12 And I will make thy battlements of rubies, And thy gates of carbuncles, And all thy borders fill of precious stones.

Farò i tuoi merli di rubini, le tue porte di carbonchi, e tutto il tuo recinto di pietre preziose.

13 All thy children shall be taught by Jehovah, And great shall be the prosperity of thy children.

Tutti i tuoi figliuoli saran discepoli dell’Eterno, e grande sarà la pace dei tuoi figliuoli.

14 By righteousness shalt thou be established; Be thou far from anxiety, for thou shalt have nothing to fear, And from terror, for it shall not come near thee.

Tu sarai stabilita fermamente mediante la giustizia; sarai lungi dall’oppressione, ché non avrai niente da temere; e dalla ruina, ché non si accosterà a te.

15 If any be leagued against thee, it is not by my command; Whoever shall be leagued against thee shall come over to thee.

Ecco, potranno far delle leghe; ma senza di me. Chiunque farà lega contro di te, cadrà dinanzi a te.

16 Behold, I create the smith, Who bloweth up the coals into a fire, And produceth an instrument for his work; I also create the destroyer to lay waste.

Ecco, io ho creato il fabbro che soffia nel fuoco sui carboni e ne trae uno strumento per il suo lavoro; ed io pure ho creato il devastatore per distruggere.

17 Whatever weapon is formed against thee, it shall not prosper; And against every tongue that contendeth with thee, thou shalt obtain thy cause. This is the inheritance of the servants of Jehovah, And the blessing which they receive from me, saith Jehovah.

Nessun’arma fabbricata contro di te riuscirà; e ogni lingua che sorgerà in giudizio contro di te, tu la condannerai. Tal è l’eredità dei servi dell’Eterno, e la giusta ricompensa che verrà loro da me, dice l’Eterno.
