Isaiah 42
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, My chosen, in whom my soul delighteth, I have put my spirit upon him; He shall cause law to go forth to the nations.
Eis aqui o meu Servo, a quem sustenho, o meu Eleito, em quem se apraz a minha alma; puz o meu espirito sobre elle; juizo produzirá aos gentios.
2 He shall not cry aloud, nor lift up his voice, Nor cause it to be heard in the street.
Não clamará, nem alçará a sua voz, nem fará ouvir a sua voz na praça.
3 The bruised reed shall he not break, And the glimmering flax shall he not quench; He shall send forth law according to truth.
A canna trilhada não quebrará, nem apagará o pavio que fumega: com verdade produzirá o juizo;
4 He shall not fail, nor become weary, Until he shall have established justice in the earth. And distant nations shall wait for his law.
Não se encobrirá, nem será quebrantado, até que ponha na terra o juizo: e as ilhas aguardarão a sua doutrina.
5 Thus saith God Jehovah, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth, and that which springeth forth from it, Who gave breath to the people upon it, And spirit to them that walk thereon:
Assim diz Deus, o Senhor, que creou os céus, e os estendeu, e espraiou a terra, e a tudo quanto produz: que dá a respiração ao povo que habita n'ella, e o espirito aos que andam n'ella.
6 I, Jehovah, have called thee for salvation; I will hold thee by the hand; I will defend thee, and make thee a covenant to the people, A light to the nations;
Eu o Senhor te chamei em justiça, e te tomarei pela mão, e te guardarei, e te darei por concerto do povo, e para luz dos gentios;
7 To open the blind eyes, To bring out the prisoners from the prison, And them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.
Para abrir os olhos cegos, para tirar da prisão os presos, e da casa do carcere os que jazem em trevas.
8 I am Jehovah, that is my name; And my glory will I not give to another, Nor my praise to graven images.
Eu sou o Senhor; este é o meu nome; a minha gloria pois a outrem não darei, nem o meu louvor ás imagens de esculptura.
9 The former things, behold! they are come to pass, And new things do I now declare; Before they spring forth, I make them known to you.
Eis que as coisas d'antes já vieram, e as novas eu vos annuncio, e, antes que venham á luz, vol-as faço ouvir.
10 Sing to Jehovah a new song; His praise to the ends of the earth; Ye that go down upon the sea, and all that fill it; Ye distant coasts, and ye that dwell therein!
Cantae ao Senhor um cantico novo, e o seu louvor desde o fim da terra: como tambem vós os que navegaes pelo mar, e tudo quanto ha n'ella; vós, ilhas, e seus habitadores.
11 Let the desert cry aloud, and the cities thereof; The villages, that Kedar inhabiteth; Let the inhabitants of the rock sing; Let them shout from the top of the mountains!
Alcem a voz o deserto e as suas cidades, com as aldeias que Kedar habita: exultem os que habitam nas rochas, e clamem do cume dos montes.
12 Let them give glory to Jehovah, And proclaim his praise in distant lands!
Dêem a gloria ao Senhor, e annunciem o seu louvor nas ilhas.
13 Jehovah shall march forth like a hero; Like a mighty warrior shall he rouse his indignation, He shall cry aloud; he shall shout the war-cry, And show himself mighty against his enemies.
O Senhor como valente sairá, como homem de guerra despertará o zelo: exultará, e fará grande arruido, e sujeitará a seus inimigos.
14 “I have long held my peace; I have been still and refrained myself; But now will I cry like a woman in travail; I will destroy and swallow up at once.
Já ha muito me calei; estive posto em silencio, e me retive: darei gritos como a que está de parto, e a todos os assolarei e juntamente devorarei.
15 I will lay waste mountains and hills, And dry up all their herbs. I will make the river solid land, And dry up the pools of water.
Os montes e outeiros tornarei em deserto, e toda a sua herva farei seccar, e tornarei os rios em ilhas, e as lagoas seccarei.
16 Then will I lead the blind in a way which they know not, And in unknown paths will I guide them; I will make darkness light before them, And crooked paths straight; These things will I do for them, and not forsake them.”
E guiarei os cegos pelo caminho que nunca conheceram, os farei caminhar pelas veredas que não conheceram: tornarei as trevas em luz perante elles, e as coisas tortas farei direitas. Estas coisas lhes farei, e nunca os desampararei.
17 Then shall they be turned back, and be put to shame, Who trust in graven images; Who say to molten images, “Ye are our gods!”
Mas serão tornados atraz e confundir-se-hão de vergonha os que confiam em imagens de esculptura, e dizem ás imagens de fundição: Vós sois nossos deuses.
18 Hear, O ye deaf! And look, ye blind, and see!
Surdos, ouvi, e vós, cegos, olhae, para que possaes ver.
19 Who is blind, if not my servant? And who so deaf as my messenger, whom I send? Who so blind as the friend of God, So blind as the servant of Jehovah?
Quem é cego, senão o meu servo, ou surdo como o meu mensageiro, a quem envio? e quem é cego como o perfeito, e cego como o servo do Senhor?
20 Thou seest many things, but regardest them not; Thou hast thine ears open, but hearest not!
Bem vêdes vós muitas coisas, porém vós as não guardaes: ainda que abre os ouvidos, comtudo nada ouve
21 It pleased Jehovah for his goodness' sake To give him a law, great and glorious;
O Senhor se agradava d'elle por amor da sua justiça: engrandeceu pela lei, e o fez glorioso.
22 And yet it is a robbed and plundered people; They are all of them bound in prisons, And hid in dungeons; They have become a spoil, and none delivereth; A prey, and none saith, “Restore!”
Porém este é um povo roubado e saqueado: todos estão enlaçados em cavernas, e escondidos nas casas dos carceres: são postos por preza, e ninguem ha que os livre, por despojo, e ninguem diz: Restitue.
23 Who is there among you that will give ear to this, That will listen and attend for the time to come?
Quem ha entre vós que ouça isto? que attenda e ouça o que ha de ser depois?
24 Who gave Jacob to be a spoil, And Israel to plunderers? Was it not Jehovah, against whom we sinned, In whose ways we would not walk, And whose laws we would not obey?
Quem entregou a Jacob por despojo, e a Israel aos roubadores? porventura não foi o Senhor, aquelle contra quem peccámos, e nos caminhos do qual não queriam andar e não davam ouvidos á sua lei?
25 Therefore hath he poured out upon Israel the fury of his wrath, and the violence of war; It kindled a flame around about him, yet he did not regard it; It set him on fire, yet he laid it not to heart.
Pelo que derramou sobre elles a indignação da sua ira, e a força da guerra, e lhes poz labaredas em redor: porém n'isso não attentaram; e os queimou, porém não pozeram n'isso o coração.
