< Isaiah 2 >
1 The word, which was revealed to Isaiah, the son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
The word which came to Esaias the son of Amos concerning Judea, and concerning Jerusalem.
2 It shall come to pass in the last days, That the mountain of the house of Jehovah shall be established at the head of the mountains, And exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow unto it.
For in the last days the mountain of the Lord shall be glorious, and the house of God [shall be] on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall come to it.
3 And many kingdoms shall go, and shall say, “Come, let us go to the mountain of Jehovah, To the house of the God of Jacob, That he may teach us his ways, And that we may walk in his paths!” For from Zion shall go forth a law, And the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.
And many nations shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will tell us his way, and we will walk in it: for out of Sion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.
4 He shall be a judge of the nations, And an umpire of many kingdoms; And they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, And their spears into pruning-hooks; Nation shall not lift up the sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war any more.
And he shall judge amongst the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into sickles: and nation shall not take up sword against nation, neither shall they learn to war any more.
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, And let us walk in the light of Jehovah!
And now, O house of Jacob, come, [and] let us walk in the light of the Lord.
6 For thou hast forsaken thy people, the house of Jacob, Because they are full of the East, And are sorcerers, like the Philistines, And strike hands with a foreign race!
For he has forsaken his people the house of Israel, because their land is filled as at the beginning with divinations, as the [land] of the Philistines, and many strange children were born to them.
7 Their land is full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots;
For their land is filled with silver and gold, and there was no number of their treasures; their land also is filled with horses, and there was no number of chariots.
8 Their land is full of idols; They bow down to the work of their own hands, To that which their own fingers have made.
And the land is filled with abominations, [even] the works of their hands; and they have worshipped [the works] which their fingers made.
9 Therefore shall the mean man be bowed down, And the great man be brought low; And thou wilt not forgive them!
And the mean man bowed down, and the great man was humbled: and I will not pardon them.
10 Go into the rock, hide yourselves in the dust, From the terror of Jehovah, and the glory of his majesty!
Now therefore enter you into the rocks, and hide yourselves in the earth, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.
11 The proud looks of man shall be humbled, And the loftiness of mortals shall be brought low; Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.
For the eyes of the Lord are high, but man is low; and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
12 For Jehovah of hosts holdeth a day of judgment Against all that is proud and lofty; Against all that is exalted, and it shall be brought low;
For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and haughty, and upon every one that is high and towering, and they shall be brought down;
13 Against all the cedars of Lebanon, the high and the exalted, And against all the oaks of Bashan;
and upon every cedar of Libanus, of them that are high and towering, and upon every oak of Basan,
14 Against all the lofty mountains, And against all the high hills;
and upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill,
15 Against every lofty tower, And against every high wall;
and upon every high tower, and upon every high wall,
16 Against all the ships of Tarshish, And against all their beautiful flags.
and upon every ship of the sea, and upon every display of fine ships.
17 The pride of man shall be humbled; The loftiness of mortals shall be brought low; Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.
And every man shall be brought low, and the pride of men shall fall: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
18 The idols shall wholly pass away;
And they shall hide all [idols] made with hands,
19 And men shall go into clefts of the rocks, and caves of the earth, From the terror of Jehovah, and the glory of his majesty, When he ariseth to make the earth tremble.
having carried [them] into the caves, and into the clefts of the rocks, and into the caverns of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.
20 At that time shall men cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, Which they have made to worship, To the moles and the bats;
For in that day a man shall cast forth his silver and gold abominations, which they made [in order] to worship vanities and bats;
21 Fleeing into caves of the rocks, and clefts of the craggy rocks, From the terror of Jehovah, and the glory of his majesty, When he ariseth to make the earth tremble.
to enter into the caverns of the solid rock, and into the clefts of the rocks, for fear of the Lord, and by reason of the glory of his might, when he shall arise to strike terribly the earth.
22 Trust, then, no more in man, Whose breath is in his nostrils! For what account is to be made of him!
