Hebrews 5
1 For every high-priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;
İnsanlar arasından seçilen her başkâhin, günahlara karşılık sunular ve kurbanlar sunmak üzere Tanrı'yla ilgili konularda insanları temsil etmek için atanır.
2 being able to be forbearing toward the ignorant and the erring, since he himself also is compassed with infirmity;
Bilgisizlere, yoldan sapanlara yumuşak davranabilir. Çünkü kendisi de zayıflıklarla kuşatılmıştır.
3 and by reason of this infirmity he must, as for the people, so also for himself, offer sacrifice for sins.
Bundan ötürü, halk için olduğu gibi, kendisi için de günah sunusu sunmak zorundadır.
4 And no one taketh this honor to himself, but when called by God, as was Aaron.
Kimse başkâhin olma onurunu kendi kendine alamaz; ancak Harun gibi, Tanrı tarafından çağrılırsa alır.
5 Thus Christ did not glorify himself to be made high-priest, but he who said to him, “Thou art my Son, I this day have begotten thee;”
Nitekim Mesih de başkâhin olmak için kendi kendini yüceltmedi. O'na, “Sen benim Oğlum'sun, Bugün ben sana Baba oldum” diyen Tanrı O'nu yüceltti.
6 as also he saith in another place, “Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek.” (aiōn g165)

7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears, to him that was able to save him from death, and was heard by reason of his godly reverence,
Mesih, yeryüzünde olduğu günlerde kendisini ölümden kurtaracak güçte olan Tanrı'ya büyük feryat ve gözyaşlarıyla dua etti, yakardı ve Tanrı korkusu nedeniyle işitildi.
8 though a son yet learned his obedience from what he suffered;
Oğul olduğu halde, çektiği acılarla söz dinlemeyi öğrendi.
9 and being perfected became the author of everlasting salvation to all who obey him, (aiōnios g166)

10 being addressed by God as high-priest after the order of Melchizedek.

11 Of whom we have much to say, and hard to be explained, seeing ye have become dull of hearing.

12 For while on account of the length of time ye ought to be teachers, ye again have need that some one should teach you the first elements of the oracles of God, and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.
Şimdiye dek öğretmen olmanız gerekirken, Tanrı sözlerinin temel ilkelerini size yeni baştan öğretecek birine ihtiyacınız var. Size yine süt gerekli, katı yiyecek değil!
13 For every one that feedeth on milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness; for he is a babe;
Sütle beslenen herkes bebektir ve doğruluk sözünde deneyimsizdir.
14 but solid food belongs to those who are of full age, who by use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Katı yiyecek, yetişkinler içindir; onlar duyularını iyi ile kötüyü ayırt etmek üzere alıştırmayla eğitmiş kişilerdir.
