Hebrews 4
1 Let us then fear, since a promise is still left us of entering into his rest, lest any one of you should appear to fail of obtaining it.
Boża obietnica, dotycząca dojścia na miejsce odpoczynku, jest nadal aktualna, ale uważajmy na siebie, aby ktoś z nas nie został w tyle.
2 For to us were glad tidings addressed, as well as to them; but the word which was heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Izraelici, podobnie jak my, usłyszeli dobrą nowinę, ale nie odnieśli z niej żadnego pożytku, ponieważ nie uwierzyli w nią.
3 For we who believed enter into the rest, as he hath said: “So I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest;” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
My natomiast dochodzimy do miejsca odpoczynku, ponieważ uwierzyliśmy w przekazaną nam dobrą nowinę. Bóg powiedział: „Rozgniewałem się i powiedziałem: Nie dotrą na miejsce, w którym przygotowałem im odpoczynek”. Słowa te zostały wypowiedziane przez Boga, mimo że miejsce odpoczynku było już przygotowane od początku świata.
4 For he hath spoken in a certain place of the seventh day thus: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;”
Gdzieś w Piśmie napisane jest bowiem, że w siódmym dniu stworzenia wszystko było już gotowe: „Siódmego dnia Bóg odpoczął po wykonaniu wszystkich swoich dzieł”.
5 and in this place again: “They shall not enter into my rest.”
To samo Pismo mówi potem: „Nie dotrą na miejsce, w którym przygotowałem im odpoczynek”.
6 Since then it still remaineth for some to enter into it, and they to whom the glad tidings of it were first brought did not enter in because of disobedience,
Niektórzy więc dotrą na miejsce odpoczynku, inni zaś, mimo że wcześniej słyszeli dobrą nowinę, nie doszli tam, ponieważ nie byli posłuszni Bogu.
7 he again appointeth a certain day, “To-day”—saying in David so long a time after, as hath before been said—”To-day, if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
Wiele wieków później, Bóg, przez usta króla Dawida, ponownie przekazał cytowane już wcześniej wezwanie: „Dziś, jeśli usłyszycie głos Boga, nie stawiajcie Mu oporu”.
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not after this be speaking of another day.
Gdyby to Jozue doprowadził Izraelitów do miejsca odpoczynku, to wiele lat później Bóg nie mówiłby przecież o kolejnym miejscu odpoczynku.
9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath-rest to the people of God.
Istnieje jednak prawdziwe miejsce odpoczynku, które Bóg przygotował dla swojego ludu.
10 For he that hath entered into his rest, hath himself rested from his works, as God did from his own.
Kto dochodzi tam, odpoczywa po swojej pracy, podobnie jak Bóg odpoczywał po ukończeniu dzieła stworzenia.
11 Let us then strive to enter into that rest, that no one may fall, as a like example of disobedience.
Starajmy się więc tam dotrzeć i nie bierzmy przykładu z nieposłuszeństwa Izraelitów.
12 For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, both the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart;
Słowo Boże jest bowiem żywe, skuteczne w działaniu i ostrzejsze niż obosieczny miecz. Przenika ono naszą duszę, ducha, myśli i uczucia oraz odsłania nasze prawdziwe motywy oraz pragnienia serca.
13 and there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and laid open to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Nikt nie jest w stanie ukryć się przed Bogiem. Stojąc przed Jego obliczem, każdy jest bowiem nagi i bezbronny. Przed Nim odpowiemy za wszystko, co uczyniliśmy.
14 Since, then, we have a great high-priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Jezus, Syn Boży, wstąpił do nieba i jest naszym najwyższym kapłanem. Skoro mamy więc tak wspaniałego kapłana, niezachwianie trzymajmy się naszego wyznania wiary!
15 For we have not a high-priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who hath in all points been tempted as we are, without sin.
Chrystus, nasz kapłan, potrafi dobrze nas zrozumieć, gdy czujemy się bezradni. Będąc na ziemi, doświadczył bowiem wszystkich ludzkich trudności—z jednym wyjątkiem: nigdy nie popełnił grzechu!
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Dlatego z otwartym sercem biegnijmy pod tron Tego, którzy obdarza ludzi łaską, a doświadczymy tam Bożej miłości i znajdziemy pomoc w naszych trudnościach.
