Hebrews 4
1 Let us then fear, since a promise is still left us of entering into his rest, lest any one of you should appear to fail of obtaining it.
Seega kartkem, kuni tõotus pääseda Jumala hingamisse veel kehtib, et keegi teist ei osutuks hiljaks jäänuks.
2 For to us were glad tidings addressed, as well as to them; but the word which was heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Sest meile on kuulutatud evangeeliumi nii nagu neilegi, kuid neil polnud kasu sellest sõnast, mis nad kuulsid, sest nad ei võtnud seda vastu usus.
3 For we who believed enter into the rest, as he hath said: “So I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest;” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Meie aga, kes oleme uskunud, astume Jumala hingamisse, nii nagu ta on öelnud: „Nii ma vandusin oma vihas: „Iial ei saa nad minu hingamisse!““– ehkki tema tööd on lõpetatud maailma loomisest peale.
4 For he hath spoken in a certain place of the seventh day thus: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;”
Sest nagu kusagil Pühakirjas on öeldud seitsmenda päeva kohta: „Seitsmendal päeval Jumal puhkas kõigist oma töödest.“
5 and in this place again: “They shall not enter into my rest.”
Selles kirjakohas aga: „Iial ei saa nad minu hingamisse!“
6 Since then it still remaineth for some to enter into it, and they to whom the glad tidings of it were first brought did not enter in because of disobedience,
Seepärast aga, et mõned siiski lastakse sisse ja kuna need, kellele evangeeliumi esmalt kuulutati, ei ole sinna sisse saanud sõnakuulmatuse pärast,
7 he again appointeth a certain day, “To-day”—saying in David so long a time after, as hath before been said—”To-day, if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
määrab Jumal veel ühe päeva, nimetades seda „täna“, öeldes palju aega hiljem Taaveti kaudu, nagu juba varem on öeldud: „Täna, kui te kuulete tema häält, ärge tehke oma südant kõvaks!“
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not after this be speaking of another day.
Sest kui Joosua oleks nad viinud hingamisse, siis Jumal ei oleks rääkinud hiljem ühest teisest päevast.
9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath-rest to the people of God.
Järelikult on Jumala rahva hingamisaeg alles ees.
10 For he that hath entered into his rest, hath himself rested from his works, as God did from his own.
Igaüks, kes tema hingamisse siseneb, see hingab oma tegudest, nii nagu Jumal oma tegudest.
11 Let us then strive to enter into that rest, that no one may fall, as a like example of disobedience.
Püüdkem siis igati sellesse hingamisse pääseda, et keegi ei langeks samasuguse sõnakuulmatuse läbi!
12 For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, both the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart;
Sest Jumala sõna on elav ja tõhus ja vahedam kui ükski kaheterane mõõk. Ta tungib nii sügavale, kuni lõhestab hinge ja vaimu, liigesed ja üdi, ning mõistab kohut südame mõtete ja soovide üle.
13 and there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and laid open to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Ükski loodu ei saa Jumala pilgu ees peituda, vaid kõik on alasti ja avatud tema silmade ees, kellele me peame aru andma.
14 Since, then, we have a great high-priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Et meil nüüd on suur ülempreester Jeesus, Jumala Poeg, kes on läbinud taevad, siis hoidkem kinni sellest usust, mida me tunnistame!
15 For we have not a high-priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who hath in all points been tempted as we are, without sin.
Sest meil pole selline ülempreester, kes ei suudaks meile kaasa tunda meie nõrkustes, vaid ta on olnud kiusatud igal viisil nagu meie, ja siiski ilma patuta.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Seepärast mingem siis julgusega Jumala armutrooni ette, et saaksime halastust ja leiaksime armu, mis aitab meid õigel ajal.
