Daniel 1
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, against Jerusalem, and besieged it.
যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের রাজত্বের তৃতীয় বছরে ব্যাবিলনের রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার জেরুশালেমে এসে নগর অবরোধ করলেন।
2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
আর প্রভু, যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীম এবং ঈশ্বরের মন্দিরের কিছু মূল্যবান পাত্র রাজা নেবুখাদনেজারের হাতে সঁপে দিলেন। এবং নেবুখাদনেজার সেই মূল্যবান পাত্রগুলি নিয়ে ব্যাবিলনে তার দেবতার মন্দিরে গেলেন ও দেবতার ভাণ্ডার ঘরে রাখলেন।
3 And the king commanded Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the sons of Israel of the king's race, and of the princes,
তারপর রাজা তার কর্মচারীদের প্রধান অস্পনসকে ইস্রায়েলী বন্দিদের মধ্যে থেকে রাজবংশ ও উচ্চবংশের এমন কয়েকজন যুবককে বাছাই করতে বললেন,
4 youths in whom was no blemish, and well favored, and skilful in all wisdom, and having knowledge and intelligence and strength, to stand as servants in the king's palace, and be taught the writing and the language of the Chaldaeans.
যাদের কোনো শারীরিক খুঁত থাকবে না, তারা সুদর্শন, সমস্ত বিষয় শিখতে আগ্রহী, বিচক্ষণ, জ্ঞানে নিপুণ এবং রাজপ্রাসাদে থাকবার যোগ্য হবে; আর তিনি তাদের ব্যাবিলনীয়দের ভাষা ও সাহিত্য শিক্ষা দেবেন।
5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank; so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand as servants before the king.
রাজা নিজের আহারের খাদ্য ও পানীয় দ্রাক্ষারস থেকে তাদের জন্য প্রতিদিনের অংশ দিতে আদেশ দিলেন। এইভাবে তাদের তিন বছর প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হবে এবং সেই সময়ের শেষে তারা রাজকাজে নিযুক্ত হবে।
6 Now among these were, of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
বাছাই করা এই যুবকদের মধ্যে যিহূদা বংশের দানিয়েল, হনানিয়, মীশায়েল ও অসরিয় ছিলেন।
7 And the prince of the eunuchs gave them other names. To Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
কর্মচারীদের প্রধান তাদের নতুন নাম দিলেন; দানিয়েলকে বেল্টশৎসর, হনানিয়কে শদ্রক, মীশায়েলকে মৈশক এবং অসরিয়কে অবেদনগো।
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
কিন্তু দানিয়েল স্থির করলেন রাজার দেওয়া খাদ্য ও পানীয় দ্রাক্ষারস গ্রহণ করে তিনি নিজেকে অশুচি করবেন না এবং তিনি এইভাবে নিজেকে অশুচি না করার বিষয়ে কর্মচারীদের প্রধানের অনুমতি চাইলেন।
9 And God gave Daniel favor and kindness from the prince of the eunuchs.
ঈশ্বর সেই প্রধান কর্মচারীর কাছে দানিয়েলকে দয়া ও করুণার পাত্র করলেন।
10 And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink; for he might see your faces in worse condition than the youths of your age; then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
কিন্তু সেই প্রধান কর্মচারী দানিয়েলকে বললেন, “আমি আমার প্রভু মহারাজকে ভয় করি, তিনিই তোমাদের খাদ্য ও পানীয় নিরূপণ করেছেন। অন্য সমবয়স্ক যুবকদের থেকে কেন তিনি তোমাদের রুগ্ন দেখবেন? তখন তোমাদের জন্য রাজা আমার গলা কেটে নেবেন।”
11 Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
সেই সময় দানিয়েল, হনানিয়, মীশায়েল ও অসরিয়কে দেখাশোনার দায়িত্ব কর্মচারীদের প্রধান যে প্রহরীকে দিয়েছিলেন, দানিয়েল তাকে বললেন,
12 Try thy servants ten days, and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
“আপনি অনুগ্রহ করে দশদিন আপনার দাসদের পরীক্ষা করুন এবং আমাদের শুধুমাত্র সবজি ও জল খেতে দিন।
13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the youths that eat of the portion of the king's meat; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
তারপর রাজপ্রাসাদের অন্য যুবকেরা, যারা রাজকীয় খাদ্য ও পানীয় গ্রহণ করবে, তাদের চেহারার সঙ্গে আমাদের মিলিয়ে দেখুন এবং সেই অনুসারে আপনার দাসদের প্রতি যথাযথ ব্যবস্থা নিন।”
14 And he consented to them in this matter, and tried them ten days.
একথায় সেই প্রহরী রাজি হলেন ও তাদের দশদিন পরীক্ষা করলেন।
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the portion of the king's meat.
দশদিন পরে যারা রাজকীয় খাদ্য ও পানীয় গ্রহণ করেছিল তাদের থেকে এই চারজনকে বেশি স্বাস্থ্যবান ও হৃষ্টপুষ্ট দেখা গেল।
16 So the steward took away the portion of their meat, and the wine which they should drink, and gave them pulse.
তাই সেই প্রহরী রাজকীয় খাদ্য ও পানীয় দ্রাক্ষারসের পরিবর্তে তাদের শুধু সবজি খেতে দিলেন।
17 And God gave these four youths knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
ঈশ্বর এই চারজন যুবককে সমস্ত গ্রন্থে ও বিদ্যায়, জ্ঞান ও পারদর্শিতা দিলেন। আর দানিয়েল সমস্ত দর্শন ও স্বপ্ন বুঝে ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারতেন।
18 And at the end of the days, when the king had commanded him to bring them before him, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
রাজার নির্ধারিত সময়ের শেষে কর্মচারীদের প্রধান এই যুবকদের নেবুখাদনেজারের কাছে উপস্থিত করলেন।
19 And the king conversed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood as servants before the king.
রাজা তাদের সঙ্গে কথা বললেন এবং দানিয়েল, হনানিয়, মীশায়েল ও অসরিয়দের সমতুল্য কাউকে পেলেন না; তাই তারা রাজার সেবা করতে শুরু করলেন।
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the scribes and magicians that were in all his realm.
সমস্ত রকম জ্ঞান ও বিচারবুদ্ধির বিষয়ে রাজা দেখলেন যে রাজ্যের সমস্ত মন্ত্রবেত্তা ও মায়াবীদের চেয়ে তারা দশগুণ বেশি বিচক্ষণ ও দূরদৃষ্টি সম্পন্ন ছিলেন।
21 And Daniel lived even to the first year of Cyrus the king.
এবং দানিয়েল রাজা কোরসের রাজত্বের প্রথম বছর পর্যন্ত রাজসভায় ছিলেন।
