Amos 1
1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa, which he prophesied concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earth quake. He said: —
Verba Amos, qui fuit in pastoralibus Thecue: quae vidit super Israel in diebus Oziae regis Iuda, et in diebus Ieroboam filii Ioas regis Israel, ante duos annos terraemotus.
2 Jehovah will roar from Zion, And utter his voice from Jerusalem; The habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, And the top of Carmel shall wither.
Et dixit: Dominus de Sion rugiet, et de Ierusalem dabit vocem suam: et luxerunt speciosa pastorum, et exiccatus est vertex Carmeli.
3 Thus saith Jehovah; For three transgressions of Damascus, And for four, will I not turn away its punishment; For they thrashed Gilead with thrashing-wains of iron.
Haec dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Damasci, et super quattuor non convertam eum: eo quod trituraverint in plaustris ferreis Galaad.
4 I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, Which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
Et mittam ignem in domum Azael, et devorabit domos Benadad.
5 I will also break the bar of Damascus, And I will destroy the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, And him that holdeth the sceptre from Beth-Eden, And the people of Syria shall be led captive to Kir: Jehovah hath said it.
Et conteram vectem Damasci: et disperdam habitatorem de campo idoli, et tenentem sceptrum de domo voluptatis: et transferetur populus Syriae Cyrenen, dicit Dominus.
6 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gaza, And for four, I will not turn away its punishment; For they led captive all that fell into their hands, And delivered them up to Edom.
Haec dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Gazae, et super quattuor non convertam eum: eo quod transtulerint captivitatem perfectam, ut concluderent eam in Idumaea.
7 But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, Which shall devour her palaces.
Et mittam ignem in murum Gazae, et devorabit aedes eius.
8 And I will destroy the inhabitant from Ashdod, And him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; And I will turn my hand against Ekron, And the residue of the Philistines shall perish. The Lord, Jehovah, hath said it.
Et disperdam habitatorem de Azoto, et tenentem sceptrum de Ascalone: et convertam manum meam super Accaron, et peribunt reliqui Philisthinorum, dicit Dominus Deus.
9 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, And for four, will I not turn away its punishment; Because they delivered up all their captives to Edom, And remembered not the brotherly covenant.
Haec dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Tyri, et super quattuor non convertam eum: eo quod concluserint captivitatem perfectam in Idumaea, et non sint recordati foederis fratrum.
10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, Which shall devour her palaces.
Et mittam ignem in murum Tyri, et devorabit aedes eius.
11 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, And for four, will I not turn away his punishment; For he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity, And his anger tore perpetually; Yea, he kept his wrath forever.
Haec dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus Edom, et super quattuor non convertam eum: eo quod persecutus sit in gladio fratrem suum, et violaverit misericordiam eius, et tenuerit ultra furorem suum, et indignationem suam servaverit usque in finem.
12 But I will send a fire upon Teman. Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
Mittam ignem in Theman: et devorabit aedes Bosrae.
13 Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, And for four, will I not turn away their punishment; For they ripped up the women with child of Gilead, That they might enlarge their border.
Haec dicit Dominus: Super tribus sceleribus filiorum Ammon, et super quattuor non convertam eum: eo quod dissecuerit praegnantes Galaad ad dilatandum terminum suum.
14 But I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, Which shall devour her palaces, Amid the war-shout in the day of battle, In a whirlwind in the day of the storm.
Et succendam ignem in muro Rabbath: et devorabit aedes eius in ululatu in die belli, et in turbine in die commotionis.
15 Their king shall go into captivity, He and his princes together, saith Jehovah.
Et ibit Melchom in captivitatem, ipse, et principes eius simul, dicit Dominus.
