Acts 1
1 The former narrative I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus both did and taught from the beginning
Dans mon premier livre, ô Théophile, j'ai parlé de tout ce que Jésus a fait et enseigné depuis le commencement,
2 until the day in which, after he had through the Holy Spirit given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up;
jusqu'au jour où il fut élevé dans le ciel, après avoir donné ses ordres, par le Saint-Esprit, aux apôtres qu'il avait choisis.
3 to whom also he showed himself living, after he had suffered, by many sure proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
Il leur était apparu vivant, après avoir souffert; et il leur avait donné plusieurs preuves de sa résurrection, se faisant voir à eux pendant quarante jours et leur parlant de ce qui concerne le royaume de Dieu.
4 And while in assembly with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for what had been promised by the Father, which [[said he]] ye heard from me;
Comme il se trouvait avec eux, il leur recommanda de ne point partir de Jérusalem, mais d'y attendre que fût accomplie la promesse du Père, celle dont je vous ai parlé, — leur disait-il;
5 for John indeed baptized with water, but ye will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
— car Jean a baptisé d'eau, mais vous, vous serez baptisés du Saint-Esprit dans peu de jours.
6 They therefore, having come together, asked him, saying, Lord, art thou at this time about to restore the kingdom to Israel?
Ceux donc qui étaient là réunis lui demandèrent: Seigneur, est-ce dans ce temps-là que tu rétabliras le royaume d'Israël?
7 But he said to them, It belongeth not to you to know times or seasons, which the Father appointed by his own authority.
Il leur répondit: Ce n'est pas à vous de connaître les temps ou les moments que le Père a fixés de sa propre autorité.
8 But ye will receive power when the Holy Spirit hath come upon you; and ye will be my witnesses, both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Mais vous recevrez la vertu du Saint-Esprit, qui descendra sur vous; et vous serez mes témoins, tant à Jérusalem que dans toute la Judée et la Samarie, et jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
9 And having thus spoken, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Après avoir prononcé ces paroles, il fut enlevé, pendant qu'ils le regardaient, et une nuée le déroba à leurs yeux.
10 And while they were looking earnestly into heaven as he went up, lo! two men stood by them in white apparel,
Et comme ils avaient les regards attachés au ciel, pendant qu'il s'en allait, voici que deux hommes, en vêtements blancs, se présentèrent devant eux,
11 who said, Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This Jesus, who hath been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner in which ye beheld him going into heaven.
et leur dirent: Hommes de Galilée, pourquoi vous arrêtez-vous à regarder au ciel? Ce Jésus, qui a été enlevé du milieu de vous dans le ciel, en reviendra de la même manière que vous l'y avez vu monter.
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, within a sabbath-day's journey.
Alors ils retournèrent à Jérusalem, de la montagne, appelée montagne des Oliviers, qui est près de Jérusalem, à la distance d'un chemin de sabbat.
13 And when they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were making their abode, namely, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the zealot, and Judas the brother of James.
Quand ils furent arrivés, ils montèrent dans la chambre haute, où se tenaient d'ordinaire Pierre, Jean, Jacques et André, Philippe et Thomas, Barthélémy et Matthieu, Jacques, fils d'Alphée, Simon le zélote, et Jude, fils de Jacques.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer, with women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Tous ceux-là persévéraient d'un commun accord dans la prière, avec les femmes, avec Marie, mère de Jésus, et avec ses frères.
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said, (the number of the names together was about one hundred and twenty, )
En ces jours-là, Pierre se leva au milieu des frères, — qui étaient assemblés au nombre d'environ cent-vingt, — et il dit:
16 Brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus.
Mes frères, il fallait que fût accompli ce que le Saint-Esprit a prédit dans l'Écriture, par la bouche de David, au sujet de Judas, qui a été le guide de ceux qui ont arrêté Jésus.
17 For he was numbered among us, and obtained the allotment of this ministry.
Car il était l'un des nôtres, et il avait reçu sa part de notre ministère.
18 Now this man purchased a field with the wages of the iniquity; and falling headlong he burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out.
Cet homme, après avoir acheté un champ avec le salaire de son crime, est tombé en avant, son corps s'est ouvert par le milieu, et toutes ses entrailles se sont répandues.
19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field is called in their own tongue, Aceldamach, that is, Field of Blood.
— Cela est si bien connu de tous les habitants de Jérusalem, que ce champ est appelé, dans leur langue, Haceldama, c'est-à-dire: le champ du sang. —
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, “Let his habitation be made desolate, and let no one dwell therein;” and, “Let another take his office.”
Aussi est-il écrit dans le livre des Psaumes: «Que sa demeure devienne déserte, et qu'il n'y ait personne qui l'habite»; et encore: «Qu'un autre prenne sa charge.»
21 Of these men, therefore, who accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Il faut donc que, parmi les hommes qui nous ont accompagnés pendant tout le temps que le Seigneur Jésus a vécu avec nous,
22 from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us, must one be made a witness with us of his resurrection.
depuis le baptême de Jean jusqu'au jour où il a été enlevé du milieu de nous, il y en ait un qui soit témoin avec nous de sa résurrection.
23 And they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
Ils en présentèrent deux: Joseph, dit Barsabas, surnommé Justus, et Matthias.
24 And they prayed saying, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which of these two thou hast chosen
Puis ils firent cette prière: Seigneur, toi qui connais les coeurs de tous, montre-nous lequel de ces deux hommes tu as choisi,
25 to take the part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell away, that he might go to his own place.
pour occuper, dans ce ministère de l'apostolat, la place que Judas a abandonnée pour s'en aller en son lieu.
26 And they cast lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Ensuite ils tirèrent au sort; et le sort tomba sur Matthias, qui fut associé aux onze apôtres.
