Acts 1
1 The former narrative I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus both did and taught from the beginning
Le premier livre que j'ai écrit, Théophile, concerne tout ce que Jésus a commencé à faire et à enseigner,
2 until the day in which, after he had through the Holy Spirit given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up;
jusqu'au jour où il a été reçu, après avoir donné ses ordres par le Saint-Esprit aux apôtres qu'il avait choisis.
3 to whom also he showed himself living, after he had suffered, by many sure proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
C'est à eux aussi qu'il s'est montré vivant après avoir souffert, par de nombreuses preuves, en leur apparaissant pendant quarante jours et en leur parlant du royaume de Dieu.
4 And while in assembly with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for what had been promised by the Father, which [[said he]] ye heard from me;
Puis, s'étant réuni avec eux, il leur donna cet ordre: Ne partez pas de Jérusalem, mais attendez la promesse du Père, que vous avez entendue de ma part.
5 for John indeed baptized with water, but ye will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
En effet, Jean a baptisé dans l'eau, mais vous, dans peu de jours, vous serez baptisés dans l'Esprit Saint. »
6 They therefore, having come together, asked him, saying, Lord, art thou at this time about to restore the kingdom to Israel?
C'est pourquoi, s'étant réunis, ils lui demandèrent: « Seigneur, est-ce maintenant que tu rétablis le royaume d'Israël? »
7 But he said to them, It belongeth not to you to know times or seasons, which the Father appointed by his own authority.
Il leur dit: « Ce n'est pas à vous de connaître les temps et les moments que le Père a fixés de son propre chef.
8 But ye will receive power when the Holy Spirit hath come upon you; and ye will be my witnesses, both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Mais vous recevrez une puissance, lorsque le Saint-Esprit sera descendu sur vous. Vous serez mes témoins à Jérusalem, dans toute la Judée et la Samarie, et jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. »
9 And having thus spoken, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Après avoir dit ces choses, comme ils regardaient, il fut enlevé, et une nuée le déroba à leurs yeux.
10 And while they were looking earnestly into heaven as he went up, lo! two men stood by them in white apparel,
Comme ils regardaient fixement le ciel pendant qu'il s'en allait, voici, deux hommes en vêtements blancs se tenaient près d'eux.
11 who said, Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This Jesus, who hath been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner in which ye beheld him going into heaven.
Ils dirent aussi: Hommes de Galilée, pourquoi restez-vous là à regarder le ciel? Ce Jésus, qui a été enlevé d'entre vous dans le ciel, reviendra de la même manière que vous l'avez vu aller dans le ciel. »
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, within a sabbath-day's journey.
Puis ils retournèrent à Jérusalem, de la montagne appelée oliviers, qui est près de Jérusalem, à une distance d'un jour de sabbat.
13 And when they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were making their abode, namely, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the zealot, and Judas the brother of James.
Après leur arrivée, ils montèrent dans la chambre haute où ils séjournaient, c'est-à-dire Pierre, Jean, Jacques, André, Philippe, Thomas, Barthélemy, Matthieu, Jacques, fils d'Alphée, Simon le Zélote, et Judas, fils de Jacques.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer, with women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Tous ceux-là, d'un commun accord, persévéraient dans la prière et la supplication, ainsi que les femmes, Marie, mère de Jésus, et ses frères.
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said, (the number of the names together was about one hundred and twenty, )
En ces jours-là, Pierre se leva au milieu des disciples (dont le nombre était d'environ cent vingt), et dit:
16 Brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus.
Frères, il fallait que s'accomplît cette Écriture, que le Saint-Esprit avait déjà annoncée par la bouche de David au sujet de Judas, qui servait de guide à ceux qui avaient pris Jésus.
17 For he was numbered among us, and obtained the allotment of this ministry.
Car il a été compté parmi nous, et il a reçu sa part dans ce ministère.
18 Now this man purchased a field with the wages of the iniquity; and falling headlong he burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out.
Or, cet homme s'est procuré un champ avec la récompense de sa méchanceté; et, tombant la tête la première, son corps s'est ouvert et tous ses intestins ont jailli.
19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field is called in their own tongue, Aceldamach, that is, Field of Blood.
Tous les habitants de Jérusalem apprirent que, dans leur langue, ce champ était appelé « Akeldama », c'est-à-dire « champ du sang ».
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, “Let his habitation be made desolate, and let no one dwell therein;” and, “Let another take his office.”
Car il est écrit dans le livre des Psaumes, « Que sa demeure devienne déserte. Que personne n'y habite. et, « Laissez un autre prendre son poste.
21 Of these men, therefore, who accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
« Parmi les hommes qui nous ont accompagnés pendant tout le temps où le Seigneur Jésus est entré et sorti au milieu de nous,
22 from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us, must one be made a witness with us of his resurrection.
depuis le baptême de Jean jusqu'au jour où il a été reçu d'entre nous, il faut que l'un d'eux devienne avec nous témoin de sa résurrection. »
23 And they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
Ils en présentèrent deux: Joseph appelé Barsabbas, qu'on appelait aussi Justus, et Matthias.
24 And they prayed saying, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which of these two thou hast chosen
Ils prièrent et dirent: « Toi, Seigneur, qui connais le cœur de tous les hommes, montre lequel de ces deux-là tu as choisi
25 to take the part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell away, that he might go to his own place.
pour participer à ce ministère et à cet apostolat dont Judas s'est dépouillé, afin qu'il aille à sa place. »
26 And they cast lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
On tira au sort pour eux, et le sort tomba sur Matthias; il fut compté parmi les onze apôtres.
