Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Один чоловік, на ім’я Ананія, разом зі своєю дружиною Сапфірою продав свою земельну ділянку
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also having knowledge of it; and brought a certain part, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
й [частину] вартості ділянки залишив собі з відома своєї дружини. А решту грошей приніс та поклав до ніг апостолів.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why did Satan fill thy heart that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Spirit, and keep back part of the price of the land?
Тоді Петро сказав йому: «Ананіє, чому сатана наповнив твоє серце, щоб ти збрехав Святому Духові та залишив собі [частину] ціни ділянки?
4 While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why didst thou conceive this thing in thy heart? Thou didst not lie to men, but to God.
Чи не була вона твоєю до того, як ти її продав? І те, що ти отримав за продаж, чи не було у твоїй владі? Чому ти замислив цей вчинок у твоєму серці? Ти збрехав не людям, а Богові!»
5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all that heard of it.
Почувши ці слова, Ананія впав та помер. Великий страх охопив усіх, хто почув про це.
6 And the young men arose, and wrapt him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
Молоді люди підійшли, загорнули тіло, винесли та поховали його.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Через три години прийшла його дружина, яка не знала нічого про те, що сталося.
8 Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much.
Петро спитав її: ―Скажи мені, чи за таку ціну ви продали ділянку? ―Так, – відповіла вона, – за таку.
9 And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they will carry thee out.
Петро сказав їй: ―Чому ви змовилися між собою спокусити Духа Господнього? Чуєш кроки біля дверей? Це повертаються ті, що поховали твого чоловіка. Вони й тебе винесуть.
10 And she fell down immediately at his feet, and expired; and the young men, when they came in, found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.
Тієї ж миті вона впала біля його ніг і померла. Молоді люди, увійшовши, знайшли її мертвою. Тоді винесли й поховали її поряд із чоловіком.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon all that heard of these things.
Великий страх охопив усю церкву й всіх, хто чув про це.
12 And many signs and wonders were wrought among the people by the hands of the apostles; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
Руками апостолів у народі робилися чудеса та знамення. Усі збиралися разом у колонаді Соломона,
13 But of the rest no one dared to join himself to them. But the people highly honored them;
і ніхто зі сторонніх не мав сміливості приєднатися до них, хоча народ їх дуже поважав.
14 and more and more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;
А число тих, хто повірив у Господа, зростало – безліч чоловіків та жінок.
15 so that in the streets they brought out the sick, and laid them on beds and couches, in order that at least the shadow of Peter, as he passed, might overshadow some of them.
Люди виносили на вулиці хворих і клали на ліжка та килими, щоб хоч тінь Петра впала на них, коли він проходитиме.
16 The multitude also belonging to the cities around came together to Jerusalem bringing the sick, and those plagued by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
З навколишніх міст багато [людей] сходилося до Єрусалима, приносячи хворих і тих, кого мучили нечисті духи, і всі отримували зцілення.
17 But the high-priest and all that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with indignation,
Тоді первосвященник і всі, хто належав до угрупування садукеїв, переповнилися заздрощами й, піднявшись,
18 and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the public prison.
схопили апостолів та вкинули їх до громадської в’язниці.
19 But an angel of the Lord in the night opened the prison-doors, and brought them forth and said,
Але ангел Господа вночі відчинив двері в’язниці та, вивівши їх на вулицю, сказав їм:
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
«Ідіть у Храм, станьте там та говоріть народові всі слова цього [нового] життя».
21 And hearing this, they went into the temple at daybreak and taught. But the high-priest and they that were with him came and called together the council, and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Почувши це, вони вдосвіта зайшли в Храм та навчали людей. Тим часом первосвященник і всі, хто був разом із ним, скликали Синедріон і раду всіх старійшин із синів Ізраїлевих та надіслали до в’язниці привести апостолів.
22 But the officers that came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and brought word,
Але коли стражники прийшли, то не знайшли апостолів у в’язниці, й, повернувшись, повідомили про це,
23 saying, The prison we found shut in all security and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we opened them, we found no one within.
кажучи: «В’язницю ми знайшли надійно зачиненою, охорона була перед дверима, але коли ми відчинили, то всередині нікого не знайшли».
24 And when the priest, and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were at a loss concerning them, to what this would come.
Почувши ці слова, начальник храмової охорони та первосвященники дуже здивувались, як це могло статися.
25 But one came and brought them word, Lo! the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.
Аж тут прийшов хтось та сказав їм: «Ось люди, яких ви вкинули у в’язницю, стоять у Храмі та навчають народ».
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence, that they might not be stoned; for they feared the people.
Тоді начальник храмової охорони пішов зі стражниками та привів апостолів, але не силоміць, оскільки боялися, щоб народ не побив їх камінням.
27 And having brought them, they set them before the council. And the high-priest questioned them,
Апостолів привели та поставили перед Синедріоном, і первосвященник спитав їх:
28 saying, We strictly commanded you not to teach in this name, and lo! ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and mean to bring this man's blood upon us.
―Чи ми не наказали вам суворо не навчати в це ім’я? Ви ж наповнили Єрусалим своїм вченням і бажаєте зробити нас винними за кров Цієї Людини.
29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Петро та інші апостоли відповіли: ―Нам треба слухатися більше Бога, ніж людей!
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew by hanging him on a cross;
Бог наших батьків воскресив Ісуса, Якого ви вбили, розіп’явши на хресті.
31 him hath God exalted by his right hand, as a Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Його Бог возніс та поклав праворуч від Себе як Засновника та Спасителя, щоб дати Ізраїлеві покаяння та прощення гріхів.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit which God hath given to those who obey him.
Свідками цих слів є ми та Дух Святий, Якого Бог дав тим, хто підкоряється Йому.
33 But when they heard this, they were filled with rage, and were resolving to kill them.
Коли вони почули це, то розлютилися й хотіли їх убити.
34 But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, in high esteem with all the people, and commanded to put the men forth a little while,
Але один фарисей, на ім’я Гамалиїл, учитель Закону, якого поважав весь народ, піднявся в Синедріоні та наказав, щоб чоловіків вивели на деякий час.
35 and said to them [[of the council]], Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as to what ye are about to do in respect to these men.
Тоді промовив: «Ізраїльтяни, будьте уважні, що ви збираєтесь зробити цим людям.
36 For before these days arose Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and came to nought.
Адже нещодавно повстав Тевда, видаючи себе за когось великого; до нього приєдналося близько чотирьохсот чоловіків. Коли його було вбито, усі послідовники розійшлися, і все закінчилося нічим.
37 After this man arose Judas the Galilaean, in the days of the registering, and drew people away after him; he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
Після нього в дні перепису піднявся Юда з Галілеї й потягнув народ за собою. Він загинув, а всі його послідовники розсіялися.
38 And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this design or this work be of men, it will come to nought;
І зараз кажу вам: облиште цих людей та відпустіть їх. Якщо цей задум та справа від людей, вона зійде нанівець.
39 but if it be of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found also fighting against God.
Але якщо походить від Бога, то не зможете зупинити їх. Щоб часом не виявилось, що ви воюєте з Богом». Його слова переконали їх.
40 And they were persuaded by him; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
Вони покликали апостолів та, побивши їх, наказали їм ще раз не говорити в ім’я Ісуса та відпустили.
41 They therefore went away from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame in behalf of that name;
Апостоли залишили Синедріон, радіючи, що виявилися гідними перенести ганьбу за ім’я Ісуса.
42 and every day, in the temple, and in houses, they ceased not to teach, and to publish the glad tidings concerning Jesus the Christ.
Щодня в Храмі й по домах вони не переставали навчати та звіщати Добру Звістку, що Ісус є Христос.
