Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Men en mann ved navn Ananias og hans hustru Saffira solgte en eiendom,
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also having knowledge of it; and brought a certain part, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
og han stakk til side noget av pengene med sin hustrus vitende, og bar frem en del og la det for apostlenes føtter.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why did Satan fill thy heart that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Spirit, and keep back part of the price of the land?
Da sa Peter: Ananias! hvorfor har Satan fylt ditt hjerte, så du skulde lyve for den Hellige Ånd og stikke til side noget av pengene for akeren?
4 While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why didst thou conceive this thing in thy heart? Thou didst not lie to men, but to God.
Var den ikke din så lenge du hadde den, og var den ikke i din makt da den blev solgt? Hvorfor har du satt dig denne gjerning fore i ditt hjerte? Du har ikke løiet for mennesker, men for Gud.
5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all that heard of it.
Men da Ananias hørte disse ord, falt han om og opgav ånden. Og stor frykt kom over alle som hørte det;
6 And the young men arose, and wrapt him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
og de unge menn stod op og la ham til rette og bar ham ut og begravde ham.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Så gikk det omkring tre timer; da trådte hans hustru inn, uten å vite hvad som var skjedd.
8 Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much.
Peter tok da til orde og sa til henne: Si mig: Var det for denne pris I solgte akeren? Hun sa: Ja, for denne pris.
9 And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they will carry thee out.
Da sa Peter til henne: Hvorfor er I dog blitt enige om å friste Herrens Ånd? Se, deres føtter som har begravet din mann, er for døren, og de skal bære dig ut.
10 And she fell down immediately at his feet, and expired; and the young men, when they came in, found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.
Og straks falt hun om for hans føtter og opgav ånden, og da de unge menn kom inn, fant de henne død; og de bar henne ut og begravde henne hos hennes mann.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon all that heard of these things.
Og stor frykt kom over hele menigheten og over alle som hørte dette.
12 And many signs and wonders were wrought among the people by the hands of the apostles; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
Men det blev gjort mange tegn og undergjerninger blandt folket ved apostlenes hender, og de holdt alle samdrektig til i Salomos buegang.
13 But of the rest no one dared to join himself to them. But the people highly honored them;
Av de andre vågde ingen å holde sig til dem; men folket priste dem;
14 and more and more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;
og dess flere troende blev vunnet for Herren, menn og kvinner i hopetall,
15 so that in the streets they brought out the sick, and laid them on beds and couches, in order that at least the shadow of Peter, as he passed, might overshadow some of them.
så de endog bar de syke ut på gatene og la dem på senger og benker, forat endog bare skyggen av Peter kunde overskygge nogen av dem når han kom.
16 The multitude also belonging to the cities around came together to Jerusalem bringing the sick, and those plagued by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
Ja, også fra de omliggende byer kom de sammen i mengde til Jerusalem og førte med sig syke og folk som var plaget av urene ånder, og de blev alle helbredet.
17 But the high-priest and all that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with indignation,
Da stod ypperstepresten op og alle de som holdt med ham, det var sadduseernes parti, og de blev fulle av nidkjærhet
18 and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the public prison.
og la hånd på apostlene og kastet dem i det offentlige fengsel.
19 But an angel of the Lord in the night opened the prison-doors, and brought them forth and said,
Men en Herrens engel åpnet om natten fengslets dører og førte dem ut og sa:
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
Gå avsted, og stå frem og tal i templet alle dette livs ord for folket!
21 And hearing this, they went into the temple at daybreak and taught. But the high-priest and they that were with him came and called together the council, and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Da de hørte dette, gikk de mot dagningen inn i templet og lærte. Da nu ypperstepresten og hans følge kom, kalte de sammen rådet og alle Israels barns eldste, og sendte bud til fengslet for å hente dem.
22 But the officers that came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and brought word,
Men de tjenere som kom dit, fant dem ikke i fengslet; de kom da tilbake og meldte:
23 saying, The prison we found shut in all security and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we opened them, we found no one within.
Fengslet fant vi pålitelig lukket, og vaktmennene stod ved døren; men da vi lukket op, fant vi ingen der inne.
24 And when the priest, and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were at a loss concerning them, to what this would come.
Da høvedsmannen for tempelvakten og yppersteprestene hørte disse ord, visste de ikke hvad de skulde tenke om dem, og hvad dette skulde bli til.
25 But one came and brought them word, Lo! the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.
Da kom det en og meldte dem: Se, de menn som I kastet i fengsel, står i templet og lærer folket.
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence, that they might not be stoned; for they feared the people.
Da gikk høvedsmannen avsted med tjenerne og hentet dem, dog ikke med vold; for de fryktet for folket, at de skulde bli stenet.
27 And having brought them, they set them before the council. And the high-priest questioned them,
Og da de hadde hentet dem, stilte de dem for rådet, og ypperstepresten spurte dem og sa:
28 saying, We strictly commanded you not to teach in this name, and lo! ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and mean to bring this man's blood upon us.
Vi bød eder strengt at I ikke skulde lære i dette navn, og nu har I fylt Jerusalem med eders lære og vil føre dette menneskes blod over oss!
29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Da svarte Peter og apostlene: En skal lyde Gud mere enn mennesker.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew by hanging him on a cross;
Våre fedres Gud opvakte Jesus, som I drepte ved å henge ham på et tre;
31 him hath God exalted by his right hand, as a Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
ham ophøiet Gud ved sin høire hånd til høvding og frelser, for å gi Israel omvendelse og syndenes forlatelse.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit which God hath given to those who obey him.
Og vi er hans vidner om disse ting, og likeså den Hellige Ånd, som Gud gav dem som lyder ham.
33 But when they heard this, they were filled with rage, and were resolving to kill them.
Da de hørte dette, skar det dem i hjertet, og de la råd op om å slå dem ihjel.
34 But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, in high esteem with all the people, and commanded to put the men forth a little while,
Men det stod op en fariseer i rådet ved navn Gamaliel, en lovlærer som var høit aktet av hele folket, og han bød å føre mennene ut et øieblikk,
35 and said to them [[of the council]], Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as to what ye are about to do in respect to these men.
og han sa til dem: Israelittiske menn! Se eder vel for hvad I gjør med disse mennesker!
36 For before these days arose Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and came to nought.
For nogen tid siden fremstod Teudas, som sa sig å være noget, og omkring fire hundre menn slo sig sammen med ham; han blev drept, og alle de som lød ham, spredtes og blev til intet.
37 After this man arose Judas the Galilaean, in the days of the registering, and drew people away after him; he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
Efter ham fremstod Judas fra Galilea i skatteutskrivningens dager og forførte folket til å følge sig; også han omkom, og alle de som lød ham, blev spredt.
38 And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this design or this work be of men, it will come to nought;
Og nu sier jeg eder: Hold eder fra disse menn og la dem være i fred! for er dette råd eller dette verk av mennesker, da skal det gå til grunne,
39 but if it be of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found also fighting against God.
men er det av Gud, vil I ikke kunne ødelegge dem. Vokt eder at I ikke må finnes stridende mot Gud!
40 And they were persuaded by him; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
De lød ham da, og kalte apostlene inn igjen og lot dem hudstryke, og bød dem at de ikke skulde tale i Jesu navn, og så lot de dem gå.
41 They therefore went away from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame in behalf of that name;
Så gikk de da bort fra rådet, glade over at de var aktet verdige til å vanæres for det navns skyld;
42 and every day, in the temple, and in houses, they ceased not to teach, and to publish the glad tidings concerning Jesus the Christ.
og de holdt ikke op med å lære hver dag i templet og hjemme og å forkynne evangeliet om Kristus Jesus.
