Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Or, un homme nommé Ananias, avec Sapphira, sa femme, vendit une propriété,
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also having knowledge of it; and brought a certain part, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
et en retint une partie du prix; sa femme le savait aussi, puis elle en apporta une partie et la déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why did Satan fill thy heart that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Spirit, and keep back part of the price of the land?
Mais Pierre dit: Ananias, pourquoi Satan a-t-il rempli ton cœur pour mentir au Saint-Esprit et pour retenir une partie du prix du terrain?
4 While it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why didst thou conceive this thing in thy heart? Thou didst not lie to men, but to God.
Tant que tu l'as gardé, n'est-il pas resté à toi? Après sa vente, n'était-elle pas en ton pouvoir? Comment se fait-il que tu aies conçu cette chose dans ton cœur? Tu n'as pas menti aux hommes, mais à Dieu. »
5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all that heard of it.
Ananias, entendant ces paroles, tomba et mourut. Une grande crainte s'empara de tous ceux qui entendirent ces choses.
6 And the young men arose, and wrapt him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
Les jeunes gens, s'étant levés, l'enveloppèrent, l'emportèrent et l'ensevelirent.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
Environ trois heures après, sa femme, qui ne savait pas ce qui était arrivé, entra.
8 Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much.
Pierre lui dit: « Dis-moi si tu as vendu le terrain à un tel prix. » Elle a dit: « Oui, pour tant de choses. »
9 And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they will carry thee out.
Mais Pierre lui dit: « Comment se fait-il que vous vous soyez mis d'accord pour tenter l'Esprit du Seigneur? Voici que les pieds de ceux qui ont enseveli ton mari sont à la porte, et ils vont te porter dehors. »
10 And she fell down immediately at his feet, and expired; and the young men, when they came in, found her dead, and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.
Elle tomba aussitôt à ses pieds et mourut. Les jeunes gens entrèrent et la trouvèrent morte; ils la portèrent dehors et l`enterrèrent près de son mari.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon all that heard of these things.
Une grande crainte s'empara de toute l'assemblée et de tous ceux qui entendirent ces choses.
12 And many signs and wonders were wrought among the people by the hands of the apostles; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
Par les mains des apôtres, beaucoup de signes et de prodiges se produisaient parmi le peuple. Ils étaient tous d'un commun accord sous le portique de Salomon.
13 But of the rest no one dared to join himself to them. But the people highly honored them;
Aucun des autres n'osait se joindre à eux, mais le peuple les honorait.
14 and more and more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;
De plus en plus de croyants se joignaient au Seigneur, des multitudes d'hommes et de femmes.
15 so that in the streets they brought out the sick, and laid them on beds and couches, in order that at least the shadow of Peter, as he passed, might overshadow some of them.
On transportait même les malades dans les rues et on les couchait sur des lits et des matelas, afin que, lorsque Pierre passerait, son ombre au moins couvre quelques-uns d'entre eux.
16 The multitude also belonging to the cities around came together to Jerusalem bringing the sick, and those plagued by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
La foule s'assemblait aussi des villes voisines de Jérusalem, amenant des malades et des personnes tourmentées par des esprits impurs; et tous étaient guéris.
17 But the high-priest and all that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, rose up and were filled with indignation,
Mais le grand prêtre se leva, ainsi que tous ceux qui étaient avec lui (c'est la secte des sadducéens), et ils furent remplis de jalousie
18 and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the public prison.
et mirent la main sur les apôtres, puis les mirent en prison publique.
19 But an angel of the Lord in the night opened the prison-doors, and brought them forth and said,
Mais un ange du Seigneur ouvrit de nuit les portes de la prison, les fit sortir et leur dit:
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
« Allez vous tenir debout et parlez au peuple dans le temple de toutes les paroles de cette vie. »
21 And hearing this, they went into the temple at daybreak and taught. But the high-priest and they that were with him came and called together the council, and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
Après avoir entendu cela, ils entrèrent dans le temple vers l'aube et enseignèrent. Mais le grand prêtre et ceux qui étaient avec lui vinrent convoquer le conseil, avec tout le sénat des enfants d'Israël, et envoyèrent à la prison pour les faire amener.
22 But the officers that came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and brought word,
Mais les officiers qui étaient venus ne les trouvèrent pas dans la prison. Ils revinrent et firent ce rapport:
23 saying, The prison we found shut in all security and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we opened them, we found no one within.
« Nous avons trouvé la prison fermée et verrouillée, et les gardes debout devant les portes; mais quand nous les avons ouvertes, nous n'avons trouvé personne à l'intérieur! ».
24 And when the priest, and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were at a loss concerning them, to what this would come.
Or, lorsque le grand prêtre, le commandant du temple et les chefs des prêtres entendirent ces paroles, ils furent très perplexes à leur sujet et sur ce qui pourrait en résulter.
25 But one came and brought them word, Lo! the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.
Quelqu'un vint leur dire: « Voici que les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple, debout et enseignant le peuple. »
26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence, that they might not be stoned; for they feared the people.
Alors le capitaine alla avec les officiers et les ramena sans violence, car ils craignaient que le peuple ne les lapide.
27 And having brought them, they set them before the council. And the high-priest questioned them,
Quand ils les eurent amenés, ils les présentèrent au sanhédrin. Le grand prêtre les interrogea,
28 saying, We strictly commanded you not to teach in this name, and lo! ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and mean to bring this man's blood upon us.
en disant: « Ne vous avons-nous pas strictement ordonné de ne pas enseigner en ce nom? Voici que vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous avez l'intention de faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme. »
29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Mais Pierre et les apôtres répondirent: « Nous devons obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew by hanging him on a cross;
Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus, que vous avez tué en le pendant au bois.
31 him hath God exalted by his right hand, as a Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Dieu l'a élevé par sa droite pour être Prince et Sauveur, pour donner la repentance à Israël et le pardon des péchés.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit which God hath given to those who obey him.
Nous sommes ses témoins de ces choses, ainsi que le Saint-Esprit, que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent. »
33 But when they heard this, they were filled with rage, and were resolving to kill them.
Mais eux, en entendant cela, eurent le cœur serré, et ils étaient résolus à les faire mourir.
34 But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, in high esteem with all the people, and commanded to put the men forth a little while,
Mais quelqu'un se leva dans le sanhédrin, un pharisien nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la loi, honoré de tout le peuple, et ordonna de mettre les apôtres à l'écart pour un peu de temps.
35 and said to them [[of the council]], Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as to what ye are about to do in respect to these men.
Il leur dit: « Hommes d'Israël, prenez garde à ces hommes, à ce que vous allez faire.
36 For before these days arose Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and came to nought.
Car, avant ces jours-ci, Theudas s'est levé, se faisant passer pour quelqu'un, et un certain nombre d'hommes, environ quatre cents, se sont joints à lui. Il fut tué, et tous ceux qui lui obéissaient furent dispersés et réduits à néant.
37 After this man arose Judas the Galilaean, in the days of the registering, and drew people away after him; he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
Après cet homme, Judas de Galilée se leva au temps de l'inscription, et il entraîna quelques personnes après lui. Lui aussi a péri, et tous ceux qui lui obéissaient ont été dispersés.
38 And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone; for if this design or this work be of men, it will come to nought;
Maintenant, je vous le dis, retirez-vous de ces hommes et laissez-les tranquilles. Car si ce conseil ou cette œuvre est le fait des hommes, il sera renversé.
39 but if it be of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found also fighting against God.
Mais si elle est de Dieu, vous ne pourrez pas la renverser, et l'on trouverait même que vous luttez contre Dieu! ».
40 And they were persuaded by him; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
Ils furent d'accord avec lui. Ils convoquèrent les apôtres, les battirent, leur ordonnèrent de ne pas parler au nom de Jésus, et les relâchèrent.
41 They therefore went away from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame in behalf of that name;
Ils s'éloignèrent donc de la présence du sanhédrin, se réjouissant d'avoir été jugés dignes de subir l'opprobre pour le nom de Jésus.
42 and every day, in the temple, and in houses, they ceased not to teach, and to publish the glad tidings concerning Jesus the Christ.
Chaque jour, dans le temple et dans les foyers, ils ne cessaient d'enseigner et de prêcher Jésus, le Christ.
