Acts 4
1 And while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,
Comme ils parlaient au peuple, les prêtres, le commandant du temple et les sadducéens vinrent les trouver,
2 being indignant that they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
mécontents de ce qu'ils enseignaient le peuple et proclamaient en Jésus la résurrection des morts.
3 And they laid hands upon them, and put them in prison until the next day; for it was now evening.
Ils leur imposèrent les mains et les mirent en détention jusqu'au lendemain, car le soir tombait.
4 Many however of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men became five thousand.
Mais beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole crurent, et le nombre de ces hommes s'éleva à environ cinq mille.
5 And it came to pass on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes,
Dès le matin, les chefs, les anciens et les scribes s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem.
6 and Annas the high-priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high-priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
Le souverain sacrificateur Anne était là, avec Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient parents du souverain sacrificateur.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, did ye do this?
Après avoir placé Pierre et Jean au milieu d'eux, ils leur demandèrent: « Par quelle puissance, ou en quel nom, avez-vous fait cela? »
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel!
Alors Pierre, rempli du Saint-Esprit, leur dit: Chefs du peuple et anciens d'Israël,
9 If we are this day examined in respect to a good deed done to a cripple, by what means he hath been restored,
si l'on nous interroge aujourd'hui sur un bienfait fait à un infirme, sur la manière dont cet homme a été guéri,
10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, —by him doth this man stand here before you sound.
qu'il soit connu de vous tous, et de tout le peuple d'Israël, qu'au nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié, et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, cet homme se tient ici devant vous tout entier en lui.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought by you the builders, which is become a cornerstone.
Il est « la pierre que vous, les bâtisseurs, regardiez comme sans valeur, et qui est devenue la tête de l'angle ».
12 And there is salvation in no other; for there is not another name under heaven, that hath been given among men, by which we must be saved.
Il n'y a de salut en personne d'autre, car il n'y a sous le ciel aucun autre nom qui ait été donné parmi les hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés! »
13 And when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and common men, they wondered; and they recognized them as having been with Jesus.
Or, quand ils virent l'audace de Pierre et de Jean, et qu'ils eurent compris qu'ils étaient des hommes ignorants et sans instruction, ils furent dans l'étonnement. Ils reconnurent qu'ils avaient été avec Jésus.
14 And seeing the man that had been cured standing with them, they could say nothing in reply.
Et voyant que l'homme guéri se tenait avec eux, ils ne pouvaient rien dire contre cela.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
Mais, après leur avoir ordonné de se retirer du sanhédrin, ils se concertèrent entre eux,
16 saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a remarkable sign hath been wrought by them is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
en disant: « Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? Car, en effet, un miracle remarquable a été accompli par eux, comme le voient clairement tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et nous ne pouvons le nier.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us strictly forbid them with threats to speak any longer in this name to any one.
Mais, afin que cela ne se répande pas davantage parmi le peuple, menaçons-les, afin que désormais ils ne parlent plus à personne en ce nom. »
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach, in the name of Jesus.
Ils les appelèrent et leur ordonnèrent de ne plus parler du tout ni d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye.
Mais Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: « S'il est juste aux yeux de Dieu de vous écouter plutôt que d'écouter Dieu, jugez-en vous-mêmes,
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard.
car nous ne pouvons nous empêcher de raconter les choses que nous avons vues et entendues. »
21 So, having further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, on account of the people; because all were glorifying God for that which had been done.
Après leur avoir fait de nouvelles menaces, ils les laissèrent partir, ne trouvant aucun moyen de les punir, à cause du peuple; car tous glorifiaient Dieu pour ce qui s'était passé.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this sign of the healing had been wrought.
Car l'homme sur lequel s'est produit ce miracle de guérison était âgé de plus de quarante ans.
23 And being released they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.
Après avoir été relâchés, ils retournèrent auprès d'eux et racontèrent tout ce que les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And on hearing it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art he that made heaven and earth and sea, and all things that are in them;
Après l'avoir entendu, ils élevèrent d'un commun accord la voix vers Dieu et dirent: « Seigneur, tu es Dieu, toi qui as fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qui s'y trouve;
25 who by the mouth of thy servant David said, “Why did the heathen rage, and the peoples meditate vain things?
toi qui, par la bouche de ton serviteur David, as dit, « Pourquoi les nations sont-elles en colère? et les peuples complotent en vain?
26 The kings of the earth came up, and the rulers assembled together, against the Lord, and against his Anointed.”
Les rois de la terre prennent position, et les dirigeants complotent ensemble, contre le Seigneur, et contre son Christ.
27 For in truth against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, did both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles, and the peoples of Israel, assemble in this city,
« En effet, Hérode et Ponce Pilate, avec les païens et le peuple d'Israël, se sont ligués contre ton saint serviteur Jésus, que tu as oint,
28 to do whatever thy hand and thy will before determined to be done.
pour faire tout ce que ta main et ton conseil ont décidé d'accomplir.
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to thy servants that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
Maintenant, Seigneur, regarde leurs menaces, et accorde à tes serviteurs de dire ta parole en toute hardiesse,
30 while thou stretchest forth thy hand to heal, and signs and wonders are wrought through the name of thy holy servant Jesus.
tandis que tu étends ta main pour guérir, et que des signes et des prodiges se produisent au nom de ton saint serviteur Jésus. »
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Après qu'ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient réunis fut ébranlé. Ils étaient tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart, and of one soul; and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
La multitude de ceux qui ont cru n'avait qu'un cœur et qu'une âme. Aucun d'eux ne prétendait qu'une partie de ce qu'il possédait lui appartenait en propre, mais ils avaient tout en commun.
33 And with great power did the apostles give their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all.
Avec une grande puissance, les apôtres rendaient leur témoignage de la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus. Une grande grâce reposait sur eux tous.
34 For there was no one among them that was in want; for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
En effet, il n'y avait parmi eux aucun indigent, car tous ceux qui possédaient des terres ou des maisons les vendaient, apportaient le produit de leur vente,
35 and laid them at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was made to every one, according as he had need.
et le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; et l'on distribuait à chacun selon ses besoins.
36 And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, when interpreted, Son of consolation, ) a Levite, born in Cyprus,
Joses, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabé (ce qui signifie, selon l'interprétation, Fils de l'encouragement), lévite, originaire de Chypre,
37 having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
ayantun champ, le vendit, apporta l'argent et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.
