Acts 19
1 And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper districts, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples,
Y aconteció, que entre tanto que Apólos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino a Efeso, donde hallando ciertos discípulos,
2 he said to them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said to him, No, we did not even hear whether there is a Holy Spirit.
Díjoles: ¿Habéis recibido al Espíritu Santo desde que creísteis? Y ellos le dijeron: Antes ni aun hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo.
3 And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John's baptism.
Entonces les dijo: ¿En qué pues habéis sido bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.
4 Then said Paul, John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should believe on him that was coming after him; that is, on Jesus.
Y dijo Pablo: Juan en verdad bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo, que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es a saber, en Jesu Cristo.
5 And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Oídas estas cosas fueron bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús.
6 And when Paul bad laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
Y como Pablo les puso las manos encima, vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo, y hablaban en lenguas extrañas, y profetizaban.
7 And the men were about twelve in all.
Y eran los varones todos como doce.
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for three months, discoursing and persuading concerning the kingdom of God.
Y entrando él dentro de la sinagoga, hablaba libremente por espacio de tres meses, disputando y persuadiendo del reino de Dios.
9 But when some were hardened, and believed not, but spoke evil of the way [[of the Lord]] before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, discoursing daily in the school of Tyrannus.
Mas cuando algunos se endurecieron, y no querían creer, antes dijeron mal del camino del Señor delante de la multitud, se apartó Pablo de ellos, y separó los discípulos, razonando cada día en la escuela de un cierto Tiranno.
10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
Y esto fue hecho por espacio de dos años, de tal manera que todos los que habitaban en Asia, así Judíos como Griegos, oyeron la palabra del Señor Jesús.
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul;
Y hacía Dios milagros no cualesquiera por las manos de Pablo.
12 so that even handkerchiefs, or aprons, were carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out.
De tal manera que aun llevasen a los enfermos paños y pañuelos de sobre su cuerpo; y las enfermedades se iban de ellos, y los malos espíritus salían de ellos.
13 Then some of the wandering Jewish exorcists undertook to name over those who had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by that Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Y algunos de los Judíos exorcistas vagabundos tentaron a invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malos, diciendo: Os conjuramos por Jesús, el que Pablo predica.
14 And there were seven sons of Scevas, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.
Y había siete hijos de un tal Sceva, Judío, príncipe de los sacerdotes, que hacían esto.
15 And the evil spirit answering said, Jesus I knew, and Paul I well know; but who are ye?
Y respondiendo el espíritu malo, dijo: A Jesús conozco, y Pablo, sé quien es; mas, vosotros, ¿quién sois?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them both, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Y el hombre en quien estaba el espíritu malo, saltando sobre ellos, y enseñoreándose de ellos, pudo más que ellos, de tal manera que huyeron de aquella casa desnudos y heridos.
17 And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who dwelt at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
Y esto fue notorio a todos los que habitaban en Efeso, así Judíos como Griegos; y cayó temor sobre todos ellos, y era ensalzado el nombre del Señor Jesús.
18 And many of the believers came, confessing and declaring their practices.
Y muchos de los que habían creído, venían confesando, y dando cuenta de sus hechos.
19 Many also of those who had practised magical arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
Asimismo muchos de los que habían seguido artes curiosas, trajeron los libros, y quemáronlos delante de todos; y echada cuenta del precio de ellos, hallaron que montaban cincuenta mil piezas de plata.
20 So the word of the Lord grew and prevailed mightily.
Así crecía poderosamente la palabra del Señor, y prevalecía.
21 And when these things were ended, Paul resolved to pass through Macedonia and Achaia, and to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
Y acabadas estas cosas, propuso Pablo en su espíritu (andada Macedonia y Acaya) de partirse a Jerusalem, diciendo: Después que hubiere estado allá, me será menester ver también a Roma.
22 And having sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
Y enviando a Macedonia a dos de los que le ministraban, es a saber, Timoteo y Erasto, él se estuvo por algún tiempo en Asia.
23 And about that time there arose no small tumult concerning the faith.
Entonces hubo un alboroto no pequeño acerca del camino del Señor.
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, made silver shrines of Diana, and brought no small gain to the craftsmen.
Porque un cierto platero, llamado Demetrio, el cual hacía de plata templos de Diana, daba a los artífices no poca ganancia.
25 And having called them together, with the workmen of like occupation, he said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth;
A los cuales juntados con los oficiales de semejante oficio, dijo: Varones, ya sabéis que de este oficio tenemos ganancia;
26 and ye see and hear, that this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, not only of Ephesus, but of almost all Asia, saying, that those are not gods, which are made with hands.
Y veis, y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, mas por casi toda la Asia aparta con persuasión a muchísima gente, diciendo: Que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.
27 And there is not only danger that this branch of our business will come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana will be despised, and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.
Y no solamente hay peligro de que éste nuestro oficio se nos vuelva en reproche, mas aun también que el templo de la grande diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience a ser destruida la majestad de aquella, a la cual honra toda la Asia, y el mundo.
28 And hearing this they became full of wrath, and kept crying out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians!
Oídas estas cosas, hinchiéronse de ira, y dieron alarido, diciendo: Grande es Diana de los Efesios.
29 And the city was filled with confusion; and they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.
Y toda la ciudad se llenó de confusión, y unánimes arremetieron al teatro, arrebatando a Gayo y a Aristarco Macedonios, compañeros de Pablo.
30 And when Paul wished to go in to the people, the disciples would not suffer him.
Y queriendo Pablo salir al pueblo, los discípulos no le dejaron.
31 And some also of the Asiarchs, who were his friends, sent to him, and entreated him not to venture into the theatre.
También algunos de los principales de Asia, que eran sus amigos, enviaron a él rogándo le que no se presentase en el teatro.
32 Some therefore were crying one thing, and some another; for the assembly was in confusion, and the greater part knew not wherefore they had come together.
Y unos gritaban una cosa, y otros gritaban otra; porque la asamblea era confusa, y los más no sabían por qué se habían juntado.
33 And they brought forward Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward; and Alexander beckoned with his hand, desiring to make his defence to the people.
Y sacaron de entre la multitud a Alejandro, rempujándole los Judíos. Entonces Alejandro, pedido silencio con la mano, quería dar razón al pueblo.
34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice for about two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians!
Al cual como conocieron que era Judío, todos gritaron a una voz, como por espacio de dos horas: Grande es Diana de los Efesios.
35 But when the Recorder had quieted the multitude, he said, Men of Ephesus, who is there among men that doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is guardian of the great Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
Y cuando el escribano hubo apaciguado la multitud, dijo: Varones Efesios, ¿quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los Efesios es adoradora de la grande diosa Diana, y de la imagen que descendió de Júpiter?
36 Since then these things cannot be denied, ye ought to be quiet, and do nothing rashly.
Así que, pues que esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente.
37 For ye have brought hither these men, who are neither robbers of temples, nor blasphemers of your goddess.
Porque habéis traído a estos hombres, que ni son sacrílegos, ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.
38 If then Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against any one, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls; let them bring their charges against each other.
Por lo cual si Demetrio, y los oficiales que están con él, tienen queja contra alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay, acúsense los unos a los otros.
39 But if ye ask for any thing further, it shall be determined in the lawful assembly.
Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítimo ayuntamiento se puede despachar;
40 For we are in danger of being called to answer concerning this day's riot, there being no ground on which we shall be able to give an account of this concourse.
Que peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por esto de hoy: no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso.
41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la asamblea.
