Acts 19
1 And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper districts, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples,
१तेव्हा असे झाले की, अपुल्लो करिंथ येथे असताना पौल निरनिराळ्या भागातून प्रवास करीत इफिस येथे आला, तेथे त्यास काही शिष्य आढळले.
2 he said to them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said to him, No, we did not even hear whether there is a Holy Spirit.
२पौलाने त्यांना विचारले, “जेव्हा तुम्ही विश्वास ठेवला, तेव्हा तुम्हास पवित्र आत्मा मिळाला काय?” ते अनुयायी त्यास म्हणाले, “पवित्र आत्मा आहे हे सुद्धा आम्ही ऐकलेले नाही.”
3 And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John's baptism.
३तो म्हणाला, “मग कसला बाप्तिस्मा तुम्ही घेतला?” ते म्हणाले, “योहानाचा बाप्तिस्मा.”
4 Then said Paul, John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should believe on him that was coming after him; that is, on Jesus.
४पौल म्हणाला, “योहानाचा बाप्तिस्मा पश्चात्तापाचा होता, त्याने लोकांस सांगितले की, त्यानंतर जो येत आहे, त्याच्यावर लोकांनी विश्वास ठेवावा, तो येणारा म्हणजे येशू होय.”
5 And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
५जेव्हा त्यांनी हे ऐकले, तेव्हा त्यांनी प्रभू येशूच्या नावात बाप्तिस्मा घेतला.
6 And when Paul bad laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
६आणि जेव्हा पौलाने त्याचे हात त्यांच्यावर ठेवले, तेव्हा पवित्र आत्मा त्यांच्यावर आला आणि ते निरनिराळ्या भाषा बोलू लागले व भविष्य सांगू लागले.
7 And the men were about twelve in all.
७या गटात सर्व मिळून बारा पुरूष होते.
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for three months, discoursing and persuading concerning the kingdom of God.
८पौल यहूदी सभास्थानात जात असे व तीन महिने धैर्याने बोलत असे, देवाच्या राज्याविषयी चर्चा करीत व यहूदी लोकांचे मन वळवीत असे.
9 But when some were hardened, and believed not, but spoke evil of the way [[of the Lord]] before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, discoursing daily in the school of Tyrannus.
९परंतु त्यांच्यातील काही कठीण मनाचे झाले व त्यांनी विश्वास ठेवण्यास नकार दिला आणि ख्रिस्ताच्या मार्गाविषयी वाईट बोलले, मग पौल त्यांच्यातून निघून गेला व शिष्यांनाही त्यांच्यातून वेगळे केले आणि तुरन्नाच्या शाळेत दररोज त्यांच्याशी चर्चा केली.
10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
१०हे असे दोन वर्षे चालले, याचा परिणाम असा झाला की, आशियात राहत असलेल्या सर्व यहूदी व ग्रीक लोकांपर्यंत प्रभू येशूचे वचन पोहोचले.
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul;
११देवाने पौलाच्या हातून असामान्य चमत्कार घडविले.
12 so that even handkerchiefs, or aprons, were carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out.
१२पौलाच्या शरीरावरून रुमाल आणि कपडेही आणून काही, लोक या गोष्टी आजारी लोकांवर ठेवत असत, जेव्हा ते असे करीत तेव्हा आजारी लोक बरे होत आणि दुष्ट आत्मे त्यांना सोडून जात.
13 Then some of the wandering Jewish exorcists undertook to name over those who had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by that Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
१३काही यहूदी सुद्धा सगळीकडे प्रवास करीत असत व लोकांमधून दुष्ट आत्मे घालवीत असत, ते दुष्ट आत्म्याने पछाडलेल्या व्यक्तीमधून प्रभू येशूच्या नावाने ते आत्मे घालवीत असत.
14 And there were seven sons of Scevas, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.
१४ते म्हणत, “पौल ज्या येशूच्या नावाने घोषणा करतो त्या नावाने मी तुला आज्ञा करतो,” स्किवा नावाच्या यहूदी मुख्य याजकाचे सात पुत्र असे करीत होते.
15 And the evil spirit answering said, Jesus I knew, and Paul I well know; but who are ye?
१५परंतु एकदा एक दुष्ट आत्मा त्यांना म्हणाला, “मी येशूला ओळखतो, पौल मला माहीत आहे, पण तुम्ही कोण आहात?”
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them both, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
१६मग ज्याला दुष्ट आत्मा लागला होता त्या मनुष्याने त्यांच्यावर उडी मारली, त्याने त्यांच्यावर सरशी केली व त्यांना पराभूत केले, तेव्हा ते दोघे उघडे व जखमी होऊन घरातून पळाले.
17 And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who dwelt at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
१७इफिस येथे राहणाऱ्या सर्व यहूदी व ग्रीक लोकांस हे समजले, तेव्हा सर्वांना भीती वाटली आणि लोक प्रभू येशूच्या नावाचा अधिकच आदर करू लागले.
18 And many of the believers came, confessing and declaring their practices.
१८पुष्कळसे विश्वास ठेवणारे पापकबुली देऊ लागले व ज्या वाईट गोष्टी त्यांनी केल्या होत्या, त्या सांगू लागले.
19 Many also of those who had practised magical arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
१९काही विश्वास ठेवणाऱ्यांनी जादूची कामे केली होती, या विश्वास ठेवणाऱ्यांनी आपली सर्व जादूची पुस्तके लोकांसमोर आणली आणि जाळली, त्या पुस्तकांची किंमत पन्नास हजार चांदीच्या नाण्यांइतकी भरली.
20 So the word of the Lord grew and prevailed mightily.
२०अशा रीतीने प्रभूच्या वचनाचा दूरवर प्रसार झाला व ते फार परिणामकारक ठरले.
21 And when these things were ended, Paul resolved to pass through Macedonia and Achaia, and to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
२१या गोष्टी घडल्यानंतर पौलाला पवित्र आत्म्याने सुचवले की, मासेदोनिया व अखया या प्रांतांतून प्रवास करीत पुढे यरूशलेम शहरास जायचे आहे, तो म्हणाला, “मी तेथे गेल्यांनतर मला रोम शहरही पाहिलेच पाहिजे.”
22 And having sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
२२म्हणून त्याचे दोन मदतनीस तीमथ्य व एरास्त यांना त्याने मासेदोनियाला पाठवून दिले आणि त्याने आणखी काही काळ आशियात घालविला.
23 And about that time there arose no small tumult concerning the faith.
२३याकाळामध्ये ‘त्या मार्गाविषयी’ मोठा गोंधळ उडाला.
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, made silver shrines of Diana, and brought no small gain to the craftsmen.
२४देमेत्रिय नावाचा एक मनुष्य होता, तो सोनार होता, तो अर्तमी देवीचे देव्हारे बनवीत असे, जे कारागीर होते त्यांना यामुळे खूप पैसे मिळत.
25 And having called them together, with the workmen of like occupation, he said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth;
२५त्या सर्वांना व या धंद्याशी संबंध असलेल्या सर्वांना त्याने एकत्र केले आणि तो म्हणाला, लोकहो, तुम्हास माहीत आहे की, या धंद्यापासून आपल्याला चांगला पैसा मिळतो.
26 and ye see and hear, that this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, not only of Ephesus, but of almost all Asia, saying, that those are not gods, which are made with hands.
२६पण पाहा तो पौल नावाचा मनुष्य काय करीत आहे तो काय म्हणत आहे ते ऐका! पौलाने पुष्कळ लोकांस प्रभावित केले आहे व बदलले आहे, त्याने हे इफिसमध्ये व सगळ्या आशियामध्ये केले आहे, तो म्हणतो, मनुष्यांच्या हातून बनवलेले देव खरे देव नाहीत.
27 And there is not only danger that this branch of our business will come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana will be despised, and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.
२७ह्यामुळे या आपल्या धंद्याची बदनामी होण्याचा धोका आहे; इतकेच नव्हे तर ज्या महादेवी अर्तमीची पूजा सर्व आशिया प्रांत किंबहूना जगसुद्धा करते तिचे देऊळ निरुपयोगी ठरण्याचा व तिचे स्वतःचे महत्त्व नष्ट होण्याचा धोका आहे.
28 And hearing this they became full of wrath, and kept crying out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians!
२८जेव्हा त्यांनी हे ऐकले तेव्हा ते फार रागावले आणि मोठ्याने ओरडून म्हणू लागले, “इफिसकरांची अर्तमी थोर आहे.”
29 And the city was filled with confusion; and they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.
२९शहरातील लोकांमध्ये गोंधळ उडाला आणि लोकांनी गायस व अरीस्तार्ख या पौलाबरोबर सोबती म्हणून प्रवास करणाऱ्या मासेदोनियाच्या रहिवाश्यांना पकडून नाट्यगृहात नेले.
30 And when Paul wished to go in to the people, the disciples would not suffer him.
३०पौल लोकांच्या पुढे जाऊ इच्छीत होता पण येशूचे अनुयायी त्यास असे करू देईनात.
31 And some also of the Asiarchs, who were his friends, sent to him, and entreated him not to venture into the theatre.
३१पौलाचे काही मित्र जे प्रांताधिकारी होते, त्यांनी निरोप पाठवून त्याने नाट्यगृहात जाऊ नये अशी कळकळीची विनंती केली.
32 Some therefore were crying one thing, and some another; for the assembly was in confusion, and the greater part knew not wherefore they had come together.
३२एकत्र जमलेल्या जमावातून काही लोक एक घोषणा करू लागले तर दुसरे लोक इतर घोषणा करू लागले, त्यामुळे सगळा जमाव अगदी गोंधळून गेला आणि त्यातील पुष्कळ जणांना माहीत नव्हते की, आपण या न्याय भवनात एकत्र का आलोत.
33 And they brought forward Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward; and Alexander beckoned with his hand, desiring to make his defence to the people.
३३यहूदी लोकांनी आलेक्सांद्र नावाच्या एका मनुष्यास ढकलीत नेऊन सर्वांच्या समोर उभे केले, तो आपल्या हातांनी खुणावून त्यांना समजावण्याचा प्रयत्न करू लागला.
34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice for about two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians!
३४पण जेव्हा लोकांस समजले की, तो एक यहूदी आहे, तेव्हा जवळ जवळ दोन तास सातत्याने ते एका आवाजात ओरडत राहिले, “इफिसकरांची अर्तमी देवी थोर आहे.”
35 But when the Recorder had quieted the multitude, he said, Men of Ephesus, who is there among men that doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is guardian of the great Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
३५शहराचा लेखनिक लोकांस शांत करीत म्हणाला, “इफिसच्या लोकांनो, थोर अर्तमी देवीचे व स्वर्गातून पडलेल्या पवित्र दगडाचे इफिस हे रक्षणकर्ते आहे, हे ज्याला माहीत नाही असा एकतरी मनुष्य जगात आहे काय?
36 Since then these things cannot be denied, ye ought to be quiet, and do nothing rashly.
३६ज्याअर्थी या गोष्टी नाकारता येत नाहीत त्याअर्थी तुम्ही शांत राहिलेच पाहिजे, उतावळेपणा करू नये.
37 For ye have brought hither these men, who are neither robbers of temples, nor blasphemers of your goddess.
३७तुम्ही या दोघांना येथे घेऊन आलात, वस्तुतः त्यांनी मंदिरातील कशाचीही चोरी केली नाही किंवा आपल्या देवीची निंदा केलेली नाही.
38 If then Demetrius and the craftsmen with him have a complaint against any one, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls; let them bring their charges against each other.
३८जर देमेत्रिय व त्याच्याबरोबर असलेल्या कारागिरांच्या काही तक्रारी असतील, तर त्यासाठी न्यायालये उघडी आहेत, तेथे ते एकमेकांवर आरोप करू शकतात.
39 But if ye ask for any thing further, it shall be determined in the lawful assembly.
३९परंतु जर तुम्हास एखाद्या गोष्टीची चौकशी करायची असेल तर नियमित सभेत त्यासंबंधी विचार केला जाईल.
40 For we are in danger of being called to answer concerning this day's riot, there being no ground on which we shall be able to give an account of this concourse.
४०आज येथे जे काही घडलेले आहे, त्याबद्दल योग्य ते कारण आपणांस सांगता येणार नाही, त्यामुळे आपणच ही दंगल सुरू केली असा आरोप आपल्यावर केला जाण्याची भीती आहे.”
41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
४१असे सांगून झाल्यानंतर त्याने जमावाला जाण्यास सांगितले.
