Acts 10
1 Now a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
কৈসরিয়াতে কর্ণীলিয় নামে এক ব্যক্তি ছিলেন, তিনি ইতালীয় সৈন্যবাহিনী নামে পরিচিত এক সৈন্যদলের শত-সেনাপতি ছিলেন।
2 a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, giving much alms to the people, and praying to God always,
তিনি ও তাঁর পরিবারের সকলে ভক্তিপরায়ণ ও ঈশ্বরভয়শীল ছিলেন। তিনি অভাবী লোকদের উদার হাতে দান করতেন এবং নিয়মিতভাবে ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করতেন।
3 saw in a vision plainly, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him, and saying to him, Cornelius!
একদিন বিকালে, প্রায় তিনটের সময়, তিনি এক দর্শন লাভ করলেন। তিনি ঈশ্বরের এক দূতকে স্পষ্ট দেখতে পেলেন। তিনি তাঁর কাছে এসে বললেন, “কর্ণীলিয়!”
4 And he, looking steadily at him, and becoming affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Thy prayers and thine alms have come up for a memorial before God.
কর্ণীলিয় সভয়ে তাঁর দিকে অপলক দৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে রইলেন। তিনি জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “প্রভু, কী হয়েছে?” দূত উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমার সব প্রার্থনা ও দরিদ্রদের প্রতি সব দান, স্মরণীয় নৈবেদ্যরূপে ঈশ্বরের কাছে উপস্থিত হয়েছে।
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, who is surnamed Peter;
এখন জোপ্পায় লোক পাঠিয়ে শিমোন নামে এক ব্যক্তিকে নিয়ে এসো, যাকে পিতর বলে ডাকা হয়।
6 he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the seaside.
সে শিমোন নামে এক চর্মকারের বাড়িতে আছে, যার বাড়ি সমুদ্রের তীরে অবস্থিত।”
7 And when the angel that spoke to him had departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of those who waited on him,
তাঁর সঙ্গে যিনি কথা বলছিলেন, সেই দূত চলে যাওয়ার পর, কর্ণীলিয় তাঁর দুজন দাস ও একজন অনুগত সৈন্যকে ডেকে পাঠালেন, যে ছিল তাঁর ব্যক্তিগত পরিচারক।
8 and having told them every thing sent them to Joppa.
তিনি তাদের কাছে সব ঘটনার কথা বলে তাদের জোপ্পায় পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
9 On the morrow, as they were on their journey, and were drawing near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour.
পরের দিন, প্রায় দুপুর বারোটায়, তারা যখন পথ চলতে চলতে সেই নগরের কাছাকাছি উপস্থিত হল, সেই সময়, পিতর প্রার্থনা করার জন্য ছাদের উপরে উঠলেন।
10 And he became very hungry and wished to eat; but while they were making ready, a trance came upon him,
তাঁর খিদে পেল এবং তিনি কিছু খাবার খেতে চাইলেন। যখন খাবার প্রস্তুত হচ্ছে, তিনি ভাবাবিষ্ট হলেন।
11 and he beheld heaven opened, and a sort of vessel descending, as it were a large sheet having cords at the four corners, and let down upon the earth;
তিনি দেখলেন, আকাশ খুলে গেছে এবং বিশাল চাদরের মতো একটা কিছু, তার চার প্রান্ত ধরে পৃথিবীতে নামিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছে।
12 wherein were all the four-footed beasts and creeping things of the earth, and birds of the air.
তার মধ্যে ছিল সব ধরনের চতুষ্পদ প্রাণী, সেই সঙ্গে পৃথিবীর যত সরীসৃপ ও আকাশের বিভিন্ন পাখি।
13 And there came a voice to him, Arise, Peter; slay, and eat.
তখন একটি কণ্ঠস্বর তাঁকে বলল, “পিতর ওঠো, মারো ও খাও।”
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common and unclean.
পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “কিছুতেই তা হয় না প্রভু! অশুদ্ধ বা অশুচি কোনো কিছু আমি কখনও ভোজন করিনি।”
15 And a voice came to him again, the second time, That which God hath cleansed, call not thou common.
সেই কণ্ঠস্বর দ্বিতীয়বার তাঁকে বলল, “ঈশ্বর যা শুচিশুদ্ধ করেছেন, তুমি তাকে অশুদ্ধ বোলো না।”
16 This was done three times; and the vessel was immediately taken up into heaven.
এরকম তিনবার হল, আর সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সেই চাদরখানা আকাশে তুলে নেওয়া হল।
17 Now, while Peter was doubting within himself what the vision which he had seen meant, lo! the men who were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate;
সেই দর্শনের কী অর্থ হতে পারে, ভেবে পিতর যখন বিস্মিত হচ্ছিলেন, কর্ণীলিয়ের প্রেরিত সেই লোকেরা শিমোনের বাড়ির সন্ধান পেল এবং দুয়ারের সামনে এসে দাঁড়াল।
18 and they called, and asked whether Simon, surnamed Peter, lodged there.
তারা ডাকাডাকি করে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, পিতর নামে পরিচিত শিমোন সেখানে থাকেন কি না।
19 And while Peter was meditating on the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, men are seeking thee;
পিতর তখনও সেই দর্শনের বিষয়ে চিন্তা করছিলেন পবিত্র আত্মা তাঁকে বললেন, “শিমোন, তিনজন লোক তোমার খোঁজ করছে।
20 but arise, and go down, and go with them, without scruple; for I have sent them.
তাই ওঠো ও নিচে নেমে যাও। তাদের সঙ্গে যেতে ইতস্তত বোধ কোরো না, কারণ আমিই তাদের পাঠিয়েছি।”
21 And Peter went down to the men and said, Behold, I am he whom ye are seeking; for what cause have ye come?
পিতর নিচে নেমে সেই লোকদের বললেন, “তোমরা যাঁর খোঁজ করছ, আমিই সেই। তোমরা কেন এসেছ?”
22 And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee to his house, and to hear words from thee.
সেই লোকেরা উত্তর দিল, “আমরা শত-সেনাপতি কর্ণীলিয়ের কাছ থেকে এসেছি। তিনি একজন ধার্মিক ও ঈশ্বরভয়শীল মানুষ। সব ইহুদিই তাঁকে শ্রদ্ধা করে। এক পবিত্র দূত তাঁকে বলেছেন, তিনি যেন আপনাকে তাঁর বাড়িতে ডাকেন ও আপনি এসে যা বলতে চান, তিনি সেকথা শোনেন।”
23 Then he called them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
তখন পিতর তাদের বাড়ির ভিতরে নিয়ে গেলেন ও তাদের আতিথ্য করলেন। পরের দিন পিতর তাদের সঙ্গে যাত্রা শুরু করলেন। জোপ্পার কয়েকজন ভাইও তাদের সঙ্গে গেলেন।
24 And the morrow after, he came into Caesarea. And Cornelius was expecting them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
তার পরদিন তিনি কৈসরিয়ায় পৌঁছালেন। কর্ণীলিয় তাদের অপেক্ষায় ছিলেন। তিনি তাঁর আত্মীয়স্বজন ও ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুদেরও ডেকে একত্র করেছিলেন।
25 And as Peter came in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and did him reverence.
পিতর বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করা মাত্র কর্ণীলিয় তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করলেন ও সম্ভ্রমবশত তাঁর চরণে লুটিয়ে পড়লেন।
26 But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
কিন্তু পিতর তাঁকে তুলে ধরলেন ও বললেন, “উঠে দাঁড়ান, আমিও একজন মানুষমাত্র!”
27 And while talking with him, he went in, and found many who had come together.
তাঁর সঙ্গে কথা বলতে বলতে পিতর ভিতরে প্রবেশ করলেন এবং দেখলেন অনেক লোক একত্র হয়েছে।
28 And he said to them, Ye know that it is an unlawful thing for a Jew to keep company with one of another nation, or to come near him; but God showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
তিনি তাদের বললেন, “আপনারা ভালোভাবেই জানেন যে, অইহুদি কোনো মানুষের সঙ্গে মেলামেশা করা বা তাকে পরিদর্শন করা, কোনো ইহুদির পক্ষে বিধানবিরুদ্ধ কাজ। কিন্তু ঈশ্বর আমাকে দেখিয়েছেন, আমি যেন কোনো মানুষকে অশুদ্ধ বা অশুচি না বলি।
29 Wherefore I came without objection, when sent for. I ask therefore, for what reason did ye send for me?
তাই যখন আমাকে ডেকে পাঠানো হল, কোনোরকম আপত্তি না করে আমি চলে এলাম। আমি কি জিজ্ঞাসা করতে পারি, কেন আপনারা আমাকে ডেকে পাঠিয়েছেন?”
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago, I was fasting till this hour; and at the ninth hour was praying in my house; and lo! a man stood before me in bright clothing,
কর্ণীলিয় উত্তর দিলেন, “চারদিন আগে, এরকম সময়ে, বেলা তিনটের সময়, আমি আমার বাড়িতে প্রার্থনা করছিলাম। হঠাৎই উজ্জ্বল পোশাক পরে এক ব্যক্তি আমার সামনে এসে দাঁড়ালেন।
31 and said, Cornelius, thy prayer hath been heard, and thine alms have been remembered before God.
তিনি বললেন, ‘কর্ণীলিয়, ঈশ্বর তোমার প্রার্থনা শুনেছেন এবং দরিদ্রদের প্রতি তোমার সব দান স্মরণ করেছেন।
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea-side; and he, when he cometh, will speak to thee.
তুমি পিতর নামে পরিচিত শিমোনকে ডেকে আনার জন্য জোপ্পাতে লোক পাঠাও। সে শিমোন নামে এক চর্মকারের বাড়িতে অতিথি হয়ে আছে। তার বাড়ি সমুদ্রের তীরে।’
33 I therefore sent to thee immediately; and thou hast done well in coming here. Now therefore we are all present before God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee from the Lord.
তাই আমি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আপনার কাছে লোক পাঠালাম, আর আপনি এসে ভালোই করেছেন। এখন আমরা সকলে এই স্থানে ঈশ্বরের সাক্ষাতে উপস্থিত হয়েছি। প্রভু আমাদের কাছে বলার জন্য আপনাকে যে আদেশ দিয়েছেন, সেই সমস্ত শোনার জন্য আমরা একত্র হয়েছি।”
34 And Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is not a respecter of persons,
তখন পিতর কথা বলা শুরু করলেন: “এখন আমি বুঝতে পারছি যে, একথা কেমন সত্যি যে ঈশ্বর পক্ষপাতিত্ব করেন না,
35 but in every nation he that feareth him and worketh righteousness is acceptable to him—
কিন্তু যারাই তাঁকে ভয় করে ও ন্যায়সংগত আচরণ করে, সেইসব জাতির মানুষকে তিনি গ্রহণ করেন।
36 the word which he sent to the sons of Israel, publishing glad tidings of peace through Jesus Christ; he is Lord of all men.
ইস্রায়েল জাতির কাছে এই হল সুসমাচারের বার্তা যে যীশু খ্রীষ্ট, যিনি সকলের প্রভু, তাঁর মাধ্যমে, ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে শান্তি স্থাপিত হয়েছে।
37 Ye yourselves know what was spoken of through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached,
যোহন বাপ্তিষ্মের বিষয়ে প্রচার করার পর গালীল থেকে শুরু করে সমস্ত যিহূদিয়ায় যা যা ঘটেছে, তা আপনাদের অজানা নেই—
38 relating to Jesus of Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were overpowered by the Devil; for God was with him.
ঈশ্বর কীভাবে নাসরতের যীশুকে পবিত্র আত্মায় ও পরাক্রমে অভিষিক্ত করেছিলেন এবং কীভাবেই বা তিনি বিভিন্ন স্থানে সকলের কল্যাণ করে বেড়াতেন ও দিয়াবলের ক্ষমতাধীন ব্যক্তিদের সুস্থ করতেন, কারণ ঈশ্বর তাঁর সহবর্তী ছিলেন।
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also slew by hanging him on a cross.
“ইহুদিদের দেশে ও জেরুশালেমে তিনি যা যা করেছিলেন, আমরা সেই সমস্ত বিষয়ের সাক্ষী। তারা তাঁকে ক্রুশে টাঙিয়ে হত্যা করেছিল।
40 Him God raised up on the third day, and caused him to be manifested,
কিন্তু ঈশ্বর তৃতীয় দিনে তাঁকে মৃতলোক থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছিলেন এবং তাঁকে প্রত্যক্ষ হতে দিয়েছিলেন।
41 not to all the people, but to witnesses before appointed by God, to ourselves, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead;
সব মানুষ তাঁকে দেখতে পায়নি, কিন্তু ঈশ্বর যাদের আগে থেকেই সাক্ষীরূপে মনোনীত করে রেখেছিলেন, সেই আমরাই মৃতলোক থেকে তাঁর উত্থাপিত হওয়ার পর তাঁকে দেখেছি ও তাঁর সঙ্গে খাওয়াদাওয়া করেছি।
42 and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who hath been appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.
তিনি সব জাতির কাছে প্রচার করতে ও সাক্ষ্য দিতে আমাদের এই আদেশ দিয়েছেন যে, তিনিই সেই ব্যক্তি, যাঁকে ঈশ্বর জীবিত ও মৃতদের বিচারক হওয়ার জন্য নিযুক্ত করেছেন।
43 To him all the prophets bear witness, that through his name every one that believeth in him shall receive forgiveness of sins.
ভাববাদীরা সকলে তাঁর সম্পর্কে সাক্ষ্য দিয়েছেন, যে তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করে, সে তাঁর নামের মাধ্যমে নিজের সব পাপের ক্ষমা লাভ করে।”
44 While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all that heard the word.
পিতর যখন এসব কথা বলছিলেন, সেই সময়, যত লোক সেই বাণী শুনছিল, তাদের উপরে পবিত্র আত্মা নেমে এলেন।
45 And those of the circumcision who believed, as many as came with Peter, were astonished that on the gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit;
সুন্নতপ্রাপ্ত যে বিশ্বাসীরা পিতরের সঙ্গে এসেছিলেন, তাঁরা অইহুদিদের উপরে পবিত্র আত্মার বরদান নেমে আসতে দেখে বিস্মিত হলেন।
46 for they heard them speaking with tongues, and magnifying God. Then answered Peter,
কারণ তাঁরা তাঁদের বিভিন্ন ভাষায় কথা বলতে ও ঈশ্বরের মহিমাকীর্তন করতে শুনলেন। তখন পিতর বললেন,
47 Can any one forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?
“আমাদেরই মতো এরাও পবিত্র আত্মা লাভ করেছে বলে কেউ কি এদের জলে বাপ্তিষ্ম গ্রহণ করতে বাধা দিতে পারে?”
48 And he commanded that they should be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they entreated him to remain some days.
তাই তিনি যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে তাদের বাপ্তাইজিত হওয়ার আদেশ দিলেন। পরে তাঁরা পিতরকে অনুনয় করলেন, যেন তিনি আরও কিছুদিন তাঁদের সঙ্গে থেকে যান।
