3 John 1
1 The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
Esta carta é escrita pelo presbítero para Gaio, meu querido amigo, a quem amo de verdade.
2 Beloved, in all things I pray that thou mayst prosper and be in health, as thy soul prospereth.
Meu amigo, eu oro, acima de tudo, para que você esteja indo bem e esteja com boa saúde, pois eu sei que está espiritualmente bem.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bore witness to thy truth, as thou walkest in truth.
Eu fiquei contente quando alguns irmãos chegaram e me disseram sobre o seu comprometimento com a verdade e sobre como você continua a viver no caminho da verdade.
4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children walk in the truth.
Nada me deixa mais feliz do que ouvir como meus queridos amigos estão seguindo a verdade.
5 Beloved, thou doest a faithful thing whatever thou doest to the brethren, and that to strangers,
Meu amigo, você mostra como é digno de confiança em seu trabalho ao cuidar dos irmãos, mesmo daqueles que não conhece.
6 who bore witness of thy love before the church; whom if thou send forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, thou wilt do well.
Eles falaram muito bem sobre o seu amor para toda a igreja daqui. Por favor, ajude essas pessoas em sua jornada, de uma forma que agrade a Deus,
7 For in behalf of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the gentiles.
pois eles viajam em nome do Senhor, sem aceitar qualquer ajuda das pessoas que não creem em Deus.
8 We therefore ought to sustain such persons, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth.
Nós devemos apoiá-los, para que possamos participar do seu trabalho de anunciar a verdade.
9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.
Eu escrevi sobre isso para a igreja, mas Diótrefes, que gosta de estar no comando, recusa aceitar nossa autoridade.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words; and not content therewith, he himself doth not receive the brethren, and those that would he forbiddeth, and casteth them out of the church.
Então, quando eu chegar aí, deixarei claro como ele está agindo. Ele está fazendo acusações maliciosas contra nós. E não satisfeito com isso, ele também se recusa a acolher quaisquer outros irmãos. Também não deixa que qualquer outra pessoa os receba e expulsa da igreja aqueles que os recebem.
11 Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God; he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
Meu amigo, imite o que é bom, e não o que é mau. Aqueles que fazem o bem pertencem a Deus. Já os que fazem o mal não conhecem Deus.
12 To Demetrius testimony hath been borne by all, and by the truth itself; yea, we also bear witness, and ye know that our witness is true.
Todos falam bem de Demétrio e até mesmo a verdade fala bem dele! Nós também falamos muito bem dele, e você sabe que falamos a verdade.
13 I had many things to write to thee, but I do not wish to write to thee with ink and pen;
Ainda tenho muitas coisas para lhe contar, mas não quero fazer isso por carta.
14 but I hope to see thee immediately, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
