2 Corinthians 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy the brother, to the church of God which is in Corinth, with all the holy who are in all Achaia:
Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ, selon la volonté de Dieu, et Timothée, notre frère, à l'assemblée de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, avec tous les saints qui sont dans toute l'Achaïe.
2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Fathers and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grâce et paix à vous, de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
3 Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
Béni soit le Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, le Père des miséricordes et Dieu de toute consolation,
4 who comforteth us in all our distress, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any distress by the comfort wherewith we are ourselves comforted by God;
qui nous console dans toute notre affliction, afin que nous puissions consoler ceux qui sont dans quelque affliction, par la consolation dont nous sommes nous-mêmes consolés par Dieu.
5 for as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so through Christ doth our comfort also overflow.
En effet, comme les souffrances de Christ nous abondent, de même notre consolation abonde aussi par Christ.
6 And whether we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation, which showeth its power in enabling you to bear patiently the same sufferings which we also endure; and our hope is steadfast in your behalf; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort and salvation,
Mais si nous sommes affligés, c'est pour votre consolation et votre salut. Si nous sommes consolés, c'est pour votre consolation, qui produit en vous la patience dans les mêmes souffrances que nous.
7 knowing that as ye are sharers in the sufferings, so also ye will be sharers in the comfort.
Notre espérance pour vous est inébranlable, sachant que, puisque vous avez part aux souffrances, vous avez aussi part à la consolation.
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our distress which came upon us in Asia, that it was exceedingly heavy upon us beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life;
Nous ne voulons pas, en effet, vous laisser dans l'ignorance, frères, de l'épreuve qui nous est arrivée en Asie: nous avons été accablés au-delà de nos forces, au point de désespérer même de la vie.
9 yea, we ourselves had within ourselves the sentence of death, that we might not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead;
Oui, nous avons eu nous-mêmes la sentence de mort au-dedans de nous-mêmes, afin que nous ne nous confiions pas en nous-mêmes, mais en Dieu qui ressuscite les morts,
10 who delivered us from such peril of death, and is delivering; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us,
qui nous a délivrés d'une si grande mort, et qui délivre, lui en qui nous avons mis notre espérance qu'il nous délivrera encore,
11 you also unitedly helping us by prayer, so that for this blessing bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many on your behalf.
vous aussi, vous vous associez en notre faveur par vos supplications, afin que, pour le don qui nous a été fait par l'intermédiaire de plusieurs, des remerciements soient rendus par plusieurs personnes en votre faveur.
12 For our glorying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and the sincerity which is of God, not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.
Car notre vantardise, c'est ceci: le témoignage de notre conscience que, dans la sainteté et la sincérité de Dieu, non dans la sagesse charnelle, mais dans la grâce de Dieu, nous nous sommes conduits dans le monde, et plus abondamment envers vous.
13 For we write no other things to you, than what ye read or even acknowledge. And I trust ye will acknowledge even to the end,
Car nous ne vous écrivons rien d'autre que ce que vous lisez ou même reconnaissez, et j'espère que vous reconnaîtrez jusqu'au bout -
14 as also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your glorying, as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
comme vous nous avez aussi reconnus en partie - que nous sommes votre vantardise, comme vous êtes aussi la nôtre, au jour de notre Seigneur Jésus.
15 And in this confidence it was my purpose to come to you before, that ye might receive a second benefit;
Dans cette confiance, j'étais résolu à venir d'abord chez toi, afin que tu en retires un second avantage,
16 and to go by way of you into Macedonia, and from Macedonia to come again to you, and by you to be forwarded on my way to Judaea.
à passer par toi en Macédoine, et de nouveau de Macédoine à venir chez toi, et à être envoyé par toi en voyage en Judée.
17 Having, then, this purpose, did I act with levity? Or in my purposes do I resolve according to the flesh, that with me there should be now yea, yea, and now nay, nay?
Quand j'ai conçu ces projets, ai-je fait preuve d'inconstance? Ou bien les choses que je projette, les projette-je selon la chair, pour qu'il y ait chez moi des « oui, oui » et des « non, non »?
18 But as God is faithful, our word to you is not yea and nay.
Mais comme Dieu est fidèle, notre parole à votre égard n'a pas été « Oui et non ».
19 For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us, by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not found yea and nay, but in him hath been found yea.
Car le Fils de Dieu, Jésus-Christ, que nous avons prêché parmi vous, moi, Silvain et Timothée, n'était pas « oui et non », mais en lui c'est « oui ».
20 For as to all the promises of God, in him is yea, and in him amen, to the glory of God through us.
En effet, quel que soit le nombre des promesses de Dieu, le « oui » est en lui. C'est pourquoi aussi par lui est l' « Amen », à la gloire de Dieu par nous.
21 Now he who maketh us with you steadfast in Christ, and anointed us, is God;
Or, celui qui nous a établis avec vous en Christ et nous a oints, c'est Dieu,
22 he who also sealed us, and gave the Spirit as a pledge in our hearts.
qui nous a aussi scellés et nous a donné l'acompte de l'Esprit dans nos cœurs.
23 But I call upon God as a witness against my soul, that it was to spare you that I came no more to Corinth;
Mais j'appelle Dieu en témoignage de mon âme, que, pour vous épargner, je ne suis pas venu à Corinthe.
24 not that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy. For in respect to faith ye stand firm.
Nous ne contrôlons pas votre foi, mais nous sommes compagnons de travail avec vous pour votre joie. Car vous tenez ferme dans la foi.
