1 Timothy 5
1 Do not sharply rebuke an aged man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men, as brethren;
Не докоряй старшому [чоловікові], а підбадьорюй [його, ] як батька, молодших – як братів,
2 the elder women, as mothers; the younger, as sisters, with all purity.
літніх [жінок] – як матерів, а молодих – як сестер, з усією чистотою.
3 Honor as widows those that are widows indeed.
Шануй вдів, які й справді є вдовами!
4 But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety to their own family, and to requite their parents; for this is acceptable before God.
Якщо ж вдова має дітей чи внуків, то нехай вони спершу навчаться побожно поводитися у своєму домі та відплачувати своїм батькам, бо це до вподоби Богові.
5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and left alone, hath set her hope on God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day;
Та, що насправді є вдовою, опинившись на самоті, покладає свою надію на Бога та вдень і вночі перебуває в проханнях і молитвах.
6 but she that giveth herself up to pleasure is dead while she liveth.
А та, що живе в розкоші, померла ще за життя.
7 These things also enjoin, that they may be blameless.
Тож наказуй їм це, щоб вони були [людьми, ] яким не можна дорікнути.
8 But if any one provideth not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
Якщо ж хтось не турбується про своїх, а тим паче про свою сім’ю, той зрікся віри та є гіршим від невіруючого.
9 Let a widow be put on the list when not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one husband,
Нехай вдовою вважається та, що має не менше шістдесяти років, була дружиною одного чоловіка
10 well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
та має [хорошу] репутацію за свої добрі справи: якщо виростила дітей, була гостинною, мила ноги святим, допомагала тим, що мали труднощі, та присвячувала себе всяким добрим ділам.
11 But younger widows refuse; for when they become wanton against Christ, they desire to marry;
Натомість молодших вдів оминай, адже коли їхні тілесні бажання віддаляють їх від Христа, вони хочуть [знову] вийти заміж.
12 falling into condemnation, because they have cast off their first faith;
Так [вони] накликають [на себе] суд, адже порушили першу віру.
13 and withal they learn to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also, and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
До того ж, ходячи від дому до дому, вони привчаються бути лінивими, і не тільки лінивими, але й пліткарками та надокучливими, говорячи, чого не слід.
14 I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, guide the house, give no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
Тому я хочу, щоб молоді [вдови] одружувались, народжували дітей, дбали про дім і не давали супротивнику нагоди для нападу.
15 For some have already turned aside after Satan.
Адже деякі вже збочили [та пішли] за сатаною.
16 If any man or woman that is a believer have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be burdened, that it may relieve those that are widows indeed.
Якщо віруюча [жінка] має вдів [у сім’ї], то нехай допоможе їм. Нехай церква не буде обтяжена, щоби могла допомагати справжнім вдовам.
17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor; especially they who labor in the word and in teaching.
Старійшини, які добре керують церквою, заслуговують подвійної шани, особливо ті, що старанно працюють у проповідуванні та навчанні.
18 For the Scripture saith, “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox while he is treading out the grain”; and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
Адже Писання каже: «Не зав’язуй рота волові, що молотить». І ще: «Робітник достойний своєї платні».
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation without two or three witnesses.
Не приймай жодного звинувачення проти старійшини, тільки якщо є двоє чи троє свідків.
20 Those that sin rebuke before all, that the rest also may fear.
Тих, хто згрішив, картай перед усіма, щоби й інші боялися.
21 I charge thee before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudging, doing nothing with partiality.
Я наполегливо прошу [тебе] перед Богом, Христом Ісусом та перед обраними ангелами: дотримуйся цього без пересуду, не роблячи нічого з упередженням.
22 Lay hands hastily on no one, neither share in other men's sins. Keep thyself pure.
Ні на кого не покладай рук поспішно. Не бери участі в чужих гріхах. Зберігай себе в чистоті.
23 No longer drink water only, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake, and thy frequent infirmities.
Не пий [лише] воду, а вживай трохи вина через твій шлунок і часті хвороби.
24 Some men's sins are openly manifest, going before them to judgment; and some men they follow after.
Гріхи деяких людей очевидні та випереджають [їх ще] до суду, а за деякими вони йдуть слідом.
25 In like manner also the good works of some are openly manifest; and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
Так само й добрі діла очевидні, а інші не можуть залишитись прихованими.
