< Psalms 9 >

1 [For the choir director; according to Muth-labben. A Psalm by David.] I will give thanks to YHWH with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.
Unto the end. For the secrets of the Son. A Psalm of David. I will confess to you, Lord, with my whole heart. I will recount all your wonders.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
I will rejoice and exult in you. I will sing a psalm to your name, O Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.
For my enemy will be turned back. They will be weakened and perish before your face.
4 For you have upheld my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.
For you have accomplished my judgment and my cause. You have sat upon the throne that judges justice.
5 You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
You have rebuked the Gentiles, and the impious one has perished. You have deleted their name in eternity and for all generations.
6 The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin; and the very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.
The spears of the enemy have failed in the end, and their cities, you have destroyed. Their memory has perished with a loud noise.
7 But YHWH reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.
But the Lord remains in eternity. He has prepared his throne in judgment.
8 And he will judge the world in righteousness. He will judge the peoples with equity.
And he will judge the whole world in equity. He will judge the people in justice.
9 YHWH will also be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
And the Lord has become a refuge for the poor, a helper in opportunity, in tribulation.
10 And those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, YHWH, have not forsaken those who seek you.
And may they hope in you, who know your name. For you have not abandoned those seeking you, Lord.
11 Sing praises to YHWH, who dwells in Zion, and declare among the people what he has done.
Sing a psalm to the Lord, who dwells in Zion. Announce his study among the Gentiles.
12 For he who takes revenge against murderers remembers them. He doesn't forget the cry of the afflicted.
Because of those who yearned for their blood, he has remembered them. He has not forgotten the cry of the poor.
13 Have mercy on me, YHWH. See my affliction by those who hate me. You lift me up from the gates of death,
Have mercy on me, Lord. See my humiliation from my enemies.
14 so that I may tell all your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in your salvation.
You lift me up from the gates of death, so that I may announce all your praises at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
15 The nations have fallen into the pit they had made. In the net which they hid, their feet are caught.
I will exult in your salvation. The Gentiles have become trapped in the ruin that they made. Their foot has been caught in the same snare that they themselves had hidden.
16 YHWH has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. (Higgaion, Selah)
The Lord will be recognized when making judgments. The sinner has been caught in the works of his own hands. (Pause)
17 The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God. (Sheol h7585)
The sinners will be turned into Hell: all the Gentiles who have forgotten God. (Sheol h7585)
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
For the poor will not be forgotten in the end. The patience of the poor will not perish in the end.
19 Arise, YHWH. Do not let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your presence.
Rise up, Lord: do not let man be strengthened. Let the Gentiles be judged in your sight.
20 Terrify them, YHWH. Let the nations know that they are only human. (Selah)
O Lord, establish a lawgiver over them, so that the Gentiles may know that they are only men. (Pause)
