< Proverbs 20 >
1 Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
El vino hace burlador: la cerveza, alborotador; y cualquiera que en él errare, no será sabio.
2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
Bramido, como de cachorro de león, es el miedo del rey: el que le hace enojar, peca contra su alma.
3 It is an honor for a person to keep away from strife, but every fool quarrels.
Honra es del hombre dejarse de pleito: mas todo insensato se envolverá en él.
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
El perezoso no ara a causa del invierno: mas él pedirá en la segada, y no hallará.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre: mas el hombre entendido le alcanzará.
6 Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
Muchos hombres pregonan cada cual el bien que han hecho: mas hombre de verdad ¿quién le hallará?
7 A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.
El justo que camina en su integridad, bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
El rey que está en el trono de juicio, con su mirar disipa todo mal.
9 Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"
¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón, limpio estoy de mi pecado?
10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to YHWH.
Doblada pesa, y doblada medida, abominación son a Jehová ambas cosas.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
El muchacho aun es conocido por sus obras, si su obra es limpia y recta.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, YHWH has made even both of them.
El oído oye, y el ojo ve: Jehová hizo aun ambas cosas.
13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
No ames el sueño, porque no te empobrezcas: abre tus ojos, hartarte has de pan.
14 "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
El que compra, dice: Malo es, malo es: mas en apartándose, él se alaba.
15 There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
Hay oro, y multitud de piedras preciosas: mas los labios sabios son vaso precioso.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
Quítale su ropa, porque fió al extraño; y préndale por la extraña.
17 Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira: mas después, su boca será llena de cascajo.
18 Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war.
Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan; y con industria se hace la guerra.
19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
El que descubre el secreto, anda en chismes; y con el que lisonjea de sus labios, no te entremetas.
20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
El que maldice a su padre, o a su madre, su candela será apagada en oscuridad tenebrosa.
21 An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end.
La herencia adquirida de priesa en el principio, su postrimería aun no será bendita.
22 Do not say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for YHWH, and he will save you.
No digas: Yo me vengaré: espera a Jehová, y él te salvará.
23 YHWH detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are no good.
Abominación son a Jehová las pesas dobladas; y el peso falso, no es bueno.
24 A man's steps are from YHWH; how then can man understand his way?
De Jehová son los pasos del hombre: el hombre pues, ¿cómo entenderá su camino?
25 It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
Lazo es al hombre tragar santidad; y después de los votos andar preguntando.
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
El rey sabio esparce los impíos; y sobre ellos hace tornar la rueda.
27 The spirit of man is YHWH's lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
Candela de Jehová es el alma del hombre, que escudriña lo secreto del vientre.
28 Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
Misericordia y verdad guardan al rey; y con clemencia sustenta su trono.
29 The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
La honra de los mancebos es su fortaleza; y la hermosura de los viejos, su vejez.
30 Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
Las señales de las heridas son medicina en el malo; y las plagas en lo secreto del vientre.
