< Proverbs 11 >

1 A false balance is an abomination to YHWH, but accurate weights are his delight.
Ko e fai kākā ʻi he fakamamafa meʻa ko e fakalielia kia Sihova: ka ʻoku ne leleiʻia ʻi he fakamamafa totonu.
2 When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.
‌ʻOka hoko ʻae fielahi, ʻoku hoko foki mo e mā: ka ʻoku ʻi he angavaivai ʻae poto.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.
‌ʻE fakahinohinoʻi ʻae angatonu ʻe heʻenau fai totonu: ka ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae angahala ʻe heʻenau talangataʻa.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
‌ʻOku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae koloa ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe houhau: ka ʻoku fakahaofi mei he mate ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
5 The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
‌ʻE fakatonutonu ʻae hala ʻoe haohaoa ʻi heʻene māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻe hinga ʻae angahala ʻi heʻene angahala ʻaʻana.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but the unfaithful will be trapped by evil desires.
‌ʻE fakamoʻui ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi heʻenau angatonu: ka ʻe moʻua ʻae angahala ʻi heʻenau kovi ʻanautolu.
7 When a wicked man dies, hope perishes, and expectation of power comes to nothing.
‌ʻOka mate ʻae tangata angahala, ʻe ʻauha ai ʻene ʻamanaki: pea ʻoku ʻauha mo e ʻamanaki ʻoe taʻeangatonu.
8 A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
‌ʻOku fakamoʻui ʻae māʻoniʻoni mei he mamahi, pea kuo tongia ia ʻe he tangata angahala.
9 With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge.
‌ʻOku fakamalaʻia ʻe he tangata kākā ʻa hono kāinga ʻaki hono ngutu: ka ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻilo ʻe fakamoʻui ʻae angatonu.
10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices. When the wicked perish, there is shouting.
‌ʻOku fiefia ʻae kolo ʻi he monūʻia ʻae māʻoniʻoni: pea ʻi he mate ʻae angahala ʻoku ai ʻae mavava.
11 By the blessing of the upright, the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
‌ʻOku hakeakiʻi ʻae kolo ʻi he tāpuaki ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku holoki hifo ia ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angahala.
12 One who despises his neighbor is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding holds his peace.
Ko ia ʻoku masiva poto ʻoku ne fehiʻa ki hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku fakalongo pē ʻae tangata poto.
13 One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret.
‌ʻOku fakahā ʻae ngaahi tala fufū ʻe ia ʻoku fakalanga lau: ka ko ia ʻoku loto totonu ʻoku ne ʻufiʻufi ʻae meʻa.
14 Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.
‌ʻI he ʻikai ha faʻa fakakaukau ʻoku hinga ʻae kakai: ka ʻoku ai ʻae maluʻi ʻi he fakakaukau ʻae toko lahi.
15 He who is collateral for a stranger will suffer for it, but he who refuses pledges of collateral is secure.
Ko ia ʻoku ne tongia ha taha foʻou ʻe mamahi ai ia: pea ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ke fai ʻae fetongi ʻe tuʻutuʻumālie ia.
16 A gracious woman obtains honor, but she who hates virtue makes a throne for dishonor. The slothful become destitute, and ruthless men grab wealth.
‌ʻOku maʻu ʻi he fefine angalelei ʻae ongoongolelei: pea ʻoku maʻu pe ki he kakai mālohi ʻenau koloa.
17 The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
‌ʻOku fai lelei ʻe he tangata angaʻofa ki hono laumālie ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoka anga fakamālohi ʻoku ne fakamamahiʻi hono kakano ʻoʻona.
18 Wicked people earn deceitful wages, but one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
‌ʻOku fai ʻe he angahala ʻae ngāue fakakākaaʻi: ka ʻe maʻu ʻae totongi moʻoni ʻe ia ʻoku tūtuuʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni.
19 He who is truly righteous gets life. He who pursues evil gets death.
‌ʻO hangē ʻoku fakatau ʻae māʻoniʻoni ki he moʻui: ʻoku pehē, ko ia ʻoku tulituli pau ki he kovi ʻoku ne fai ia ke ne mate ai ia.
20 Those who are perverse in heart are an abomination to YHWH, but those whose ways are blameless are his delight.
Ko kinautolu ʻoku loto pikopiko ʻoku fakalielia kia Sihova: ka ʻoku fiemālie ia ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku totonu honau hala.
21 Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
Neongo ʻae fepukeaki ʻae nima ʻoe kakai angahala ʻe ʻikai taʻetautea ʻakinautolu: ka ʻe fakamoʻui ʻae hako ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
22 Like a gold ring in a pig's snout, is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
‌ʻO hangē ko e mama koula ʻi he ihu ʻoe puaka, ʻoku pehē ʻae fefine hoihoifua ʻoku ʻikai ke anga fakapotopoto.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.
‌ʻOku lelei maʻu pe ʻae holi ʻae kakai māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e houhau ʻoku ʻamanaki ki ai ʻae angahala.
24 There is one who scatters, and increases yet more. There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty.
‌ʻOku ai ʻaia ʻoku faʻa foaki, kae maʻu ai ʻo lahi: pea ʻoku ai ʻoku taʻofi ʻi he meʻa ʻoku totonu ke fai, ka ʻoku tupu ai ʻa ʻene masiva.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself.
‌ʻE fakamaʻumeʻaʻi ʻae loto ʻoku faʻa ʻofa: pea ko ia ʻoku faʻa fakaviviku ʻe fakaviviku ia foki.
26 People curse someone who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
‌ʻE fakamalaʻia ia ʻe he kakai ʻaia ʻoku taʻofi ʻae meʻakai: ka ʻe hilifaki ʻae monūʻia ki hono ʻulu ʻaia ʻoku faʻa fakatau ia.
27 He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come to him.
‌ʻOku maʻu ʻae ongoongolelei ʻe ia ʻoku kumi fakamātoato ki he lelei: ka ko ia ʻoku kumi ki he kovi, ʻe hoko mai pe ia kiate ia.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.
‌ʻE hinga ia ʻaia ʻoku falala ki heʻene koloa: ka ʻe tupu ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻo hangē ko e vaʻa.
29 He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind. The foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Ko ia ʻoku faʻa fakafiuʻi ʻa hono fale ʻoʻona, ʻe maʻu pe ʻe ia ʻae matangi: pea ʻe hoko ʻae vale ko e tamaioʻeiki kiate ia ʻoku poto hono loto.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he who plucks that life is wise.
Ko e fua ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻoku hangē ko e ʻakau ʻoe moʻui; pea ko ia ʻoku lavaʻi ʻae ngaahi laumālie ʻoku poto ia.
31 If the righteous is delivered with difficulty, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?
Vakai, ʻe maʻu totongi ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi he māmani: ka ʻe lahi hake ʻene maʻu totongi ʻe he angakovi mo e angahala.
