Matthew 3
1 And in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea
Or, en ces jours-là, vint Jean-Baptiste prêchant dans le désert de Judée,
2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
Et disant: Faites pénitence, car le royaume des cieux approche.
3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'"
C’est lui dont a parlé le prophète Isaïe, disant: Voix de quelqu’un qui crie dans le désert: Préparez la voie du Seigneur faites droits ses sentiers.
4 Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Or Jean avait un vêtement de poils de chameau et une ceinture de cuir autour de ses reins; et sa nourriture était des sauterelles et du miel sauvage.
5 Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him,
Alors accourait à lui Jérusalem, toute la Judée et tout le pays autour du Jourdain;
6 and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
Et ils étaient baptisés par lui dans le Jourdain, confessant leurs péchés.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Or voyant beaucoup de Pharisiens et de Saducéens venant à son baptême, il leur dit: Race de vipères, qui vous a montré à fuir devant la colère qui va venir?
8 Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance,
Faites donc de dignes fruits de pénitence.
9 and do not think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Et ne songez pas à dire en vous-mêmes: Nous avons Abraham pour père; car je vous le dis, Dieu peut, de ces pierres mêmes, susciter des enfants à Abraham.
10 "Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
Déjà la cognée a été mise à la racine des arbres. Tout arbre donc qui ne produit pas de bon fruit sera coupé et jeté au feu.
11 I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Moi, à la vérité, je vous baptise dans l’eau pour la pénitence; mais celui qui doit venir après moi est plus puissant que moi; et je ne suis pas digne de porter sa chaussure: lui-même vous baptisera dans l’Esprit saint et dans le feu.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."
Son van est dans sa main, et il nettoyera entièrement son aire: il amassera son blé dans le grenier; mais il brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne peut s’éteindre.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
Alors Jésus vint de la Galilée au Jourdain vers Jean pour être baptisé par lui.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?"
Or Jean le détournait, disant: C’est moi qui dois être baptisé par vous, et vous venez à moi!
15 But Jesus, answering, said to him, "Allow it to happen now, for this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
Mais, répondant, Jésus lui dit: Laisse maintenant, car c’est ainsi qu’il convient que nous accomplissions toute justice. Alors Jean le laissa.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water; and look, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
Or ayant été baptisé, Jésus sortit aussitôt de l’eau; et voici que les cieux lui furent ouverts: il vit l’Esprit de Dieu descendant en forme de colombe et venant sur lui.
17 And look, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Et voici une voix du ciel disant: Celui-ci est mon fils bien-aimé en qui j’ai mis mes complaisances.
