18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened like this. His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, and before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
Yesu Kristo dzidzi va yi ale: Wodo Maria, Yesu dada ŋugbe na Yosef be wòaɖe, gake hafi woava kpe la, wokpɔ be Maria fɔ fu to Gbɔgbɔ Kɔkɔe la me.
19 And Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.

20 But when he thought about these things, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
Ke esi wònɔ nu siawo ŋu bum la, mawudɔla aɖe ɖe eɖokui fiae le drɔ̃eƒe, yɔe gblɔ nɛ be, “Yosef, David ƒe vi, mègavɔ̃ srɔ̃wò Maria kpɔkplɔ be wòava nɔ gbɔwò o, elabena fu si wòfɔ la, Gbɔgbɔ Kɔkɔe la mee wòtso.

22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
