< Judges 2 >

1 The angel of YHWH came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, "I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you:
Pea naʻe haʻu ʻae ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova mei Kilikali ki Pokimi, ʻo ne pehē, “Naʻaku ʻo hake ʻakimoutolu mei ʻIsipite, pea kuo u ʻomi ʻakimoutolu ki he fonua ʻaia naʻaku fuakava ai ki hoʻomou ngaahi tamai; pea ne u pehē, ‘ʻE ʻikai ʻaupito te u liʻaki ʻeku fuakava mo kimoutolu.
2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not listened to my voice: why have you done this?
3 Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they will become your adversaries, and their gods shall be a snare to you."
Ko ia kuo u lea foki ʻo pehē, ʻE ʻikai te u kapusi ʻakinautolu mei homou ʻao: ka tenau hoko [ko e ngaahi talaʻi ʻakau ]ʻi homou vakavaka, pea ko honau ngaahi ʻotua ko e tauhele kiate kimoutolu.”
4 It happened, when the angel of YHWH spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi he lea ʻae ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova ʻaki ʻae ngaahi lea ni ki he fānau kotoa pē ʻa ʻIsileli, naʻe hiki hake honau leʻo ʻe he kakai, ʻo tangi.
5 They called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there to YHWH.
Pea naʻa nau ui hono hingoa ʻoe potu ko ia ko Pokimi: pea naʻa nau fai ʻi ai ʻae feilaulau kia Sihova.
6 Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man to his inheritance to possess the land.
Pea ʻi he tuku ʻe Siosiua ʻae kakai ke ʻalu; naʻe ʻalu ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻae tangata taki taha kotoa pē ki hono tofiʻa ke maʻu ʻae fonua.
7 The people served YHWH all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of YHWH that he had worked for Israel.
Pea naʻe tauhi ʻa Sihova ʻe he kakai ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē ʻo Siosiua, pea mo e ngaahi ʻaho kotoa pē ʻoe kau mātuʻa naʻa nau moʻui fuoloa ange ʻia Siosiua, ʻakinautolu naʻe mamata ki he ngaahi ngāue lahi ʻa Sihova, ʻaia naʻa ne fai maʻa ʻIsileli.
8 Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of YHWH, died, being one hundred ten years old.
Pea naʻe pekia ʻa Siosiua ko e foha ʻo Nuni ko e tamaioʻeiki ʻa Sihova, kuo teau taʻu hono motuʻa mo e taʻu ʻe hongofulu.
9 They buried him in the territory of his inheritance in Timnath Serah, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.
Pea naʻa nau fai hono putu ʻi he veʻe fonua ʻo hono tofiʻa ʻi Timinate-Helesi, ʻi he moʻunga ʻo ʻIfalemi, ʻi hono potu tokelau ʻoe moʻunga ko Keasi.
10 And all that generation were also gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know YHWH, nor the works which he had done for Israel.
Pea naʻe tānaki foki ʻae toʻutangata kotoa pē ko ia ki heʻenau ngaahi tamai; pea naʻe tupu hake ʻae toʻutangata ʻe taha ʻo hoko mo kinautolu, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai tenau ʻilo ʻa Sihova, pe ko e ngaahi ngāue foki naʻe fai ʻe ia maʻa ʻIsileli.
11 The children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of YHWH, and served the Baals;
Pea naʻe fai kovi ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, pea naʻa [nau ]tauhi ʻa Peali:
12 and they forsook YHWH, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them: and they provoked YHWH to anger.
Pea naʻa nau liʻaki ʻa Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi ʻakinautolu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻonau muimui ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻi he ngaahi ʻotua ʻoe kakai naʻe nofo takatakai ʻiate kinautolu, ʻonau punou hifo ʻakinautolu kiate kinautolu, ʻo fakatupu ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova.
13 They forsook YHWH, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
Pea naʻa nau liʻaki ʻa Sihova, ʻo tauhi ʻa Peali mo ʻAsitelote.
14 The anger of YHWH was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of marauders who plundered them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
15 Wherever they went out, the hand of YHWH was against them for harm, as YHWH had spoken, and as YHWH had sworn to them: and they were in great distress.
Ko e ngaahi potu kotoa pē naʻa nau ʻalu ki ai, naʻe hiki ai ʻae nima ʻo Sihova kiate kinautolu ki he kovi, ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻa Sihova, pea hangē ko e fuakava ʻa Sihova kiate kinautolu: pea naʻa nau mamahi lahi.
16 YHWH raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.
Ka neongo ia naʻe fokotuʻu hake ʻe Sihova ʻae kau fakamaau, ʻaia naʻe fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu mei he nima ʻokinautolu naʻe maumauʻi ʻakinautolu.
17 Yet they did not listen to their judges; for they played the prostitute after other gods, and bowed themselves down to them: they turned aside quickly out of the way in which their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of YHWH; but they did not do so.
Ka naʻe ʻikai tenau fie fanongo ki honau kau fakamaau, ka naʻa nau ʻalu holi kovi pe ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ke punou hifo ʻakinautolu ki ai: naʻa nau tafoki vave mei he hala ʻaia naʻe ʻalu ai ʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻi [heʻenau ]fai talangofua ki he ngaahi fekau ʻa Sihova: he naʻe ʻikai tenau fai pehē.
18 When YHWH raised up judges for them, then YHWH was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it grieved YHWH because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.
Pea ʻi he fokotuʻu ʻe Sihova ʻae kau fakamaau kiate kinautolu, pea naʻe ʻi he fakamaau ʻa Sihova, ʻo ne fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu mei he nima ʻo honau ngaahi fili ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho kotoa pē ʻoe fakamaau: he naʻe fakatomala ʻa Sihova ko e meʻa ʻi heʻenau ngaahi toʻe koeʻuhi ko kinautolu naʻe fakamamahiʻi ʻakinautolu mo fakafiuʻi ʻakinautolu.
19 But it happened, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them; they did not cease from their practices, and they did not turn aside from their stubborn ways.
Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi he pekia leva ʻae fakamaau, naʻa nau tafoki ʻo fakahalaʻi lahi ʻaupito hake ʻakinautolu ʻi heʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻi he muimui ʻi he ngaahi ʻotua kehe ke tauhi ʻakinautolu, ʻo punou hifo ki ai; naʻe ʻikai tenau tuku ʻenau fai ki honau faianga, pe mei he anga mālohi ʻanautolu.
20 The anger of YHWH was kindled against Israel; and he said, "Because this nation has transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not obeyed my voice;
Pea naʻe tupu ʻo vela ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova ki ʻIsileli; pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “Ko e meʻa ʻi he liʻaki ʻe he kakai ni ʻeku fuakava ʻaia naʻaku fekau ki heʻenau ngaahi tamai, pea ʻoku ʻikai tenau tokanga ki hoku leʻo;
21 I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died;
Ngata mei heni, ʻe ʻikai te u kapusi mei honau ʻao ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga naʻe tuku ʻe Siosiua ʻi heʻene pekia;
22 that by them I may test Israel, whether they will keep the way of YHWH to walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or not."
Koeʻuhi ke u ʻahiʻahiʻi ʻa ʻIsileli ʻiate kinautolu, ke ʻilo pe tenau tauhi ʻae hala ʻo Sihova ke ʻalu ʻi ai, ʻo hangē hono tauhi ia ʻe heʻenau ngaahi tamai, pe ʻikai.”
23 So YHWH left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
