Joshua 2
1 And Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two young men out of Shittim as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, and Jericho." And the two young men went and came to Jericho and entered into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.
Und Joschua, der Sohn Nuns, sandte im Stillen von Schittim zwei Männer als Kundschafter und sagte ihnen: Gehet, beseht das Land und Jericho. Und sie gingen und kamen in das Haus eines Weibes, einer Buhlerin, und ihr Name war Rachab, und sie legten sich da nieder.
2 The king of Jericho was told, "Look, men of the children of Israel came in here to spy out the land."
Und sie sagten dem Könige von Jericho und sprachen: Siehe, es sind in dieser Nacht Männer von den Söhnen Israels hierher hereingekommen, um das Land auszuforschen.
3 The king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who came to you tonight; for they have come to spy out all the land."
Und der König von Jericho sandte zu Rachab und sprach: Bringe die Männer, die zu dir hereingekommen, heraus, die in dein Haus eingegangen; denn sie sind hereingekommen, das ganze Land auszuforschen.
4 The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they came from.
Das Weib aber nahm die zwei Männer und verbarg sie und sagte: Es ist also, die Männer sind hereingekommen; aber ich wußte nicht, von wannen sie waren.
5 It happened about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went, I do not know. Pursue them quickly; for you will overtake them."
Und als man das Tor schließen wollte in der Finsternis, gingen die Männer hinaus; ich weiß nicht, wohin die Männer gegangen sind. Setzet ihnen eilends nach; denn ihr werdet sie erreichen.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.
Sie hatte sie aber auf das Dach hinaufsteigen lassen und mit Flachsstengeln verdeckt, die auf dem Dach von ihr waren zurechtgelegt worden.
7 The men pursued them the way to the Jordan to the fords: and as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
Und die Männer setzten ihnen nach auf dem Wege nach dem Jordan, nach den Furten, und sie schlossen das Tor hinter ihnen zu, da die hinausgegangen waren, die ihnen nachsetzten.
8 Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof;
Ehe sie sich aber niederlegten, da stieg sie zu ihnen hinauf auf das Dach,
9 and she said to the men, "I know that YHWH has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
Und sprach zu den Männern: Ich weiß, daß Jehovah euch das Land gegeben hat, und daß ein Schrecken vor euch auf uns gefallen ist, und alle Einwohner des Landes vor euch zerfließen.
10 For we have heard how YHWH dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
Denn wir haben gehört, wie Jehovah die Wasser des Schilfmeeres vor euch vertrocknete, als ihr aus Ägypten auszogt, und was ihr den zwei Königen des Amoriters, dem Sichon und dem Og, jenseits des Jordans getan, die ihr verbannt habt.
11 As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for YHWH your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
Und wir haben es gehört, und nun ist unser Herz zerschmolzen und der Geist ist in keinem Mann mehr aufrecht vor euch; denn Jehovah, euer Gott, Welcher ist Gott in den Himmeln oben und auf Erden unten.
12 Now therefore, please swear to me by YHWH, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token;
Und nun schwöret mir doch bei Jehovah, daß, wie ich an euch Barmherzigkeit getan, so auch ihr Barmherzigkeit tut an dem Hause meines Vaters; und gebet mir ein Zeichen der Wahrheit,
13 and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death."
Daß ihr meinen Vater und meine Mutter und meine Brüder und meine Schwestern und alles, was sie haben, am Leben lasset und unsere Seelen vom Tode errettet.
14 The men said to her, "Our life for yours, even to death, if you do not talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when YHWH gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."
Und die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Unsere Seele sei statt eurer des Todes. Wenn ihr dies, unsere Sache nicht ansaget, so soll geschehen, daß wir, wenn Jehovah uns das Land gibt, Barmherzigkeit und Wahrheit an dir tun.
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
Und sie ließ dieselben an einem Stricke durch das Fenster hinab; denn ihr Haus war mit der Wand in der Stadtmauer, und in der Stadtmauer wohnte sie.
16 She said to them, "Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way."
Und sie sagte ihnen: Gehet nach dem Berge, daß, die euch nachsetzen, nicht auf euch stoßen, und versteckt euch dort drei Tage, bis die euch nachsetzen, zurückkehren, und hernach geht eures Weges.
17 The men said to her, "We will be guiltless of this your oath which you have made us to swear.
Und die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Wir sind dieses deines Schwures ledig, den du uns hast schwören lassen.
18 Look, when we come into the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which you did let us down by. You shall gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household.
Siehe, so wir kommen in das Land, sollst du diese Schnur von Scharlachfaden in das Fenster binden, durch das du uns herabgelassen hast, und deinen Vater und deine Mutter und deine Brüder und das ganze Haus deines Vaters zu dir ins Haus versammeln.
19 It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
Und es geschehe, daß jeder, der aus der Tür deines Hauses hinaus auf die Gasse geht, dessen Blut sei auf seinem Haupt, und wir sind unschuldig. Jeder aber, der bei dir im Hause ist, dessen Blut komme auf unser Haupt, so eine Hand wider ihn sein wird.
20 But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you have made us to swear."
Und wenn du diese unsere Sache ansagst, so sind wir ledig des Schwures, den du uns schwören ließest.
21 She said, "According to your words, so be it." She sent them away, and they departed. She tied the scarlet line in the window.
Und sie sprach: Nach euren Worten, so sei es! Und sie entließ dieselben und sie gingen; sie aber band die Scharlachschnur in das Fenster.
22 They went, and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but did not find them.
Und sie gingen und kamen auf den Berg und blieben allda drei Tage, bis die, so ihnen nachgesetzt, zurückgekehrt waren. Und die, so ihnen nachgesetzt, hatten auf dem ganzen Wege gesucht und sie nicht gefunden.
23 Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had happened to them.
Und die zwei Männer kehrten zurück und kamen vom Berge herab und setzten über und kamen zu Joschua, dem Sohne Nuns und erzählten ihm alles, was sie betroffen hatte;
24 They said to Joshua, "Truly YHWH has delivered into our hands all the land. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us."
Und sprachen zu Joschua: Jehovah hat das ganze Land in unsre Hand gegeben; und alle Einwohner des Landes zerfließen auch vor uns.
