John 11
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.
Un hombre estaba enfermo, Lázaro, de Betania, del pueblo de María y de su hermana Marta.
2 It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother, Lazarus, was sick.
Era aquella María, que había ungido al Señor con ungüento y enjugado sus pies con sus cabellos, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo.
3 The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, "Lord, look, the one you love is sick."
Las hermanas, pues, enviaron a decirle: “Señor, he aquí que está enfermo aquel a quien tienes gran afecto.”
4 But when Jesus heard it, he said, "This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God's Son may be glorified by it."
Pero Jesús, al oírlo, dijo: “Esta enfermedad no es para la muerte, sino para la gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.”
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro.
6 When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.
Por eso, al saber que estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días en el lugar donde estaba.
7 Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go into Judea again."
Luego, después de esto, dijo a los discípulos: “Vamos a Judea de nuevo”.
8 The disciples told him, "Rabbi, the Jewish leaders were just trying to stone you, and are you going there again?"
Los discípulos le preguntaron: “Rabí, los judíos querían apedrearte. ¿Vas a ir allí de nuevo?”
9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
Jesús respondió: “¿No hay doce horas de luz? Si un hombre camina de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.
10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."
Pero si un hombre camina de noche, tropieza, porque la luz no está en él”.
11 He said these things, and after that, he said to them, "Our friend, Lazarus, has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep."
Dijo estas cosas, y después les dijo: “Nuestro amigo Lázaro se ha dormido, pero yo voy para despertarlo del sueño.”
12 Then the disciples said to him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover."
Entonces los discípulos dijeron: “Señor, si se ha dormido, se recuperará”.
13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.
Ahora bien, Jesús había hablado de su muerte, pero ellos pensaron que hablaba de descansar en el sueño.
14 So Jesus said to them plainly then, "Lazarus is dead.
Entonces Jesús les dijo claramente: “Lázaro ha muerto.
15 I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let us go to him."
Me alegro por vosotros de no haber estado allí, para que creáis. Sin embargo, vayamos a verlo”.
16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us go also, that we may die with him."
Entonces Tomás, que se llama Dídimo, dijo a sus condiscípulos: “Vayamos también nosotros, para morir con él.”
17 So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
Cuando llegó Jesús, se dio cuenta de que ya llevaba cuatro días en el sepulcro.
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away.
Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalén, a unos quince pasos.
19 Many of the Jewish people had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
Muchos de los judíos se habían reunido con las mujeres en torno a Marta y María, para consolarlas por su hermano.
20 Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.
Cuando Marta se enteró de que Jesús venía, fue a recibirlo, pero María se quedó en la casa.
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died.
Entonces Marta dijo a Jesús: “Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto.
22 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."
Incluso ahora sé que todo lo que pidas a Dios, Dios te lo dará”.
23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
Jesús le dijo: “Tu hermano resucitará”.
24 Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
Marta le dijo: “Sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el último día”.
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
Jesús le dijo: “Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí seguirá viviendo, aunque muera.
El que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees en esto?” (aiōn g165)
27 She said to him, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who comes into the world."
Ella le dijo: “Sí, Señor. He llegado a creer que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que viene al mundo”.
28 And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, "The Teacher is here, and is calling you."
Cuando hubo dicho esto, se fue y llamó a María, su hermana, en secreto, diciendo: “El Maestro está aquí y te llama.”
29 When she heard this, she arose quickly, and went to him.
Al oír esto, se levantó rápidamente y fue hacia él.
30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.
Pero Jesús no había entrado aún en la aldea, sino que estaba en el lugar donde Marta lo había encontrado.
31 Then the Judeans who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there.
Entonces los judíos que estaban con ella en la casa y la consolaban, al ver que María se levantaba rápidamente y salía, la siguieron diciendo: “Va al sepulcro a llorar allí.”
32 Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died."
Por eso, cuando María llegó a donde estaba Jesús y lo vio, se postró a sus pies, diciéndole: “Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto.”
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Judeans weeping who came with her, he was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled,
Cuando Jesús la vio llorar, y a los judíos que venían con ella, gimió en el espíritu y se turbó,
34 and said, "Where have you put him?" They told him, "Lord, come and see."
y dijo: “¿Dónde lo habéis puesto?” Le dijeron: “Señor, ven a ver”.
35 Jesus wept.
Jesús lloró.
36 The Judeans therefore said, "See how he loved him."
Por eso los judíos decían: “¡Vean cuánto afecto le tenía!”.
37 But some of them said, "Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?"
Algunos de ellos decían: “¿No podía este hombre, que abrió los ojos del ciego, evitar que éste muriera?”
38 So Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
Jesús, gimiendo de nuevo en su interior, llegó al sepulcro. Era una cueva, y una piedra estaba apoyada en ella.
39 Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."
Jesús dijo: “Quita la piedra”. Marta, la hermana del que había muerto, le dijo: “Señor, a estas alturas hay un hedor, pues lleva cuatro días muerto”.
40 Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see God's glory?"
Jesús le dijo: ¿No te dije que, si crees, verás la gloria de Dios?”
41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, "Father, I thank you that you listened to me.
Entonces quitaron la piedra del lugar donde yacía el muerto. Jesús levantó los ojos y dijo: “Padre, te agradezco que me hayas escuchado.
42 I know that you always listen to me, but because of the crowd that stands around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me."
Sé que siempre me escuchas, pero a causa de la multitud que está alrededor he dicho esto, para que crean que tú me has enviado.”
43 When he had said this, he shouted with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."
Cuando hubo dicho esto, gritó a gran voz: “¡Lázaro, ven afuera!”
44 The man who had died came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Free him, and let him go."
El que estaba muerto salió, atado de pies y manos con vendas, y su rostro estaba envuelto con un paño. Jesús les dijo: “Libéralo y déjalo ir”.
45 Therefore many of the Judeans, who came to Mary and had seen the things which he did, believed in him.
Por eso, muchos de los judíos que se acercaron a María y vieron lo que hacía Jesús creyeron en él.
46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
Pero algunos de ellos se fueron a los fariseos y les contaron las cosas que Jesús había hecho.
47 The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we doing? For this man does many signs.
Entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos reunieron un consejo y dijeron: “¿Qué hacemos? Porque este hombre hace muchas señales.
48 If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."
Si lo dejamos así, todos creerán en él, y vendrán los romanos y nos quitarán nuestro lugar y nuestra nación.”
49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all,
Pero uno de ellos, Caifás, siendo sumo sacerdote aquel año, les dijo: “Vosotros no sabéis nada en absoluto,
50 nor do you consider that it is advantageous for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish."
ni consideráis que nos convenga que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y que no perezca toda la nación.”
51 Now he did not say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
Pero él no dijo esto por sí mismo, sino que, siendo sumo sacerdote aquel año, profetizó que Jesús moriría por la nación,
52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
y no sólo por la nación, sino también para reunir en uno a los hijos de Dios que están dispersos.
53 So from that day on they plotted to kill him.
Así que desde aquel día tomaron consejo para darle muerte.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Judeans, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim; and stayed there with his disciples.
Así que Jesús ya no andaba abiertamente entre los judíos, sino que se fue de allí al campo, cerca del desierto, a una ciudad llamada Efraín. Allí se quedó con sus discípulos.
55 Now the Jewish Passover was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
Se acercaba la Pascua de los judíos. Muchos subieron del campo a Jerusalén antes de la Pascua, para purificarse.
56 Then they sought for Jesus and spoke one with another, as they stood in the temple, "What do you think—that he is not coming to the feast at all?"
Entonces buscaban a Jesús y hablaban entre sí, estando en el templo: “¿Qué pensáis, que no viene a la fiesta?”
57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might arrest him.
Ahora bien, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos habían ordenado que si alguien sabía dónde estaba, lo denunciara para poder apresarlo.
