James 3
1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
Meus irmãos, não sejaes mestres, sabendo que receberemos maior juizo.
2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
Porque todos tropeçamos em muitas coisas. Se alguem não tropeça em palavra, o tal varão é perfeito, e poderoso para tambem refrear todo o corpo.
3 Now if we put bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us, we guide their whole body.
Eis aqui que nós pomos freio nas boccas aos cavallos, para que nos obedeçam; e governamos todo o seu corpo.
4 And look at the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
Vêde tambem as náos que, sendo tão grandes, e levadas de impetuosos ventos, se viram com um bem pequeno leme para onde quer que quizer a vontade d'aquelle que as governa.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest.
Assim tambem a lingua é um pequeno membro, e gloría-se de grandes coisas. Vêde quão grande bosque um pequeno fogo incendeia.
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
A lingua tambem é fogo, mundo de iniquidade; assim a lingua está posta entre os nossos membros, e contamina todo o corpo, e inflamma a roda do nosso nascimento, e é inflammada do inferno. (Geenna g1067)
7 For all kinds of animals, and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, are being tamed and have been tamed by humankind.
Porque toda a natureza, tanto de bestas féras como de aves, tanto de reptis como de animaes do mar, se amansa e foi domada pela natureza humana;
8 But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Mas nenhum homem pode domar a lingua. É um mal que não se pode refrear, está cheia de peçonha mortal.
9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God.
Com ella bemdizemos a Deus e Pae, e com ella maldizemos os homens, feitos á similhança de Deus.
10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
De uma mesma bocca procede benção e maldição. Meus irmãos, não convém que isto se faça assim.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
Porventura deita alguma fonte de um mesmo manancial agua doce e agua amargosa?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Nor is salt water able to produce sweet.
Meus irmãos, pode tambem a figueira produzir azeitonas, ou a videira figos? Assim tambem nenhuma fonte pode produzir agua salgada e agua doce.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
Quem d'entre vós é sabio e entendido? Mostre por seu bom trato as suas obras em mansidão de sabedoria.
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.
Porém, se tendes amarga inveja, e contenda em vosso coração, não vos glorieis, nem mintaes contra a verdade;
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
Esta sabedoria não é sabedoria que vem do alto, mas é terrena, animal e diabolica.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
Porque onde ha inveja e contenda ahi ha perturbação e toda a obra perversa.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
Mas a sabedoria que do alto vem é, primeiramente, pura, depois pacifica, moderada, tratavel, cheia de misericordia e de bons fructos, sem parcialidade, e sem hypocrisia.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Ora o fructo da justiça semeia-se na paz, para os que exercitam a paz.
