< James 2 >

1 My brothers, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality.
Ta ishato, hintte nu bonchcho Godaa Yesuus Kiristtoosa ammaniyabaa gidikko, asa som77o xeellidi ase bonchchofite.
2 For if someone with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor person in filthy clothing also comes in;
Leemisos, worqqa migiddo aathidi, lo77o ma7o ma77ida dure asi hintte shiiquwa yis. Qassi curqqa ma7o ma77ida manqo asikka yis.
3 and you pay special attention to the one who wears the fine clothing, and say, "Sit here in a good place;" but you tell the poor person, "Stand there," or "Sit by my footstool."
Lo77o ma7o ma77ida addiya hintte aathi bonchchidi, “Ne hayssan lo77iya oydiyan utta” gidi, qassi manqo addiya, “Ne yan eqqa woykko hayssan ta tohuwa matan sa7an utta” geeta.
4 Have you not discriminated among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
Yaatin, hinttee, hintte giddon shaaketethi medhdheyssatanne iita qofara de7iya daynnata mela gidekketiyye?
5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Did not God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
Ta siiqo ishato, si7ite. Ammanon dure gidana melanne bana siiqeyssatas immana gida salo kawotethaa laattana mela ha sa7an de7iya manqota Xoossay dooribeenneyye?
6 But you have dishonored the poor person. Do not the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?
Shin hintte manqota toochcheeta. Hinttena un77etheyssati dureta gidokkonaayye? Hinttena daynna sinthi goochcheyssati entta gidokkonaayye?
7 Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?
Hintte xeegettida lo77o Godaa sunthaa cayeyssati entta gidokkonaayye?
8 However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You are to love your neighbor as yourself," you do well.
Shin Geeshsha Maxaafan, “Ase ubbaa nena ne doseyssada dosa” geetettidi xaafettida Xoossaa kawotethaa higgiya hintte polikko lo77o ootheeta.
9 But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
Shin hintte asa som77o xeellidi bonchchiko, nagara ootheeta qassi higgey hinttena higge menthida asada pirddana.
10 For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
Oonikka higge ubbaafe issuwa menthidi, attida ubbaa naagikko ubbaa menthidaada taybettees.
11 For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
“Laammofa” gida Goday, qassi “Wodhoppa” gis. Shin neeni laammonna aggada wodhidabaa gidikko, higgiya menthadasa.
12 So speak, and so do, as those who are to be judged by a law of freedom.
Aylletethafe kessiya higgiya sinthan pirdda ekkanaw de7iya asada odetitenne oothite.
13 For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Ase maaronna oonakka Xoossay maaronna pirddana. Shin maarotethay pirddaa xoonees.
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?
Ta ishato, hinttefe issi asi taw ammanoy de7ees gidi, ba ammanuwa ooson bessonna ixxiko iya ay maaddanee? Iya ammanoy iya ashshanaw dandda7ii?
15 And if a brother or sister is poorly clothed and may be lacking in daily food,
Leemisos issi ishay woykko issi michchiya kallotikonne enttaw miyabay dhayikko,
16 and one of you tells them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled;" and yet you did not give them the things the body needs, what good is it?
hinttefe issi asi enttako, “Saro biite! Tama kayite! Kallidi miite!” gidi, koshshiyabaa enttaw immonna ixxiko entta ay maaddii?
17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.
Hessa gisho, oosoy baynna ammanoy barkka hayqqidayssa.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.
Shin issi asi, “New ammanoy de7ees; qassi taw oosoy de7ees. Neeni ne ammanuwa ne oosuwappe shaakkada tana bessa; takka ta ammanuwa ta oosuwan nena bessana” gaana.
19 You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.
Neeni, issi Xoossay de7eyssa ammanaasa; hessi lo77o. Tuna ayyaanatikka ammanoosona; yashshan kokkorosona.
20 But do you want to know, foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?
Neno eeyaw! Ammanoy oosoppe shaakettidi maaddonnayssa eranaw koyay?
21 Wasn't Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
Nu aawa Abrahamey, ba na7aa Yisaaqa yarshsho bessaa bolla wothida wode ba oosuwan xillibeenne?
22 You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;
Iya ammanoynne iya oosoy issife oothidayssa be7ikki? Iya ammanoy iya oosuwan polettis.
23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness;" and he was called the friend of God.
Geeshsha Maxaafay, “Abrahamey Xoossaa ammanis. Xoossay hessa iyaw xillotethi oothidi taybis” gidayssi polettis. Qassi I Xoossaa dabbo geetettidi xeegettis.
24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
Asi ammano xalaalan gidonnashin, ooson xilleyssa be7aasa.
25 In like manner was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?
Hessadakka, laymiya Ra7aaba Isra7eeleppe kiitettidayssata mokkada hara ogera entta moyzida wode ba oosuwan xillabeekke?
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
Shemppoy shaakettida asatethay hayqo gideyssada, oosoy shaakettida ammanoykka hayqqidayssa.
