Genesis 38

1 It happened at that time that Judah moved away from his brothers and stayed with an Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

E aconteceu naquele tempo, que Judá desceu da presença de seus irmãos, e foi-se a um homem adulamita, que se chamava Hira.

2 There Judah saw the daughter of a Canaanite whose name was Shua. And he married her and slept with her.

E viu ali Judá a filha de um homem cananeu, o qual se chamava Sua; e tomou-a, e se deitou com ela:

3 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and he named him Er.

A qual concebeu, e deu à luz um filho; e chamou seu nome Er.

4 She conceived again and gave birth to a son, and she named him Onan.

E concebeu outra vez, e deu à luz um filho, e chamou seu nome Onã.

5 Then she gave birth to another son, and named him Shelah. And he was at Kezib when she gave birth to him.

E voltou a conceber, e deu à luz um filho, e chamou seu nome Selá. E estava em Quezibe quando o deu à luz.

6 And Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.

E Judá tomou mulher para seu primogênito Er, a qual se chamava Tamar.

7 Now Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of YHWH, so God killed him.

E Er, o primogênito de Judá, foi mau aos olhos do SENHOR, e tirou-lhe o SENHOR a vida.

8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Sleep with your brother's wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."

Então Judá disse a Onã: Deita-te com mulher de teu irmão, e casa-te com ela, e suscita descendência a teu irmão.

9 But Onan knew that the offspring wouldn't be his. So it happened when he slept with his brother's wife that he released his semen on the ground, so that he would not produce offspring for his brother.

E sabendo Onã que a descendência não havia de ser sua, sucedia que quando se deitava com mulher de seu irmão derramava em terra, para não dar descendência a seu irmão.

10 And what he did was evil in the sight of God, so he killed him also.

E desagradou aos olhos do SENHOR o que fazia, e também tirou a ele a vida.

11 Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Remain a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah is grown up." For he thought, "I do not want him to die too, like his brothers." So Tamar went and lived in her father's house.

E Judá disse a Tamar sua nora: Fica-te viúva em casa de teu pai, até que cresça Selá meu filho; porque disse: Para que não aconteça que morra ele também como seus irmãos. E foi-se Tamar, e ficou em casa de seu pai.

12 After some time, Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. And Judah finished mourning, and went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

E passaram muitos dias, e morreu a filha de Sua, mulher de Judá; e Judá se consolou, e subia aos tosquiadores de suas ovelhas a Timna, ele e seu amigo Hira o adulamita.

13 And Tamar was told, saying, "Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep."

E foi dado aviso a Tamar, dizendo: Eis que teu sogro sobe a Timna a tosquiar suas ovelhas.

14 She took off her widow's clothes and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she had not been given to him as a wife.

Então tirou ela de sobre si as roupas de sua viuvez, e cobriu-se com um véu, e envolveu-se, e se pôs à porta das águas que estão junto ao caminho de Timna; porque via que havia crescido Selá, e ela não era dada a ele por mulher.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought that she was a prostitute because she had covered her face.

E viu-a Judá, e teve-a por prostituta, porque havia ela coberto seu rosto.

16 He went over to her by the road and said, "Please come, let me sleep with you," for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, "What will you give me for sleeping with you?"

E desviou-se do caminho até ela, e disse-lhe: Eia, pois, agora deitarei contigo; porque não sabia que era sua nora; e ela disse: Que me darás, se deitares comigo?

17 He said, "I will send you a young goat from the flock." She said, "Will you give me something as a guarantee until you send it?"

Ele respondeu: Eu te enviarei do gado um cabrito das cabras. E ela disse: Terás de me dar penhor até que o envies.

18 He said, "What kind of guarantee should I give you?" She replied, "Your signet and your cord and your staff that is in your hand." So he gave them to her, and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.

Então ele disse: Que penhor te darei? Ela respondeu: Teu anel, e teu manto, e teu bordão que tens em tua mão. E ele lhe deu, e se deitou com ela, a qual concebeu dele.

19 And she got up and left, and took off her veil, and put on her widow's clothing.

E levantou-se, e foi-se: e tirou o véu de sobre si, e vestiu-se das roupas de sua viuvez.

20 Judah sent the young goat by his friend, the Adullamite, to receive the guarantee back from the woman's hand, but he did not find her.

E Judá enviou o cabrito das cabras por meio de seu amigo o adulamita, para que tomasse o penhor da mão da mulher; mas não a achou.

21 Then he asked the men of the place, saying, "Where is the prostitute that was at Enaim by the road?" They said, "There has been no prostitute here."

E perguntou aos homens daquele lugar, dizendo: Onde está a prostituta das águas junto ao caminho? E eles lhe disseram: Não esteve aqui prostituta.

22 He returned to Judah, and said, "I haven't found her; and also the men of the place said, 'There has been no prostitute here.'"

Então ele se voltou a Judá, e disse: Não a achei; e também os homens do lugar disseram: Aqui não esteve prostituta.

23 Judah said, "Let her keep the things, lest we be publicly shamed. Look, I sent this young goat, but you did not find her."

E Judá disse: Tome ela dessas coisas para si, para que não sejamos menosprezados: eis que eu enviei este cabrito, e tu não a achaste.

24 Now it happened about three months later that Judah was told, saying, "Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has turned to prostitution, and now, look, she is pregnant by prostitution." Judah said, "Bring her out, and let her be burned."

E aconteceu que ao fim de uns três meses foi dado aviso a Judá, dizendo: Tamar tua nora cometeu imoralidade sexual, e além disso está grávida das promiscuidades. E Judá disse: Tirai-a, e seja queimada.

25 When she was brought out, she sent word to her father-in-law, saying, "By the man who owns these I am pregnant." She also said, "Please discern whose these are—the signet, and the cord, and the staff."

E ela quando a tiravam, enviou a dizer a seu sogro: Do homem a quem pertence estas coisas, estou grávida: e disse mais: Olha agora a quem pertence estas coisas, o anel, e o manto, e o bordão.

26 Then Judah recognized them, and said, "She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah." He did not sleep with her again.

Então Judá os reconheceu, e disse: Mais justa é que eu, porquanto não a dei a Selá meu filho. E nunca mais a conheceu.

27 It happened when it was time for her to give birth, that look, there were twins in her womb.

E aconteceu que ao tempo de dar à luz, eis que havia dois em seu ventre.

28 As she was in labor, one put out a hand, and the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his hand, saying, "This one came out first."

E sucedeu, quando dava à luz, que tirou a mão um, e a parteira tomou e amarrou à sua mão um fio de escarlate, dizendo: Este saiu primeiro.

29 It happened, as he drew back his hand, that look, his brother came out, and she said, "How did you break through?" So he was named Perez.

Porém foi que voltando ele a recolher a mão, eis que seu irmão saiu; e ela disse: Como fizeste sobre ti rompimento? E chamou seu nome Perez.

30 Afterward his brother came out, that had the scarlet thread on his hand, so he was named Zerah.

E depois saiu seu irmão, o que tinha em sua mão o fio de escarlate, e chamou seu nome Zerá.
