Ecclesiastes 3
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
Tudo tem o seu tempo determinado, e todo o propósito debaixo do céu tem o seu tempo:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
Há tempo de nascer, e tempo de morrer: tempo de plantar, e tempo de arrancar o que se plantou:
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
Tempo de matar, e tempo de curar: tempo de derribar, e tempo de edificar:
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Tempo de chorar, e tempo de rir: tempo de prantear, e tempo de saltar:
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
Tempo de espalhar pedras, e tempo de ajuntar pedras: tempo de abraçar, e tempo de afastar-se de abraçar:
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
Tempo de buscar, e tempo de perder: tempo de guardar, e tempo de deitar fora:
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
Tempo de rasgar, e tempo de coser: tempo de calar, e tempo de falar:
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
Tempo de amar, e tempo de aborrecer: tempo de guerra, e tempo de paz.
9 What profit has he who works in that in which he labors?
Que vantagem tem o trabalhador daquilo em que trabalha?
10 I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
Tenho visto o trabalho que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para com ele os afligir.
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can't find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.
Tudo fez formoso em seu tempo: também pôs o século no coração deles, sem que o homem possa descobrir a obra que Deus fez desde o princípio até ao fim.
12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live.
Já tenho advertido que não há coisa melhor para eles do que alegrar-se e fazer bem na sua vida;
13 Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.
Como também que todo o homem coma e beba, e goze do bem de todo o seu trabalho: isto é um dom de Deus.
14 I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him.
Sei eu que tudo quanto Deus faz isso durará eternamente: nada se lhe deve acrescentar, e nada dele se deve diminuir; e isto faz Deus para que haja temor diante dele.
15 That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago: and God seeks again that which is passed away.
O que houve de antes ainda o há agora: e o que há de ser, já foi; e Deus pede conta do que passou.
16 Moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
Vi mais debaixo do sol, no lugar do juízo, que havia ali impiedade, e no lugar da justiça que ali havia impiedade.
17 I said in my heart, "God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."
Eu disse no meu coração: Deus julgará o justo e o ímpio; porque ali será o tempo para julgar de todo o intento e sobre toda a obra.
18 I said in my heart, "As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.
Disse eu no meu coração acerca do estado dos filhos dos homens, que Deus lhes declararia; e eles o veriam, que eles são como as bestas em si mesmos.
19 For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity.
Porque o que sucede aos filhos dos homens, isso mesmo também sucede às bestas, e o mesmo sucede a eles ambos: como morre um, assim morre o outro; e todos tem o mesmo fôlego, e a vantagem dos homens sobre as bestas não é nenhuma, porque todos são vaidade.
20 All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
Todos vão para um lugar: todos foram feitos do pó, e todos voltarão ao pó
21 Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?"
Quem adverte que o fôlego dos filhos dos homens sobe para cima, e que o fôlego das bestas desce para baixo da terra?
22 Therefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who can bring him to see what will be after him?
Assim que tenho visto que não há coisa melhor do que alegrar-se o homem nas suas obras, porque essa é a sua porção; porque quem o levará a ver o que será depois dele
