Ecclesiastes 2
1 I said in my heart, "Come now, I will test you with mirth: therefore enjoy pleasure;" and look, this also was vanity.
Eu disse em meu coração: “Vem agora, eu te testarei com alegria; portanto, desfruta do prazer”; e eis que isto também era vaidade.
2 I said of laughter, "It is foolishness;" and of mirth, "What does it accomplish?"
Eu disse de riso: “É loucura”; e de alegria: “O que ela realiza?”.
3 I searched in my heart how to cheer my flesh with wine, my heart yet guiding me with wisdom, and how to lay hold of folly, until I might see what it was good for the sons of men that they should do under heaven all the days of their lives.
Procurei em meu coração como alegrar minha carne com vinho, meu coração ainda me guiando com sabedoria, e como me agarrar à loucura, até ver o que era bom para os filhos dos homens que eles fizessem debaixo do céu todos os dias de suas vidas.
4 I made myself great works. I built myself houses. I planted myself vineyards.
I me fez grandes obras. Eu mesmo construí casas. Plantei vinhedos para mim mesmo.
5 I made myself gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit.
I me fiz jardins e parques, e plantei neles árvores de todos os tipos de frutas.
6 I made myself pools of water, to water from it the forest where trees were reared.
Fiz-me piscinas de água, para regar a floresta onde as árvores eram cultivadas.
7 I bought male servants and female servants, and had servants born in my house. I also had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all who were before me in Jerusalem;
Comprei servos e servas, e tive servos nascidos em minha casa. Tinha também grandes posses de rebanhos e rebanhos, sobretudo os que estavam antes de mim em Jerusalém.
8 I also gathered silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men—musical instruments, and that of all sorts.
Também coletei prata e ouro para mim, e o tesouro dos reis e das províncias. Consegui homens e mulheres cantores, e as delícias dos filhos dos homens: instrumentos musicais de todos os tipos.
9 So I was great, and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also remained with me.
Então eu era grande, e aumentei mais do que todos os que estavam antes de mim em Jerusalém. Minha sabedoria também permaneceu comigo.
10 Whatever my eyes desired, I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any joy, for my heart rejoiced because of all my labor, and this was my portion from all my labor.
O que quer que meus olhos desejassem, eu não me afastava deles. Não retive meu coração de nenhuma alegria, pois meu coração se alegrou por causa de todo o meu trabalho, e esta foi minha porção de todo o meu trabalho.
11 Then I looked at all the works that my hands had worked, and at the labor that I had labored to do; and look, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was no profit under the sun.
Então olhei para todas as obras que minhas mãos haviam trabalhado, e para o trabalho que eu havia trabalhado para fazer; e eis que tudo era vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento, e não havia lucro sob o sol.
12 I turned myself to consider wisdom, madness, and folly. For what can the man who comes after the king do? Just that which he has already done.
Eu me voltei para considerar sabedoria, loucura e loucura; pois o que pode fazer o sucessor do rei? Apenas o que já foi feito há muito tempo.
13 Then I saw that wisdom excels folly, as far as light excels darkness.
Então vi que a sabedoria excede a insensatez, na medida em que a luz excede as trevas.
14 The wise man's eyes are in his head, and the fool walks in darkness—and yet I perceived that one event happens to them all.
Os olhos do sábio estão em sua cabeça, e o tolo caminha nas trevas - e ainda assim percebi que um acontecimento acontece com todos eles.
15 Then said I in my heart, "As it happens to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then more wise?" Then said I in my heart that this also is vanity.
Então eu disse em meu coração: “Assim como acontece com o tolo, assim também acontecerá comigo; e por que eu era então mais sábio”. Então eu disse em meu coração que isso também é vaidade.
16 For of the wise man, even as of the fool, there is no memory for ever, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. Indeed, the wise man must die just like the fool.
Para o sábio, mesmo como para o tolo, não há memória para sempre, pois nos dias vindouros tudo terá sido esquecido por muito tempo. De fato, o homem sábio deve morrer como o tolo!
17 So I hated life, because the work that is worked under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a chasing after wind.
Então eu odiava a vida, porque o trabalho que é trabalhado sob o sol era doloroso para mim; pois tudo é vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento.
18 I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who comes after me.
Eu odiava todo o meu trabalho no qual eu trabalhava sob o sol, porque devo deixá-lo para o homem que vem depois de mim.
19 Who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have rule over all of my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.
Quem sabe se ele será um homem sábio ou um tolo? No entanto, ele terá domínio sobre todo o meu trabalho no qual eu trabalhei e no qual me mostrei sábio sob o sol. Isto também é vaidade.
20 Therefore I began to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labor in which I had labored under the sun.
Therefore Comecei a desesperar meu coração em relação a todo o trabalho no qual eu havia trabalhado sob o sol.
21 For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, with knowledge, and with skillfulness; yet he shall leave it for his portion to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.
Pois há um homem cujo trabalho é com sabedoria, com conhecimento e com habilidade; no entanto, ele o deixará por sua parte a um homem que não tenha trabalhado por ele. Isto também é vaidade e um grande mal.
22 For what has a man of all his labor, and of the striving of his heart, in which he labors under the sun?
Pois o que tem um homem de todo seu trabalho e do esforço de seu coração, no qual ele trabalha sob o sol?
23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail is grief; yes, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.
Pois todos os seus dias são dores, e seu trabalho é tristeza; sim, mesmo na noite, seu coração não descansa. Isto também é vaidade.
24 There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.
Não há nada melhor para um homem do que comer e beber, e fazer com que sua alma desfrute do bem em seu trabalho. Isto também eu vi, que é da mão de Deus.
25 For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, apart from him?
Para quem pode comer, ou quem pode ter prazer, mais do que eu?
26 For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.
Pois ao homem que lhe agrada, Deus dá sabedoria, conhecimento e alegria; mas ao pecador dá trabalho, para recolher e amontoar, para dar a quem lhe agrada a Deus. Isto também é vaidade e uma perseguição ao vento.
